Wash mine the first time with cold water and a few dashes of baking soda to kill germs and remove any pesticides even though I get organic you just never know. I add a dash of sea salt to kill any hidden bugs then agitate and let soak for 10 minutes. I then rinse 2 more times with just cold water. No grit, or bugs over here! Your collards look great!
I have always washed and cleaned my greens before cutting them so that I can see anything that's on the leaf and pick off any bugs if there happens to be any on there. I wash with cold water, sea salt and baking soda. Going through each leaf front and back; rubbing, feeling, and looking for anything that may need picking off. I do this at least three times or more depending on how dirty they are. For me, it's easier to see and feel with the bigger leaf versus them being cut up. But baby I know the flavor of your greens was amazing! Thank you for sharing. Christ blessings to you!
Thank you for showing how to make flavorful greens with smoked turkey parts ( so much healthier than ham hocks). I will definitely use your recipe for my next pot of greens!!!❤
When I was a kid, i never ate greens of any kind because my mom and granny put sugar in them. Sugar in greens is the most gosh-awful nasty mess you can put in your mouth. I like them with the smoked turkey but I like ham better, and I generally use chicken or vegetable stock. Good stuff!
That's exactly how i cook mine. One difference is no sugar, lots of onions, and last washing use a pinch of baking soda. I could taste those greens all the way to Michigan 😂❤❤
Yes! I love all greens. I cook mine the same way. I use the cajun smoked meats with red pepper flakes already on them found in stores. I just cooked turnips/mustard mixed over the weekend. Call somebody. ☎️😂
Hi !!! Chef Charles Happy Tuesday. I put salt , vinegar, baking soda to kill the bugs , I let it soak for 2 hours. Then I washed them about 5 times to make sure they are clean. I also like to use smoke turkey . I don't eat pork . I use low salt chicken broth , beef broth . Inlike swasons too . Your greens looks delicious. Thsnk you for sharing. I can't waite until you do another dessert. I am new to your channel. You do great work . God bless have a beautiful day . 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚👍👍👍🙌🙏🙌🙏
🎉🎉😢😢 Mr. Charles, you are making me think of great aunt & grandma cooking. Your style is ro reminiscing of there's and why I saw this i was taking back to my childhood. Thanks a bunch. I can only imagine what you are going to do for Thanksgiving and Xmas.
I think it’s a southern thing. I’m a southern chef, I wasn’t taught that in culinary school. I was taught that from my mama , grandmama, and my aunt. You’re not adding sugar to make them sweet, you’re only adding a little sugar to cut down the bitterness from collard greens. Put in about a half of tablespoon full. 😋
Try keeping the stems lots of nutrients in them, but take about 6,7 of them put together with a tight rubber band cook with both, take out when greens are done your vitamins are in the broth. Thank you 🙏🏾🙏🏾

My first year cooking collards appreciate your tips
@@Tuber3748 I also add a pinch of baking soda to my Kale as well to keep the color a rich green. Enjoy your Thanksgiving 🙂
@ It helps tenderize the greens also because it makes the water so soft -Happy Thanksgiving!
My Goodness! Mr Charles you are a treasure and man of many food talents.

Mr.Charles we wash our greens just like you showed, thank you for the recipe ❤
Some people don’t use sugar… My relatives always put the sugar in. The flavor is off if you don’t. I’ll be making these for Thanksgiving..
Sugar is totally not necessary. You're just used to it being there. Always season to your personal taste.❤
Absolutely not! No sugar needed in greens! No need to use sugar! Sugar has its place, definitely in those 😂sweet potato pies😂😂😂
