- The time has finally come for Yooka Laylee! Did Playtonic breathe new life into an all-but-dead genre, or is this another Kickstarter tragedy? (I'm not going to suggest that there can be anything in between, because this is way more clickbaity.)

I can finally hear about this game from a guy I trust. Or a puppet. Look, we're all people here.
Did you just assume his species?
*TRIGGERED*
HMM Did you just assume that joke was funny?
Gravity Queen you used the did you just assume joke to make fun of someone who used the did you just assume joke
The James guy
Except for Arlo, he's a puppet still
yeah, this game feels like it was made so Playtonics can go "hey look we can still make Banjo & Kazooie", I'm more interested in the sequel which will hopefully be the game where they address most of the issues & make a solid game
I honestly want a sequel, there's so much room for improvement and it's pretty disappointing that it wasn't the great Banjo Kazooie revival we all wanted
it's like star wars VII
At least Yooka-Laylee as a whole is solid, sure it does have issues but hey no game is perfect and free from bug's & glitches as those happen all the time, besides this game ISNT like the utter disaster that Mighty No.9 was (never played that game and i NEVER will cause of how awful it is), a sequel will help Yooka-Laylee since it will give a chance to fix issues the 1st game had and frankly i do give Yooka-Laylee at least a 6.5/10 in my honest opinion
I watched this review before I found the game at a nearby Cex store (A place that sells second hand video games). I have never played any of the Banjo games and had no nostalgic going in. Despite me agreeing that sometimes the camera can go wonky, I fell in love with this game at Shipwreck Creek. The game has one of my favourite video game soundtracks, fantastic writing and collecting pagies is just fun. I didn't like all the bosses but I loved Capital B for the engagement and Rampo from his personality. Heck, Capital B is probably one of my favourite video game villains now.
Using the scale in this video I'd give Yooka-Laylee a 6/7.
Do nondescript blue anthropomorphs have gizzards? Why not!
you are quickly becoming one of my favorite tubers! keep it up Arlo!
So many Arlo videos coming out! Now to keep up this frequency foreeeeveeer!
bear and bird action 0:52
thank you arlo I can never unsee that
I just want to say that I LOVE that a puppet is doing these reviews. It's like listening to an adult Grover.
I think Arlo is the first reviewer I've seen who has addressed the issues with the game's combat. The lack of variety for both enemies and combat moves was a real downer for me, since Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64, and *especially* Banjo-Tooie had a ton of different attack moves.
Thanks for the review Arlo! I was hoping to get the game for the Switch, but I wasn't sure about it. I'm still not really, but this will help me decide!
I'm a Kickstarter backer for the game, and I haven't started it yet. Simply been too busy with too many other things to take up my free time. Waiting even longer to start the game is going to be well-rewarded, however, since Playtonic is going to update the game to fix a few of the flaws (such as camera issues), so when I DO get around to playing it, it'll be more fun the whole way through. :)
I still can't wait to play it. Banjo -Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie were two of my favorite games on the N64. I still go back and replay them at least once a year. I just hope MARIO doesn't hold a monopoly on the 3D platform genre, There's a bevy of characters I want to see in games like these including Donkey Kong( make it better than DK 64) Kirby(give the little guy a 3D game already!) and I don't know, bring back Spyro, Jak & Daxter, and Sly Cooper too.
I haven't played Yooka-Laylee yet, but I hope I'll end up on the side of the internet that enjoys it. Having watched a friend of mine replay Conker's Bad Fur Day recently however, I think we gamers are spoiled now days, those early 3d games were rough to control.
I can say that i feel this is the most accurate and fair review iveseen for this game. Its not perfect and doesnt appeal to everyone, but its not meant to.
It was kickstarted with banjo fans in mind so its unfair to dock points for being "outdated" because that was the point.
Altho calling the collectathon outdated is ignorant as well because there are genres we all though dead not too long ago that have accrued a decent fanbase.
I loved it. I was sad after 100% because that ment I was done :(
I just wanted a nostaliga trip though, so lack of innovation never bothered me. Never had any issues with camera/controls either, so for me this game was golden. I just hope they make a sequel.
omg man this has to be the best review i have seen. i love the puppet it's so awesome!
