These McFarlane 1:12 scale Batmobiles are essentially kids' toys. The earlier '66 Batmobile proved that and now here we are with this '89 Batmobile and the recently released Tumblers. These cars are under-scaled, inaccurate, flimsy and cheap and really just a step up from what Mattel and Hasbro might make for kids. That's why these are priced so affordably. As grown adult collectors we should know what we're buying here and not get carried away expecting anything more.
A 1/12 Batman and Batmobile for $80? You're getting the 22 inch car for $50. It's definitely not perfect, but good luck finding better for that price. Most companies will do worse for the cost.
This is one of them situations where they designed the car around the figure so that it would fit. I have a 1:18 scale die-cast knock off of the 1989 Hot Wheels version. The build quality is pretty good and it actually has a double seat with working lights and sounds. The only real issue is that the seating is to narrow to fit the 4” figure.
The huge windshield bothers me the most. One of the many things I love about the original design is how much protection the vehicle offers, the windshield is relatively small, like a visor of sorts, not the enormous panel you see on this interpretation.
If you can still get it, go look at Ramem Toys. They made a CAG (Guns & Canopy) set for both variants of the Keaton Batmobile. It will still be a one-seater, but the canopy is trimmed down with more of an angle just like the 89 should be. It also comes with two machine guns you can pop on and off along with two silver gas caps for the sides. The difference is night and day. It makes all the difference in the world. I can't recommend it enough for anyone who has either Batmobile. Canopy is very easy to replace even for someone like me who has no skills when it comes to taking shit apart.
@mr.momcollectibles I didn't realize how much bigger the stock canopy was until I swapped it out with the Ramen one. For the price, I like all the live-action Batmobiles McFarlane is pumping out. Even if that means I have to add a few things to it myself via a 3rd party or myself. I would love to hear your thoughts once you get and install the new canopy.
Yea that’s on me but with my love for 89 I’m almost willing to take with anything. At least throw some damn light on it to make me feel like I got my money worth haha

Most people care about the box art even have things in the box due to limited space. It's like me I mess with my figures but I don't have too much space for everything so I keep em in the box even if I had enough room I would still have a shelf to have em organized in a box
The canopy is terrible. I almost regretted this purchase until i got a custom made CAG set on Facebook from Ramen? Toye maybe is the name. Anyway, that corrected my main complaint. I also had jow the fins snap in leaving ugly gap lines.
My question is why couldn't the lights be yellow? Simple unnecessary stuff like that really bothers me. The canopy shape bothered me until I saw the replacement. Seats are annoying but I'd never have the top opened anyway. Overall some dumb decisions, but not bad for the price compared to abominations like the smaller Super7 cyborg. If you want smaller, the Mezco looks to be more accurate and seats two figures.
Honest review. I got this then ended up giving it to my 2 year old son, lol. I have the Hot toys versions of this and the figure and wanted him to have his own versions. He's actually taking care of it really well so far.
If you pay 80 -25 (for the figure ) that’s really a 55$ car … I don’t think is a bad deal considering the 7” scale … Todd makes affordable products … his toys are not high end …
I remember my toy biz Batmobile from 89 was a one seater and if I remember right, it was a convertible just had a little windshield. You would think 35 years later, they would step up their game a little, specially, charging those prices.
I bought the CAG from Ramen Toys to fix the canopy situation, so the car cost me $150 and still no lights...was it worth it no...but I love Tim Burtons Batman, so I bought it
I have this one with the ramen toys canopy. Makes it a lot better than the goofy one that came with it. I'm pretty sure the ramen toys people said they were planning a 2 seat mod. Totally agree that they cheaped out on a lot of it. But there's nothing else in this scale and I doubt anything else will come for a long time...unless jazzinc, and that will be 800+ haha
Yeah, I’ve got the Ramen Toys kit and I am mostly using this vehicle for the Figuarts Batman. Hoping that they do a Joker some day. Not sure why no one wants to make that version of Joker.
I think it’s great for the price. You want light up and sound and 2 seats and ext, that would drive the price much higher and some of us just like having a cool piece for under $100.
