I've suffered joint pain most of my life. When I exercise I had knee pain, shoulder pain, elbow pain and even pain in my spine. These days I'm pretty much pain-free and I've learned a few things along the way.
First off, joint pain is exposed by exercise but rarely caused by it. Exercises like lunges, squats, and dips expose the issues you're dealing with on a daily basis.
Second, it pays to get a hands-on diagnosis of the pain. The internet isn't nearly as good as someone who can witness what's going on in person and give you an accurate diagnosis.
Third, most joint pain has nothing to do with the joint itself and is usually caused by an imbalance elsewhere in the body. When it is caused by the actual joint, it's usually due to damage that requires medical treatment. Both of these are also good reasons to get in-person assessment of the real issue.
My reaction after every video you upload: damn that's just the thing I'm struggling with these days. Thanks for you existence Matt (:
Many thanks, I have been researching "common exercise related injuries" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Zenevad Exercise Eaglestone - (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my partner got cool success with it.
Love how all your videos are short and get to the point
I ignored shoulder pain for over 20 years. Trough sports injuries, work labor related pain and workout pain. I am now paying for it big time. In my 50's needing shoulder reconstruction on both shoulders. Sucks. Please don't overdo it folks...you will pay for it later.
oh 00F/rip and alright man thanks for the advice
im sure you get a lot of this! but, "your advice is absolutely amazing and practical". what makes it even more special, is all of it is totally based on your experience which is the best teacher!! #fanfromIndia
For sure, although your experience is your best teacher too
My goodness your videos are amazing, wow!!! I've actually been have some problems with my wrist and my elbows. This video is a big help
Nuetral grip pull ups have cured my elbow tendonitis.
Any tips for working through unfixable pain? I am attempting to gain some mass at 20 years old, and I have scoliosis to the point it does cause pain regularly. I visit the chiropractor a once or twice a month and it helps, but working out still causes pain in all areas. Any recommended exercises or even full workouts?
I already found few of your videos regarding nutrition, protein and calorie intake. Thank you
Can we have a video about calorie and protein intake? All I got from internet is "eat a lot and lift heavy for muscle building".
gregory kaminski you re not searching very well
gregory kaminski he alredy made a vídeo about nutrition
Why carbs? What I found lately is you don't have to eat more calories to build muscle. Proteins build muscles not carbs or calories. But how much more proteins I need? And then when I get bigger how much more calories to keep my muscles (bigger muscles burn more calories).
gregory kaminski Ok if you want to bulk you need to know your daily calorie consumption (if you don't know try the MyFitnessPal app), if you know the number you just add 250-500 calories to it. If you want to have a clean diet you want to go 50% carbs, 30% fats, 20% protein. You will have to learn which carbs, fats and proteins are good and which are bad since I'm not patient enough to list all of them. You'll also have to signalise your body that you need more muscle mass, you wont get buff if you just eat lots of food no matter how healthy, you have to train just as hard.
here, check out this video I made on diet and exercise in general:

It's a preview of what's coming out in my second book later this year
I was searching the internet to learn about joint pain and this is the first video I found and I feel like it answered basically all the questions I have.
1. Try exercise and stretching. if that doesn't help then
2. See a professional that can diagnose what's going on.
~ And exercise isn't the cause/ main factor of joint pain/ depending on the circumstance it may heighten or alleviate pain though there's likely something else going on with your joints that are behind the cause. / Don't blame exercise.
surgery is a quick fix that just makes the problem worse over time.
I think it depends on the issue. Sometimes it can make the issue worse, but sometimes it makes it much better.
wow damn that was epic never blame the exercise blase your self and the exercise exposing your fault great video coch waiting for prt2
Quick question for you see if you can figure it out cause it's been taking some time. Why is there a indent on my left thigh inside above knee muscle and not on left? It causes my leg to be less strong and hurts my knee in the middle
That could just be something to do with muscle tone or how your leg is built. The pain you feel could be completely unrelated. I would get it checked out if it persists or gets worse.
Number 1 only applies to practical, natural exerciises. But there are exercises being promoted nowadays, such as the NORDIC CURL, that are completely unnatural - that is, no human ever in history had to ever perform this exercise for ANYTHING in our daily life - and are therefore dangerous to perform as they exerrt an unnatural load onto the hamstring joint (tendon). In this case, it is not only OK but NECESSARY to through the exercise away completely.
I partially agree with you, i think you should of thought this out and should of made a lengthy video. Not a 5 minute video. Thanks anyway bud
I got shoulder joint pain after I was doing party with friends and suddenly felt dislocated and freezed shoulder joint extreme pain.
hey mr red delta i just saw you actually responded to a question of mine 2 year ago sorry i didnt answer you i must of missed seeing your responce sorry . i had asked you if im fucked if i dont get surgery . and your responce was under circumstances it might be needed you correct by the way it was needed but it still went south ..well since then i had a failed meniscus repair which put me on crutches which aggravated me left non operated knee so now i have pain in the left non operated knee due too all of the asymetrical weight baring . i had the damaged parts of me meniscus removed since the repair was deemed to have failed by my surgeon ..since the removal op its been well over a year .i have coordination difficultys i dunno if this is down to the surgeon having jacked something up allthough i dont know what he possibly could have cocked up ...or probably due too a long time of being asymetrically moving on crutches post repair op and being inactive my body created some inneficient moving patterns .maybe the op floated some stuff too the surface that was there from the start ...obviously due too this experience im very sceptical of operations ...it was probably daft to even operate my right knee due to the fact my right ankle has been fucked for just as long ligament damage i presume due too the instability pain and inversion and faulty movement and lack of mobility ...its like fixing a car but only fixing one part and leaving the others out .....but i dont really reckon there is any point in risking the knife too walk around in a boot for too month and aggravate my left knee and ankle and the fun starts all over again there has to be a way out of this bullshit cycle of injury though ....
The physical therapists I went to just sent me off with a painkiller...
This assumes the pain is something an MD can help with. I have degenerative joint disease of the hands from years of data entry work, meaning my cartileIge or cushioning of the joints is all gone and used up, but since I have high blood pressure and Nsaids raise my blood pressure to imminent stroke levels I have been taken off of all pain relief pills. I wake up crying and wish I could just go ahead and die. I need to build my strength back but it is so painful on my hands, please post something that addresses what to do with this issue.
Torn ligament for 2 years now. Still just as bad as it was before after physiotherapy
YES! Trying to superimpose a partial 'fix' onto a problem that's global is not going to be all that helpful. And this is a point that people just don't grasp until its too late.
Alexander teachers should be included in the list, perhaps above most of the others.
Wtf
I'm 18, i stopped working out on 17 because of my knees pain. I don't think it's just some random pain because i can't even squat without pain anymore. Anyway, wish me good!💜
Sorry to hear that. You might enjoy looking into kneesovertoesguy's stuff. He had severe pain at a young age too from basketball training and solved it by his exercising methods.
@@randomdude71kwnd thank you so much sir I'm going to take a look at his channel
@@louayankit2888 You may find it hard to navigate through his content. Basically he says that avoiding a joint in the short run seems reasonable if it hurts but in the long run it means less blood flow to that area and therefore less nutrients which lead to an even weaker joint and more pain. One thing he teaches is walking backwards as a very low entry point for getting bloodflow to the knee. Since squatting hurts you I'd recommend you start walking backwards for five minutes in circles in your room.
May I ask how it went? Did you find something helpful.
@@randomdude71kwnd well at first trying to stretch was too hard because my muscles were kind of stiff but it's going well so far i can squat for longer than i used to do
I am really really thankful for your recommendation ❤️❤️
👍
Short but relatively good answers
I’ve had shoulder pain for over a year. I’ve seen doctors and Physios, had an ultrasound - and they didn’t diagnose it!! I’m a massage therapist and I need my shoulder for work. I exercise and work through pain and tears:(((.
See an orthopedic surgeon Sir/madam.
When you say that you can “pay for it big time later,” what are some examples of that? I’m just saying, sometimes fear is a motivator for action. A lot of older people, myself included, avoid going to the doctor. I enjoyed this. Got me thinking about all the exercises I am avoiding because of pain.
Usually, the "payment" is stiff and creaky joints and stiff muscles. the toll on the body can increase exponentially but also how it influences you energy and mobility afterward.
One more thing: If you want to use exercise for pain free, we have the book Super Joints of Pavel Tatsouline. A quick review: 1: Joint Mobility drills (there are 17 in the book) for more synovial fluid in the joints, refreshing them. And 2: Active flexibility (10 more exercises) for synovial fluid, flexibility, strength and first of all, muscle balance.
All great points. I haven't read that book yet but It's on my list now! Thanks for the rec!
Here's the link to Super Joints DVDs if anyone reading this is interested in checking it out:

Coach Wade in CC2 talks about this book in the chapter of the Trifecta i guess. And congrats for your great work Matt, i'm reading your book Fitness Independence at the moment and i'm going to be personal trainer next year as well. What do you think about natural movement? Such as Ginástica Natural, Bioginástica, the one in Budokon academy, vavah fitness and so on...
Did you have a knee operation on miniscus by chance? Any experience you could share? Thank you
Never anything that serious, just lots of tendonitis and muscle strains over the years.
My everything hurts o-o
I’m only thirteen and when I try working out the joints in my arms always hurt afterwards but my muscles aren’t tired at all. I should get it fixed so I can actually workout
It may have much more to do with technique and tension control. remember that stress in the joint means the muscles aren't doing their job to work as shock absorbers for the joints.
@@RedDeltaProject I usually just do a lot of push-ups and weight curls, so what do I have to do differently?
no, I have a bad joint.
So true thank you brethren
You're all welcome TEK!
@@RedDeltaProject ayyy my man
the volume dude. its very low
Why do my shoulders hurt when I'm doing pushup lol
You may not have enough retraction at the bottom position, try keeping your shoulders back as far as you can as you lower yourself down
Matt should i tighten My legs when i do Bodyweight Squats?
For sure, as you get into more advanced techniques you'll need all of that tension for stability and control.
what can you do to prevent low back pain with pistol squat
That might be from lack of hip strength/ mobility. Try working on opening up your hips in a deep 2/ leg squat as a warm up. Kind of like in this video:

I have a very physically demanding job - lifting boulders, digging etc - and now have tendinitis in one shoulder, gonna see physio in a couple days. my issue is finding a balance between physical activities and recovery. feeling stiff and sore is just the nature of the beast for me, this shoulder issue is wear and tear and every couple years something gives out.
Paul bee Proper stretching as well as warming your body up might do the trick for you.
I'm sorry..."lifting boulders"? What is your life?!
Thanks vin diesel
I regret skateboarding.
Why?