5:50
I adore Banjo Kazooie and Super Mario 64...
You're showing Banjo-Tooie, the lesser work of the two. The first one's objectives were quite engaging and the controls were tight as fuck.
Wait Yooka is a dude?! I was sure he was a girl
and laylee is a girl and looks like a dude
I think Arlo said it best it's not the greatest game or the one we were all hoping for but it's still a fun game. If they do decide to make a sequel they will probably listen to the feedback everyone has given and fix up more or less everything. What people forget is that this not Rare anymore so they may not have the man power and resources yet to make that AAA game we were expecting but as long as you keep supporting them that's only going to help them grow as a company and make a better quality game
Im so happy that I live in a time where Arlo exists
Is this game still supposed to come out for the Switch?
nate daowgg Ye
Coming out this Thursday. I hope the wait is worth it. ✊🏻
Can't wait till the sequel. It'll be a missed opportunity if PlayTonic doesn't name the sequel Tooka-Laylee.

*BUT WHAT ABOUT JONTRON??!!!?!?!!???*
no one cares.
JEEVES we don't give a fuck about jon just game silly JEEVES
***** i don't think they ever specified whether or not they agree with him
***** I see it more as they wanted to sever any political ties whatsoever.
+The Vengeful Engineer It really doesn't matter if it was racist or not. Jon was spouting views that caused a pretty big controversy. While I doubt it would've fallen back on them. I can certainly understand their reasoning. Was there ever any confirmation that the neogaf threads and playtonic's decision were related?
This is so much like banjo kazooie that it makes you wonder why this wasn't a banjo kazooie game
The old-school RareWare games were a mostly positive mixed bag for me. I still break out Donkey Kong 64 every once in a while -- I think switching between 5 different characters was a great way to mix it up and get the most out of the limited level space for the time. Banjo-Kazooie though... was a little more meh. Diddy Kong Racing is where it's at!
Now we just wait for A Hat In Time for the GameCube style of 3D platformers to come back.
you should make your patreon money shown on the page. Seeing a tip jar half full makes people more likely to donate, yah know
I agree with this review. Granted I'm only on world two, but I see what he's taking about. It's a fun game that tries too hard to BE Banjo. Rather than improve it. I recently played through Banjo and it holds up. It actually does a better job in most things then Yooka. Yooka is still fun though.
I really enjoyed this game. It was basically the 3D platformer I've been waiting for a long time. But I do think there's a lot to improve and I don't particularly feel like playing it again after completing it 100%. We'll see if playtonic will ever make a sequel, people's opinions on this game are very mixed and it seems to be mostly on the negative side.
0:52 needs to become a game! XD
"These old platformers did not age well"
You lost me there. Are you still talking about camera issues?
I just replayed Banjo Kazooie recently, it's still amazing.
The unrefinement I totally agree with tho. There's a lot of small and a few big things that are pretty bad in Yooka-Laylee.
I'm going to wait a few weeks or maybe months to buy it, maybe the technical problems will be fixed and I'll only have to deal with the bad design ones
I disagree with a lot of the things you said in this video. I am about halfway through the second world, and I am enjoying this game a lot more than Banjo. I had had no glitches, no camera control issues (or control issues for that matter), no frame drops, and have found exploring the world's to be pretty fun. I still enjoy your content though, and can see where you're coming from. Keep up the good work!
Finally got it for switch in the eshop sale. Enjoying it 😁
Hey, how was it?
I still need to finish this game. It's a ton of fun, and while it may have a ton of flaws, I think it's worth it. I'm still on the third world.
Hey Arlo, how did you feel about the mine cart segments in Tropical Freeze? And how do you feel the ones in Yooka stack up to them?
They were difficult but they controlled well and always felt fair. They were also masterfully designed, whereas the ones in Yooka Laylee just felt like fiddly little obstacle courses.
