When he said, 'Rat now (aka, Right now)' I knew I had to subscribe. This brother is the genuine article. Much respect to my home state and its people who know struggle and survival. And I agree, the only thing worse than an improperly seasoned dressing is one that has too much sage in it. Respect.

My BigMamma was from Texas she used to add broth made up of Gizzards,Turkey neck plus fresh aromatics thyme, sage leaves and rosemary to the dressing stock and sauté the celery, onion, garlic, and bell pepper. She added ground sage and Poultry Seasoning at the end to taste before adding the eggs. I felt like crying when I saw this video. Plus the cabbage, chicken and mac. She was a cook and would also say you can always add, but can't take out -just like you. She made an okra + shrimp succotash over rice that was delicious! Thanks for reminding me of my Southern roots. Here in California nobody hardly cooks like this. Stores don't even sell salt pork or ham hocks anymore.

I'm Mississippi born and raised. Our Mom made her cornbread from scratch and that chicken and Dressing was so good. Well everything was good, and would make you want another helping. I learned how to cook everything she cooked. I'm the youngest, and I was always in the kitchen with our Mom watching her do everything. I can cook everything just like she did, but it just ain't hers even though everything I cook tastes just like she cooked it.

It's not hard to get. That's not dressing, as you say, nor cornbread dressing,as he says: Dressing and stuffing are the same thing; if the mixture is COOKED INSIDE OF TURKEY: IT IS STUFFING; COOKED OUTSIDE: IT IS DRESSING. Another thing, all those stupid eggs or milk in the mixture, makes it something TOTALLY DIFFERENT: English Pudding.

Looks good. As a Mississippian who lives in northeast MS I knew I had to watch & subscribe. Both sides of my family have lived here for generations. I do make homemade cornbread like my grandma taught me. It’s cornmeal, milk, 2 eggs, and butter blended into the mix. Then I grease a cast iron with butter & cook. My husband & some of our 5 kids are picky so that’s all I put in it. I make my dressing in a crockpot. It’s moist & easy. I boil my chicken & make my own broth as well. Then I shred 2 or 3 breasts to put in it. Crumble the cornbread, because of the picky ones I use 1 can cream of celery & 1 can cream of chicken, 2 eggs, 2 teaspoonfuls to 2 tablespoonfuls of sage, minced onion, garlic, salt & pepper, about 16 to 20ozs of the chicken broth, then mix well & cover with pats of butter. You can cook it on high for 2 hours or low for 4. I’m sure it’s not as good as yours but it suits my picky eaters & my husbands side always asks I bring it. I can’t wait to watch your other videos! Love our southern food! And I’ll try just about anything at least once. I love you used cranberry sauce instead of giblet gravy. That’s how I like it! As a southerner I must say we don’t eat stuffing. My family that has passed on would come back to haunt me if we did! In the south it’s always dressin!

Mr. Charles, you are the first person I have come across that makes cornbread dressing similar to the way my Mom makes it. She mixes in chicken instead of turkey and it is awesome too. We (our family and friends) love it. The dressing, with the cranberry sauce is a meal all by itself. Yummy, yes indeed! Thanks for sharing your version of the Mississippi cornbread dressing with us. Much appreciated sir. I am from Mississippi, born and raised…though I moved away years ago. Love seeing MS home cooking or recipes done right and shared with the world. Again, thanks for sharing.

This not just Mississippi cornbread dressing but Alabama too! You’re making it just like my mama did right down to adding hot grease to cornbread! That’s the way it’s done!

It looks really good. I like the way you did the vegetables. Did you use solid fat in the dressing, such as Crisco? I am going to try it your way. I use Sage.. but my dominant taste is poultry seasoning. I always use dried white bread, as well. I am going to save this. Thanks

Mississippi born and raised, Georgia educated and California now living💯. I proud myself on winning an award for making the best dressing, crackling bread and red velvet cake as taught by my late maternal grandmother, who raised me. But let me tell y’all something, I experimented with seafood dressing and again, it became a staple with my family, friends and classmates. I haven’t cooked in 3 years since moving from Atlanta to Los Angeles. However, I can’t wait to return to the kitchen once my homelessness is over🙏🏿. I missed cooking so much as well as Mississippi, but I ain’t going back not even in death💯.

Wow. You are bringing back so many precious memories. My mom made her cornbread with hot water. You couldn't tell the difference. She even added the hot grease. I liked how you added the veggies to the batter. To me the dressing would be more flavorful this way than just adding it as you mix the dressing. It looks so good. Well worth a try.

Mr. Charles I’m going to try this recipe soon! I love that you add the veggies to the broth and cook instead of sautéed. Seems easier and like one less step that will still make good dressing.