I might get slated but by 92 I think it might be a single seated car looking at certain scenes watching the car separation/ ejecting we see his legs in the middle but that doesn’t work for an 89 repaint.
If they made it a two seater it would be too big for a lot of people to display. It's also not a replica, it's a "toyetic" version of the vehicle so I don't think we should expect 100% accuracy. And to be honest $75 for a figure and a vehicle isn't really that expensive considering the figures are $25 each at this point. If I wanted an accurate version of the vehicle to display and didn't care about fitting a figure in, I would prefer a smaller scale die cast car or model kit that I could display on a desk or smaller shelf.
I agree perfectly with you. Same feeling here after I bought it and found Batman's chest logo to be painted gold instead of yellow. The Batmobile from Batman Forever is going to be much worse as the LEDs are green not blue as in the movie.
I would have gone NUTS for this thing when I was 10, and I think it's pretty cool. While the 1 seater thing is pretty annoying, I'm gonna keep it closed up for the majority of the time anyway, so I can live with it. I had to get the Ramen Toy replacement canopy set though, it's way better than the factory one from McFarlane
Only Mattel has done a good Batmobile. The size of their 1966 is on scale and the figures fit perfect. The McFarlane Batmobiles are out of scale. That is why this one from 1989 has one sit, with the 1966 version the figures don't fit correctly.
As others have said, it's a toy for kids to play with and not a true replica. It serves that purpose for the money. If it was a fully accurate 1/12 model we would probably be looking at £200 to £300.
I got fixed floating center caps for my bimmer *because of* the Keaton Batmobile. Seeing the bat emblem turn with the wheel is making me nauseous. It’s also not long enough.
I didn't buy this when it came out. I found the weird ugly canopy to be completely unacceptable. However, when the Ramen Toy upgrade kit came out I bought that and then a gold label Batmobile. It was an easy install and after the new canopy I'm really happy with it. The paint match from Ramen was excellent. There are some other things on the car that are inaccurate like the big oddly shaped nosecone and the inaccurate paint on the wheels, but as a toy at this scale I think it's pretty good. Without the Ramen kit this would be a no go for me.
I paid about the same for this Batmobile as I did for the animated series. I like them both, but I agree the 89 should be a 2 seater and have lights. They released a tumbler that is a 2 seater.
It's difficult to tell without seeing it in person, but I wouldn't be surprised if the inconsistency in the color is due to the body panels being molded in the color as opposed to being painted at all. Molding in the color saves money, and if they cheaped out in choosing what factory they partnered with overseas, odds are likely the batches of plastic could've been mixed inconsistently. Speaking as someone who works in the toy industry, that sort of blotchiness should've been caught in the production sample stages by the dev team. It obviously wasn't, so that tells me Mcfarlane most likely got a late start on this one, or WB was dragging their feet when it came to approvals (in my experience they often do) and as a result, it was rushed out to market in order to meet their street date.
I agree that I was also pretty bummed out when i 1st got my Flash version of the Batmobile. I think the original release was £50. Add the CAG upgrade for an extra £25 and you have a pretty close representation of the 89' Batmobile. I feel like the re-release was even worse as the real car was a satin and not a matte. And the weird silver rims, what the hell was Mcfarlane thinking 🤦🏽♂️

Yes,it's a Bummer about the Cockpit and Canopy, but once One gets over those Details,it's ok. I went a little further by getting a CAG set Canopy upgrade(I could have done it myself, but just don't have the time)as it should have been. Now,there are some people that do Cockpit Prints for it and I just might go for one to display the Mezco 89'Batman on it. But the Batmobile does Match up Nicely with my 1/12 89'Batwing 🤙
I got it and i love it. I'm not going to be playing with it, it looks good and I'm going to look at it. If i want to wire some lights up I can. I think it was reasonabley priced.
Wait, what? Single seater? Houston, that's a no go for me. Its not even movie accurate. Where is Vicki Vale going to sit? Strap her on top of the canopy? xD
Single seat is a total fail. I passed on this. But I have seen some awesome modifications on UA-cam of this same vehicle. But why do you have to go through so much trouble when they could have done it right for your 80 bucks?