I DON'T KNOW WHY PEOPLE SAY THIS GAME IS BAD IT'S ACTUALLY PRETTY GOOD
Like, trust me, it'll NEVER come close to Banjo-Kazooie in my opinion, but it's still a good game! Comparing Yooka-Laylee to Banjo-Kazooie is like comparing vanilla to chocolate. Both good, but one is CLEARLY better. Thing is, you ca't just order the same ice cream flavor every time. Sure, it's your favorite, but you can't get your favorite thing over and over. My favorite type of game is platformers, but i'm pretty sure that i've played (individually):
-RPG's
-Puzzle games
-Racing games
-Simulators
-Action-RPG's
More than platformers. Platformers are my favorite, but i can't keep playing those. Same thing goes with Yooka-Laylee and Banjo-Kazooie. Banjo-Kazooie is better, but i've played that game quite a lot of times and playing Yooka-Laylee is a nice change of pace. Maybe using chocolate and vanilla wasn't the proper way to describe it, but rather chocolate vs cocoa. They LOOK the same, but they're quite different, and you don't want to constantly have chocolate over and over, mix it up with some cocoa. However, some people complain about the "cocoa" because it's not chocolate. Well, guess what? OF COURSE IT'S NOT CHOCOLATE!!! IT'S COCOA!!! JUDGE THE COCOA BASED ON THE COCOA, NOT THE CHOCOLATE!!! If you don't like cocoa because it tastes bad for you, then alright, that's fine! But if you're gonna say you don't like the cocoa because it's to different from chocolate, then why'd you get cocoa in the first place? Judge the cocoa on it's own merits. Saying Yooka-Laylee is bad because it's to different from Banjo-Kazooie, or that it's not as good, then fine. Hey, you're the one who wasted your money. If you're saying Yooka-Laylee's a bad spiritual successor, then that's fine. With that kind of topic, of course you need to see that Yooka-Laylee is better/worse than Banjo-Kazooie. I've seen so many videos about reviews for Yooka-Laylee with negative opinions. I click it, and the first clip i see is Banjo-Kazooie footage. I've found 2 videos i like for Yooka-Laylee reviews, namely this one and another that says why Yooka-Laylee is a bad spiritual successor.
this game was so odd to me because i usually agree with the majority of people when it comes to games but i absolutely loved yooka-laylee. the even stranger thing is that i pretty much get most of the issues people agree upon when it comes to this game, yet i still enjoyed it so much that i wasn't really even bothered. i suppose it might be nostalgia bias but i do recognize that it's flawed, so it's a very conflicting thing for me.
regardless of what the review said I'm still gonna play it it just looks so good
I'm on he fence about getting the game as is, but once it's out on switch I might actually grab it.
Great review. I think it's an average game and has a few design flaws, but I did like most of the characters. Hope they really improve the sequel and devlop it on Unreal Engine 4. Now that'd look even greater
That ending cracked me up and had me laughing out loud.
Arlo's final speech was way less annoying that all of the voices in the game.
Arlos may have gizzards... lemme write that down in my notes.
Confirmed: Arlo is a fan of King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard.
I'm hyped! I don't care what others say
I haven't played this game yet but I intend to soon.
For every upload on this channel, the let's play channel, his 3rd channel for fan mail unboxings, and every collaboration video Arlo has done on other channels, this video is the 200th upload. Check out the playlist with all 200 videos here: ua-cam.com/play/PLHbXlI8xcHhlWaGjZfLobHmV1JVtGSRXQ.html I dare you to watch them all.
arlo considers me his "wonderful" friend?
HALLELUJAH I FINALLY HAVE A FRIEND
oh friend
Alex Diaz no...not yours...there can only be one!!!😂
He was talking to ME!
MrGoblin1000 No, it was ME!
Alex Diaz Nah it was me
I still really hope the sequel is called "Twooka Laylee"
Followed up by Yooka-Laythree, if there's any justice in the universe.
And Yoo-Quatro-Lee after that.
Twooka-Laylee and Yooka-Laythree
THIS.
I really hope it doesn't get a sequel, Playtonic honestly needs to KILL this thing...
Okay but Trouser Snake.
* slow clap *
That's honestly the character that stuck out the most to me in the whole game besides Yooka and Laylee lol
Like, the guys from Playtonic still have that skill with designing adorable, memorable characters but for some reason there were only a handful that I'll probably remember from Yooka Laylee.
Dev'n Around Trowzer?
"Yes."
But you're a snake.
"Yes!"
Trowzer Snake?
"YES!"
