You might just gotta do it the harder way, gel in smaller sections and lay them one at a time. That’s how I used to do it but it’s too much manipulation for my poor strands 😭

Have tried tying it with a silk/ satin scarf for a few hours ? I get the slickest hair when I do that. I literally can omit gel and with only leave in, water and the scarf, my hair is slick. I do that because I hate gel lol. But word of caution, if you need your style to last the whole day you’ll definitely need the gel 😬.