Its 50 bucks. Its never gonna be perfect. I am particular and a stickler of accuracy too. Thats why i went and get the Hot Toys 1989 Batmobile. That one is awesome. Not gonna waste money on a 50 bucks quality product
Honestly I’ve been disappointed in every single mcfarlane product I’ve purchased. Given him several chances, but I’m done. He makes shit quality stuff there’s no way around it. Articulation on most of the figures is terrible, dated tech, for god sakes he’s still using pins in his joints…it’s 2024. Cmon man. The last straw was the dc direct BTAS Batmobile. What a piece of shit that was. He made it as cheap as possible, the plastic felt like something you’d find in a happy meal, or worse. The wires for the lights peaking through the body of the car, the shit lights where you could see the led behind the lens. No detail, no paint. Yeah sorry for the rant but fuck mcfarlane products. Didn’t get this Batmobile for the same reason, no two seater? Da fuck.
That looks like if Macdonalds had a super toy in the Happy Meal for a higher price! 😂 "excuse me, this toy looks silly sir!", "yes, but did you enjoy the meal sir? :) 👍🏻", "well, yeah, I mean...", "great! :)" LOL that batmobile looks less detailed than any WWE action figure you can get these days at Wallmart 😂
By changing a two seater vehicle to a single seater fundamentally changes the vehicle. Imagine if it was a real vehicle what would be mechanically involved in the conversion! So why do it with a collectable scale model. If it were a toy for toddlers yeah! Fair enough but otherwise Nah! Leave it.
Those are awesome. They look fantastic, very accurate, plus almost entirely diecast. The only downer is they're undersized - approx 11 inches, when it should be 14.5 inches long. I would love to see a 2.0.
@@dangiambrone7350 Yeah, they captured a lot of details and contours that many other '89 models either miss or omit. It is unfortunately under scaled as you mentioned. I'm guessing Hot Wheels likes to keep all their 1/18 models around the same general size even it means under scaling or over scaling them. I believe the Hot Wheels '66 Batmobile is about the same length as the '89 when the actual car was shorter than the '89.
I had one of these in the 90s 😅it had guns and opening canopy and missile and may be more i can't remember 😂£10 or 20😅 plastic is cheap 😂so no not worth it 😂😂😂

Brother I get that macfarlane SOMETIMES releases a good figure RARELY. But if you haven’t learned now you may be screwed this brand is a nightmare for collectors especially comic fans. All the comic figs are bad and poor representation. Hes an out of touch boomer brained short sleeved turtleneck wearing business man and possibly the worst thing that could have happened to the DC action figure line (for fans) and me specifically. I’m sure it’s making. A lot of money for now but no one can sustain buying 6 of one figure to try and cobble together a decent representation of there favorite character.
It's a meh Batmobile kinda hollow your right it should've been a lot less. but really it scale's better with mezco 89 Batman figure. Honestly I hate McFarlane products either there's not enough hands and at times or sloppy paint imperfections and his figures always look like the character is wearing a diaper and for some odd reason all his figures always have this wide legged stance nobody stands that way and last but not lease Todd got this thing about making his figures 7" just totally weird.

Factory manufactured for 5 bucks. To be sold for 80 bucks. Reminds me of knock off toys from the 80s.
I ordered the Forever one with Alfred yesterday. I got the 89 Batmobile from Hot Toys.
I ordered the forever version also
How much is the hot toys batmobile
@bmacster1985 it's about 720 dollar.
The batman Rc batmobile is what they should have had for us. This is more a $30 version.
I actually have the RC version coming Sunday for review
Da fuck.
No McFarlane toy is perfect, but the batmobiles are the only options available for 6 and 7 inch scale. When modified its not that bad
Don’t disagree just sucks with the mods if chosen jacks the price up on the overall piece when it should have been done right from the start
Leave it.
I have the Hot Wheels 1/18 Elite Edition. Pricey but very nice.
With the technology we have today. It is very disappointing that it does not light up at all. Cheap and easy for them to do that. Lame
this was a let-down...the one seater that "McKenner" did just took the hype away...
Yup I agree
No articulated pop-up machine guns😢
Just needs my upgrades! I'll do yours for free, just review it when it's done!