... Right.
Ned Flanders Thank you Ned. You're the best neighbor a guy could ask for.
The rumor come out, does snake trouser is means penis?
Arlo feels like one of the most reliable reviewers out there, plus his commentary is funny. The only thing that slightly bothers me about his channels is that his Let's Play episodes are far and few due to him not having time. Also, are you planning on reviewing Arms when it releases?
Lastly, I watched your Mario Odyssey video again and I noticed Mario looks at interesting things near him, like traffic lights, people, and all kinds of stuff. It makes him seem so much more alive from that one small detail.
He has a lets play channel, although he does only rarely upload videos there unfortunately.
I think in one video he said he was completely uninterested in Arms. Who knows though.
Shigeru Miyamoto has had Link do that, for years. It only makes sense, for him to make Mario, puppeteer the same way.
badreality2 Yeah. Still awesome though.
Reviews are personal.
Reliable ?
Take it this way: Playtonic(coughRAREcough) hasn't been making games like this in a good while, this is a warm up game. Future games will take what players said about Yooka Laylee, so I'm sure Twooka Laylee will have all those edges smoothed out. Playing this game got me excited for the future. I thought it was fun, when it wasn't making me do infuriating boss fights or platforming, and the DK64/Banjo/BotW puzzles had me squirming with nostalgia. The characters were memorable, accept for the tonic fridge lady who I can't remember her name because I only used one tonic, and all around the game delivered. The camera and boring combat were bad, and it for sure makes the game a lesser experience. But again. To reiterate, the last time Rar.. er.. Playtonic made a game was Nuts and Bolts(or was it? Please correct me if I'm wrong), so it will take a bit for them to become the masters of collectathons once more.
This is the most honest review Ive seen on this game with it not being too negative like everyone else or somewhat influenced by nostalgia and overly positive like ToVG/Jirard. Nice stuff Arlo Im probably going to use your reviews for reccomendations for games since I trust you'll review them like this every time.
YoshiGator just because it's negative doesn't mean it's not honest.
YoshiGator GameXplain had some interesting thoughts
YoshiGator you should judge games for yourself, if you ask me. I love reviews though.
Just because it's very positive or negative doesn't mean it's not honest. If I say I love Arlos's reviews because they're awesome, does that mean I'm not honest? Not at all!
SteveSwipe Issue is most that are very negative are from people pissed off at the whole thing with the publisher and the jonton stuff and they don't actually play it.
The game has been patched so well at this point that I did not experience a single glitch nor crash during my entire play-through of the game from beginning to end :D
what console?
@@maxisenberg9093 PC
Arlo! I can't believe you said that at the end! You know Metroid will be at E3. You just gotta' believe...
No no he said it so they would reveal a new Metroid. Remember kings of the left field??
One Shot You're right. I never should have doubted. (Also thanks for replying)
Is that a Parappa The Rapper reference?
Hairy MouseTurd Yes, I honestly didn't think anybody would notice. Also "Punch and Kick!" (Sorry, I couldn't resist).
I saw that too. Didn't want to point out though in case I was wrong
This seems to be the most spot-on review of Yooka Laylee. It comes from a fan of the genre and the source of inspiration (Banjo Kazooie) yet he's not blinded by the nostalgia nor giving mercy points because "flaws like these are part of the experience" apologists of the game keep saying. In the end, Yooka seems to be a middle-of-the-road game, mediocre at worst and okay at best. I've never been a huge fan of collectathons in the first place, so I'll just stick to Mario and Sonic for my 3D platformer needs.
Yet these fucking shooters are still being liked. This world is so fucking goddamn unfair! Fuck the 2010s, I wanna live in the 90s again!
I would say okay at worst, great at best, with the worst rearing its head a lot. I had fun with it anyway.
Then you can go back to moon logic point and click adventures and shooters you don't have to aim with to shoot.
DarkK~ Yall should check out cadiccarus's review on it then if you enjoy this review
This game is far from "okay" or "mediocre". The only thing in my book that bogged it down were technical issues mostly due to the team wanting to get it released somewhat on schedule after multiple delays fearing inevitable backlash from backers (which I don't necessarily agree with, but they're still working on the game and releasing patches for it as well).
