Here’s the thing Caddy. From everything you’ve said, it sounds like Impossible Lair controls closer to the original trilogy in terms of weight and feel than Retro’s games. Not to say they aren’t great games too, but they did alter a lot in terms of overall game feel. I’d say give the SNES games a shot with the way you’re talking
Indeed, there are also more people from the original snes trilogy involved in YL than the newer dkc games. You can also see it in the darker tone visual style in most of the levels just like the original DKC. I would go as far as saying that: "YL is more DKC than the new DKC games"
Super old comment, but I noticed that, too. Things he said about control being slippery and losing abilities when you lose your different Kong buddies don’t really apply to the SNES era games. I enjoyed Yooka Laylee myself, quite a bit, but I have never felt more control over a 2D platforming character than I did with Diddy Kong on the SNES.
A Stereotypical Picture Of A French Man I loved his reaction to seeing the bee proposing to the mouse. X3 I didn’t know of the video he showed of him fanboying over the bees. Now I need to find it.

As someone who also really liked the first Yooka-Laylee, I love the Impossible Lair as well. Every point you made in this video is spot on, especially the soundtrack. The Soundtrack is extraordinary, but I honestly didn't expect anything less. My absolute favorite little thing in this game is this 80's Rock track when Pagie Power is activated along with the record scratch when it's over.
