      Nata Zara. Hi I use baby oil with colored pencils to blend out the color.

      Hi,can you maybe help me?once I used baby oil,and another time I used a solvent,what I did notice was ,that they went through the paper and I saw it on the back of the paper?what am I doing wrong? I use Strathmore Bristol,smooth surface....

    • @Allmystuff100
      @Allmystuff100 6 років тому +18

      Hi Gina, I use Strathmore as well. I would recommend mixed media or a heavier weight paper though. I use small amounts of baby oil on a q-tip so as not to we the paper so to speak and just wipe softly. I hope this answer helped and thanks Kristy for allowing me to answer Gina's question.

    • @lir3379
      @lir3379 4 роки тому +3

      Yes! As a watercolor artist - a lot of us prefer certain brands of "Blue Tack" type stuff. We also use Mr. Clean magic erasers for different applications.

      Really! When I was younger I used to always break up my eraser by rubbing it on paper and then I get the little bits and when I mix them up they’re like kneaded erasers.

      Using another medium under the color pencil. I hate seeing the white under the color. Sometimes even burnishing doesn't get rid of all of it, & if I use too much solvent, it winds up just lifting & moving the color around, which is frustrating.

    Thank you so much for this video! I rarely comment on UA-cam but I had to thank you for those videos, as I personally only watched two so far and I have already learned so much! I think the whiskers hack, and overall the knife hack are my favourites. I use pencils for my realistic portraits so all of those hacks will definitely come in handy. I always had a difficulty drawing those little stray hairs that make the whole drawing far more realistic so I'll try them out. I'm definitely subscribed and can't wait to see more of your videos 😊

    Really informative list, thank you , Kirsty. I will begin using some of them immediately. One recommendation I have is to SKETCH with a color pencil instead of a graphite pencil to avoid dark pencil lines altogether

    • @cianmoriarty7345

    Yes Kris, please make a Part 2 of this hack vid. My favorite hack was how to hold your pencil towards the end; basic but so noteworthy. I love your tip 12. I work in acrylics a lot and I buy large containers of the 5 basic colors in the 2 color wheels along with black, white, and pearl medium( for silver, gold, etc.). The only colors I can't make with these are neons/day glow (although my cyan/yellow green and magenta/yellow orange can be pretty obnoxiously bright) Pencils are pretty much the same. I really do encourage people to use both the standard red/blue/yellow color wheel AND the printers color wheel of cyan, magenta, yellow.(not necessarily in the same work) it's always fun for me to watch students play around and "oh and awe" at what they come up with.

    Great Vids, so great how you are clean and concise in your explanations. Fav Hack was using Thinner to blend the texture out... going to give that a try for sure!