"Reviewie" hahahhahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahah
Yooka Laylee is the perfect example of "You don't always know what you want". Playtonic delivered on exactly what they promised. They made a N64 era platformer with modern graphics. It's exactly what they promised, it's why people gave them over 3 million dollars, and it's what I even thought I wanted. But after playing Yooka, and apparently many others as well, it's not what I wanted... I was wrong. I wanted to love Yooka-Layless, I was very hyped, but if there's a sequel things have to be more modernized. And I'm not even mad at Playtonic, they delivered exactly what they promised...
Well said.
Many of us actually wanted this though, look at steam reviews if you don't believe me.
I really believe that most people who backed this game and regret it dont really like the genre that much.
and dunkey is a close friend of jontron, and didnt really like tooie.
Javier Gimenez but what about when jontron said ge didn’t like dunkey because he was black
Agreed. The least they can do is fix the control issues. Some people are still excusing it with nostalgic reasons. 1 year on, the camera is still kinda crap. Better, but still crap.
Im waiting on the Switch version. It must be played on a cartridge!
teehee
OctorokOverlord Gonna be download only man :(
Switch is the only console without a physical release
+muskatDR I heard they'd possibly do one. but I guess that's not full confirmation
You'll be seeing a lot of indie developers forgoing a physical release. No one wants to experience the wrath of fans because of the switch tax.
Arlo: Let’s see what they can do with a sequel
Playtonic Games: Here’s a DKC 2d platformer
But hey! At least Its good
I would be SO curious to see what your review on Yooka-Laylee and The Impossible Lair would be. I actually really like it.
7:15 I had the exact same problem. It made me so furious.
ok yooka-laylee is cool and all but SOLID SNAKE.....
u mean Trowser
Me: UA-cam is so stupid, who uploads a video at 3 in the morning?
Arlo: Oh boy, 3am!
Me: Oh boy, an Arlo video!
You do realize time zones exist, right?
Krusper Butter Yeah but Arlo doesn't!
Very good review. Valid criticisms but didn't harp on them saying it made the game unplayable. I agree with most points other than the controls, but i admit it could just be my nostalgia of awful controls. I feel that they are responsive enough that if i mess up a jump, i can still save myself with how "touchy" it is. Again, fantastic review and I look forward to your next video.
What about Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. I don't think you did a review on that game yet.
Yooka Laylee isn't perfect, there's a lot of flaws, but it is still fun and has a lot of charm.
*What do you guys think will be Playtonic's next game?*
Da Nintendude twooka-laylee
A spiritual Successor to Conker. And then Perfect Dark.. And then everything they've done. lol
Da Nintendude Skip to Perfect Dark, I bet if they made a shooter they'd have split-screen haha
Dankey Kong 128
"What do you guys think will be Playtonic's next game?"
Collaborating with Krome Studios to make Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 5... It's impossible, I know, but a man can dream...
The prime time to upload a video: 1:14 AM
in pretty sure it's 10 where Arlo lives.
Where does Arlo live?
The Spaghettinator i live in oregon i saw this at 10:20pm-ish?
The only real time is Oregon time.
Redd Knight10 for me its 7:00 AM (Netherlands)
fun fact: Yooka has two tongues
@Kefou Kefak But still fun
my new oc:
Bongo and Karate
Print that shit it sounds really promising. no joke. :)
Did you know the yooka laylee team contacted all contributors recently to tell them there will be future updates to fix things such as allowing you to skip cut-scenes, tone down the garable speech and even aslter the camera for a nicer experience.
They are aware of the problems an are working in the future to fix them; they will be aded via updates and those that can't be updated with be given a newer version of the download.
This honestly was one of the best reviews I've seen of the game. Most of them are too critical of it or are too positive just because it was a Banjo Kazooie spiritual successor. Awesome job Arlo!
I really hope Nintendo nails the camera controls for Super Mario Odyssey, same goes for the level designs. I'm really hoping they're looking very closely at both Mario 64 & Sunshine as references & are taking notes on what worked on those games & what didn't work on those games.
Can't wait for Twooka-Laylee
Then Yooka-Laythree...
Don’t you mean *Tooka Laylee?
