Ultimately that’s why my biology degree is awful, it’s a stitching of low level science courses, teaching courses, and a bunch of other random stuff thrown in thanks to the several semesters I had to stall through the specific timings you need for certain teaching courses.

      That's even more vague, isn't it? And I'm far from sure there's any work for people who don't bring anything concrete to the workplace in increasingly automated economies. There was a brief period in the 90s and early 2000s when we believed psychology had finally become scientific. But now we know that was mostly a whole lot of p-hacking and statistical manipulation.

    I have a brother who majored in writing over a decade ago. He's worked phones for customer service ever since he graduated (at least, during the years where he could find a job) and wants to punch his younger self in the face, at least when he's not lamenting his future prospects.
    A word of warning: money may not be able to buy you happiness, but not having it in the form of steady income can sure make you miserable.

      Any advise? I'm about to graduate community college next year with an associate of "computer science information", then i want to get a bachelors in Something?

    • @AfrinonM
      @AfrinonM 2 роки тому +1

      @@sv_gamingaccount6897 I'm a software developer, so I'd advocate continuing in the STEM fields; lots of demand. However I can confidently say that my Bachelors in Computer Science stopped meaning anything more than a checkbox to any prospective employer after my first job, then stopped meaning anything after my second. You'll need it to get your foot in the door in your first few interviews, but after that it's your experience, concrete data points, and "soft skills" that get you employed. Not to say that you shouldn't learn what you can, but what you learn in college will only be the start: I still use the things I learned in college today, but there's so much than that which you only learn "on the job".
      One piece of advice I have for shaping your future: if you have a certain field you want to get into after graduation, look into what programs they are using in that field. I lucked into a bootcamp right out of college that taught me SalesForce, which is a platform that is in high demand right now. My sister is in biotech and works with a software that schedules, automates, and records the machines used to create pharmaceuticals; her talents are also in high demand. Identify what software is in use in the field you want to get into and, if possible, work towards getting certified in it. Certifications mean a lot more to employers than degrees, at least in the Tech sector, because they want people who are familiar with things relevant to the specifics of the job, rather than general knowledge.
      It sounds a lot better to say "I have six years of experience in developing Apex classes and triggers, SFDC Administrative configuration, and Process Builder/Flow automation" than "I have six years in various object-oriented based programing languages such as Java, C++, and Python."
