This... is... a SPECTACULAR cover! I hope everybody realizes how hard this song is to play. Lead vocal is A+. He can even hit that note at the end and even Andrew Gold wouldn't do that live, not even when he was young. The transitions are tight, the tempo is rock-steady and it doesn't run away. The guitar solo is really good and it's no easy section to cover. The whole band plays with restraint and discipline while at the same time playing with energy. Very impressive.
Changing 1951 to 1961 at the beginning but NOT changing 1969 to 1979 at 3:05 drastically changes the song. The original had the boy leaving home at 18, which is not strange, even if not returning is. By changing it to the boy running away at 8 years old... dang. That's dark.