Arlo video at midnight. Seems good.
whER THE PICK FROM
So Yooka-Laylee got the same score as Color Splash by Arlo's scale. I wonder if he actually thinks the two are equal quality games. I agree that Yooka-Laylee suffers from a bit too many problems to call it better or even equal to Banjo-Kazooie but it does a much better job at embracing the legacy of its inspiration series than Color Splash did for Paper Mario.
Xnaut314 actually, arlo gave colour splash a 2 out of 7
I think you're mistaking his Color Splash review for the Star Fox Zero review. But at least we won't need to worry about either of those horrid games haunting a VC anytime soon due their shoehorned gamepad controls.
@@Xnaut314 like many i did pass on color splash after the atrocity that was sticker star and i never got star fox zero and im glad i didnt after hearing how bad the game was....didn't really help that the Wii U wasnt that great
"And Remember, *Banjo Kazooie Jibberish*"
Yes, I'll remember to *Banjo Kazooie Jibberish* and *More Gibberish*.
Nail on the head. Yooka Laylee wasn't an abject failure nor was it a shining success. It was a good first hack at an old genre and if Playtonic stays committed I'm sure they'll get their time in the sun.
Best thing we can do is give feedback, and lots of it!
Arlo.... i need to tell you something.. i cant take it anymore i must reveal my secret!
Arlo i really want to HUG you!
Rextro Iis my favourite character of all time and needs his own game.
Arlo, great review! Love the gaming insights that are very logical and not really emotion-fueled tirades or nostalgia tripping (positively or negatively). I was definitely wondering, are you going to do a Breath of the Wild review?
Bear and bird action? Does that porn exist? We must make it!
Napalm Blaziken Yes it does sadly..
***** I'm still making it.
thank god we dont have another mighty number nine incedent
exactly cause that game can go burn in hell for all eternity with some of the other bad games like Sticker Star, Yoshi's New Island (wont lie i think this yoshi is pretty bad) and E.T.
i love the game, can't really complain about it. The only things i don't like are: crappy-laggy loading screens(although there are few, so that's good,) and the lack of different levels. Hopefully yooka laylee 2 delivers more.
i don't think there will ever be a 2.
.. Wait, 1-7? The hell kind of scale is that? Why not just 1-10?
I like a 1-5 scale myself
5=MUST GET GAME NOW!
4=Great game
3=Average
2=OK but deeply flawed and
1=KILL IT WITH FIRE AND HOLY WATER!
For me, this type of scale is simple and gets the message across. I feel that too many reviewers try to over complicate their scales to set themselves apart from the competition but in my opinion what should set reviewers apart is the logic they used to get to their score.
As a general rule, isn't it usually meant to be multiples of 5 and 10? I thought that was just an implicit thing.
I feel like using a standard 1-10 review score tends to defeat the purpose of a review. You get accustomed to looking at the number and using your own implications and justifications for that score instead of what the reviewer is actually saying about the game. I like seeing someone use an alternate scale because it forces to me to acknowledge what he said in order to grasp why the game was graded as it was, instead of seeing it as 7/10 = Average and miss able, 8/10 as a good but flawed game, etc. I have no idea why Arlo uses that grading system but I like it.
In my experiences with people who used 10 point scales, they were way too hesitant to use the bottom end of the scale and when something was bad they would say it was bad but give a 5 out of 10 so sometimes I will think "well if this game is a 5, either they played something REALLY bad or they just never give 1's or 2's.
Redpoppy: But what if the game isn't great, but not on the level of average either?
I didn't buy this game at the time because of the many mixed reviews. Most saying the same things said here. I finally bought it a few days ago because it was on sale on steam and I'm 8 hours in. So far I'm utterly blown away. In many ways a solid improvement over the Banjo and Kazooie games.
Controls felt great. My old 3d platforming skills might be kicking in because I had no issues with the platforming. I've only played the first three levels but there was nothing that hard or fiddly here.
The camara issues were what you'd expect from a 3d platformer and were nothing I couldn't fix without a quick flick of the right stick. I prefered the camara to the comparatively praised Mario Galaxy camara because it gives you plenty of control to position it how you'd like.
