That biker could have made the turn if he had used his front brakes and look through the turn instead of jamming his rear brakes. Fellas afraid of the front brakes?
Noobs are often terrified of the front brakes. They’ve obviously never watched racers slowing down hard on the front brakes with the rear wheel in the air. They will learn the hard way … 😵
I've been noticing that on quite a lot of bikes the horn seems to do very little to stop or even slow down the motorcycle. Is there someone here who works vehicle safety regulations that might look into that?
Good news: the horn on a motorcycle is operated solely by the thumb of the left hand while allowing unimpeded function of the brakes and clutch for downshifting.
Did smhjoker even touch the front brake? Looked like he just jammed the rear on, target fixated on the barrier and went straight to it. Loads of time and space to avoid that by looking through the curve, leaning in and just feathering the front brake.
@@charlesbynum shame indeed, it seems like a lot of US riders don't have the education/confidence to touch the front brake in a lot of these clips - is it states where most motorcycle schools are teaching how to ride a Harley/big cruiser? Hence big emphasis on the rear brake over front.
There are a lot of misconceptions. What a lot of people don't get is that the front isn't just a hammer for stopping, but also a razor blade for making adjustments. You get out of it what you put into it.
@@charlesbynumHe shouldn’t have been passing on that blind corner over double lines, regardless. That reckless action also meant he was completely off line when he should have been tipping in smoothly from the outside of the corner …
@@Earthneedsado-over177 It’s a crumple zone on the guard rail to reduce the impact when a vehicle collides with it. Not sure if it works the same for a human body.
First incident: Side of the vehicle is easily visible like the broadside of some French Manowar from 12 to 18 seconds for a total of 6 seconds. Stop the video at 21 seconds and ask yourself why everybody is sitting like ducks in the middle of the road. Car driver can't see the motorcycle behind the right-turning black van until 22 seconds at which time he was probably looking towards his right. He may have looked left at 23 seconds which is too late to do anything and he's already rolling into the road committed to the turn. Questions: Has the rider seen the car? If not, why? If he has seen it, why did he chose to ignore it (the "my road" arrogance perhaps? It's his birthright to use the road before anyone else?). Biker's speed is 40mph at the last moment which he decreases to 5 with 'panic brake'. He then has to shake off the shock and accelerate again. Do you think he would be slower or faster in the end, if he had slowed down to 20 mph when he first saw the cars and accelerated back again to 50 after passing the cars? If you said slower, how many seconds do you estimate he would have lost for the sake of being a safe rider and how much do those seconds matter in a casual ride? Analyze YOUR own riding before pissing on other road users for their mistakes. You will learn nothing and will have many more incidents in the future otherwise, any of which may be your last. You are warned.
I'm the rider from the first clip. I was going back home from work so I had no need to rush, you can see my speed when the silver SUV comes into my FOV is actually 33 mph at 22 secs (speed limit in that road is 35mph which then decreases to 25mph in a construction site ahead, you can see the sign at the 19 sec mark). I did not notice the silver SUV since I had the black and white SUVs to my right. which took most of my attention since I identified would be the possible hazards at that time. The "sitting duck in the middle of the road" had the right of way since the silver SUV had a stop sign. I knew that was an entrance to a mall so I wrongly assumed that any car waiting to turn left into the road would give way to the car in the middle lane, plus I also wrongly assumed the black SUV would keep on going straight as I did not notice his turn and brake signals until too late, which would have prevented the silver SUV from turning. Overall, I'm glad this did not turn into an accident and I did whatever I could in the moment to prevent an injury. Yes I did get pissed off but I pulled over, shook it off and then rode home safely. Could I have anticipated this situation? Of course, this was my first close call in my 3 months of riding and I'm happy I learned a valuable lesson without getting injured.