@@mr.momcollectibles I do! Tyler21peterson
I had one of these in the 90s 😅it had guns and opening canopy and missile and may be more i can't remember 😂£10 or 20😅 plastic is cheap 😂so no not worth it 😂😂😂
I got a few figures of Mcfarlane and some are hit or miss just typical of any scale, I did pass on this set but did PO the 1:1 '89 cowl they recently announced...see how that one turns out?!?!🍻🦇
The guns should work at least
Brother I get that macfarlane SOMETIMES releases a good figure RARELY. But if you haven’t learned now you may be screwed this brand is a nightmare for collectors especially comic fans. All the comic figs are bad and poor representation. Hes an out of touch boomer brained short sleeved turtleneck wearing business man and possibly the worst thing that could have happened to the DC action figure line (for fans) and me specifically. I’m sure it’s making. A lot of money for now but no one can sustain buying 6 of one figure to try and cobble together a decent representation of there favorite character.
This looks visualy more closer to the Batman returns Pinguin toon batmobil;))
Too much marveling😮 in a paint job
Shit I’d buy it I couldn’t get one and that stinks but shit I’d buy it from you lol
Howdy
Good review 😅
It looks pretty decent with the romen toys cag set
I ordered that kit today
Nice
get the jada toys i have it and it is realy good
What scale is that? Don’t think you can fit any figure in there
The cheese mobile
Mcfarlane stuff is cheaply made and is targeted at more of a toy market really i would never purchase as iam a collector and detail is important
Actually one seater car is kinda of cool, and knowing Batman he will agree.😂😊
Fair point
valid
What's my disappointment😢
What a controversial tittle, I must watch!
😂
It's a cheap mass produced toy.
It was 80 dollars you losers. You're expecting a thousand dollar toy out of an 80 dollar toy. I'd buy this.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@mr.momcollectibles no wonder the vast majority of you live in motels. Blow your money on toys all the time. Never grew up, never understood responsibilities. Cry when cheap toys aren't to your liking.
I guess my 3 bedroom, 2 bath house on 1 acre of property is a motel lol ok
If you wanted a high end 89 Batmobile then go buy a Hot Toys one and stop bitching about things you already knew would be mediocre. It's a display piece at most. People like you just gripe about everything.
@@MikeC_337 😂 I got the hot toys ones and the jazzinc one on order. I’m still allowed to buy and review stuff lol spicy
@@mr.momcollectiblesbut you’re crying about something that’s been reviewed over and over again. I bet you graduated top of your college class
Bottom actually 😂
Yea your overreacting. I get what you mean but i don't want to pay 100 plus for vehicles in this scale when some figures cost 60 plus these days. I just want the representation. I collected the power rangers lightning collection line and people wanted figuarts(import)quality at domestic prices. They nitpicked every little thing and started to whine once they killed the line😂. I just want the shit for my shelf. If i don't like or cant deal I don't buy. But again i completely understand why you feel that way. But nobody was giving us these vehicles this consistently at this price point before or likely after Todd. I'll take what I can get. Keep doing your thing brother
Same old tired argument lol.... ..." just be happy they made something" or ......" it was 60 bucks..what do you expect". Always a gaslight when people defend ol uncle todd. When a car manufacturer puts out a car with a obvious defect no one says ....just be happy they gave you anything its the same differance. Mcfarlane should have made it right and not half assed it because they knew idiots would defend them to the last. And yes...even at 60 bucks it should have been better quality.
Total let down
McFarlane trash……..👍
😂
I was a little disappointed. But now after watching this I hate it…
Dang that sucks... I wouldn't mind taking yours
The canopy is what ruined it for me, so inaccurate.
Batman SUCKS, anyway!!
The movies, the cartoons, the comics!! ALL OF IT!!!
😂
What a waste of money
$75 with a figure. how much cheaper should it have been? thats basically $50 for the batmobile. its not perfect but its still a good value especially for the scale. if a higher end company made one it would be no less than double the price possibly triple with no figure.
Well if by that math your presuming the figure cost is $25 that’s even a ripe off also
@@mr.momcollectiblesyes it’s definitely ripe😂😂😂. It’s a $25 figure which is the going rate. Smart guy.