I also got more into the collecting and exploring side of this game than I did with many of the old rare 3d platformers. I forgot how much I love this kind of game and I really wish there were more like this. It's on track to being one of my favorite platformers and I'm left scratching my head at the reception it got.
More than a year late, so maybe you've already learned this in the meantime, but a lot of it comes down to the fact that Playtonic released a big update, the "Spit 'n' Polish" patch, that addressed a huge swath of people's complaints with the core gameplay (improved character and camera controls, tweaking the way moves worked, rebalancing the difficulty of poorly-received sections, adding signs to make Hivory Towers easy to navigate, etc.) months after the game's release - none of the benefits of which all the people who played the game at launch got to receive, and by which point the game's reputation had already solidified.
@@JustAndre92 Upon release yes that doesn't benefit anyone but today since those complaints were addressed makes them irreverent especially when the developers fixed the issues. I honestly think some of you just seek attention too much and even though YL is a flawed game, I have played far worse platformers then this one could compare. The problem isn't YL but the work culture these studios do these days and almost none play tests their games anymore. Just look at Cyber Punk 2077 and because of this work culture the executives of CD Project thought they could get away with crappy console releases and just patch it later on as a reliance. This whole release game broken then patch it later on needs to stop in the industry because this is how the Game Crash of 1983 happened with releasing broken games that were barely playable or had no quality control.
@@Capcomgirl25 You literally called someone an attention seeker for pointing out early reviewers and players didn't have have benefits of the patch but then agreed that releasing poor games and fixing them later needs to stop.
@@warehouselead Interesting I how no idea disagreeing with someone was seeking attention? The complaints don't hold up today when they fixed the issues a long time ago that was the point I was making.
enjoyed it, the average gamer has no patience right now, those "frustrating" platforming parts reminded me on the ring challenges in the old spyro games that i played when i was 10, i remember than me and my friends would spend the whole afternoon trying to get those ring challenges in spyro year of the dragon back when we were literal kids, and none of us thought of it as frustrating, it was challenging for sure, and we had to stop and breathe a couple of times but we still completed them and had a lot of fun with them, yuka lele was no different, those ring challenges weren't exactly harder than spyro's timed ring challenges, i'd say they were about the same difficulty.
honestly there's just so many better options out there for collectathons. SM64, Spyro the Dragon, Battle for the Bikini Bottom, Jack and Daxter, Super Mario Sunshine, Banjo Tooie, Last Impact, The Kedama Takeover, Star Road, Gex, and Psychonauts
What a great pun
Thanks for this fair and balanced review. Helping me decide if I should get it.
I finished this like a year ago and i i still don't know if i dislike it or not... i've just got very mixed feelings about this game.
I can't believe people are giving this game crap. Yes, it's not perfect by any means but it looks kinda fun. Why is it that those stupid ass shooters are well received. Those games are so fucking boring and generic. This shooter craze should've died like 5 years ago. It's been going on way too fucking long, just like reality TV! Honestly, they should've delayed this game for one more year and released it in August 2018, which would be exactly 20 years after Banjo-Kazooie was released. God, I hate today's gaming industry! People think their fucking games need to be M-rated and full of blood and swearing. Good God, people!
Still haven't changed, have you Blake?
I just bought this game and I'm sad it took me this long. I think I let lukewarm reviews affect my excitement for the game which sucks because I already love it from what I've played so far. I can definitely see the shortcomings that you spoke about, but even with them I'm sad I nearly missed out on playing this fun and nostalgic game in a style that I love and want to see more of. I would love for this game to get the support it needs so they can make a second one with all the improvements to make it a smoother experience. I think the game is fine for $40. I'd like to see their $60 sequel. I mean, I really want it.
6/10 not enough Jontron
Going to buy it anyways, I feel like the company will improve a lot in the future, everyone has to start somewhere
exactly i mean look at nintendo when they 1st started: they where a card company before they starting tackling the budding video game industry with the likes of arcade machines and the series of Game & Watch games to where they are now where Nintendo is a household juggernaut of a video game company
It isnt Mario Odissey 2/10
Which fucking Game were you playing ,the controls better are Banjo kazooie...btw sry for Bad words i Like your vids
the game was super janky at launch before it got some patches a couple months in.. even better supposedly on switch
