Can you tell me why my headlight bulb is so ridiculously expensive? It's for a 2008 Mazda 3 4dr. sedan grand touring. I got a quote of $230 for ONE BULB low beam includes installation but most of the cost is for the bulb. Why is it so expensive? I said no when I was given the price. Instead I drive with my brights on so I have a working headlight on that side. My brights aren't very bright at all because nobody ever flashes at me to turn them off. But WHY is this bulb so expensive???
I’m doing the replacement right now and the bracket is the biggest pain in the ass but I’ve found that if you can use a pick to push the bottom part of the bracket down while you’re pushing in the top portion it’s much easier
Three tips: On the passenger side, you can lift up the degas bottle (coolant reservoir) and set it to the side. You may have to yank it upward with some force but you won't break it. The hoses are flexible. Then, divorce the power steering and windshield washer fluid reservoirs from each other by unclipping them. This will give you enough room to see what you are doing and allow you to use a tool (such as a notched wood dowel or flat blade screwdriver) for the installation of the clip behind the silver tab. On the driver's side, remove the lid from the fuse box and that will give you some room to get a tool in there to move the clip. Use a thicker wood dowel with a notch cut in the center and move the clip back, down, and behind the silver tab. That clip is a godawful piece of engineering and the person who designed it should be fired immediately, if not sooner.
Their other video "how to replace headlights" on the Mazda 3 at the timestamp 11:42 shows them changing the bulbs too but the whole headlight is out of the car. The spring thing is a bit more visible. Check out that video, hope this helps everyone.
Since i couldn't figure out how to pull the spring thing i unscrew the spring so i have access to the bulb housing , but now i have to place the spring thing , before i replace the light bulb.
Great video. I was able to replace the driver's side bulb in a few minutes, but then proceeded to spend an hour on the passenger side trying to get the clip to latch on. It would definitely be easier to replace if you remove the entire headlight module so that you can see, but that seems like a pain on this car. Might have ended up taking the same amount of time in my case though. 😆 Also, I recommend you to disconnect the negative battery terminal before disconnecting the fuse panel under the glove box. I didn't disconnect the battery and the check engine light came on the next time I started the car and threw all kinds of codes. I guess it didn't like everything being disconnected despite the car being off.
I work at AutoZone and yesterday was my first time doing a bulb change on this vehicle. It's a difficult job for someone new or someone with larger hands. Yes, you have to take off the electrical connector and the rubber boot first. It makes it much easier. If you haven't done this before, start with the driver side headlight. It's much easier to see inside the housing and also much more room to work than the passenger side and the two fluid necks wedged up against the light housing.
This video made it look easy. My 06 2.0 came with D2S Xenon HID bulbs stock. Before watching this video, I replaced bulbs by having to remove the bumper because it's just so damn tight in there. Now I got another burned out bulb on the driver side. I refuse to believe that removing the bumper and take the whole headlight out is the only way to replace the bulb. Spent a good half hour just looking at it and trying to figure out how to take that bulb out. Then I watched this video. I'll give this a shot tomorrow.
What a job! Not easy, no room . My car has adjustable headlights. Might have to remove drivers head light assy .to get to the bulb. They really did care about the person changing theses bulbs.
You need a video on the HID bulbs. this video is very good. I would of eliminated those clips If I were the engineer . Just have to deal and work with it. thanks
Tip of the day if you’re having contact issues on the passenger side replace the socket overfilling the washer fluid corrodes the socket internally even though they’re “sealed”
Can you upgrade the bulbs for a 2006 without having to buy anything else to adapt? Like halogen bulbs? Or do you have to buy an adapter kit and do some additional wiring?
adapter is already with the bulb that needs to be replaced. once you take out the bulb from your headlight its already attached to a plastic adapter. you need to separate them and put the new bulb and the plastic adapter together and no need for anything else. :)
Whoever designed that clip deserves jail time. If youre struggling, try to push it down closer to bulb, i was trying to find the latch up too high. My fingers are fucking raw from jamming that bit of metal around ugh
Anyone who is stuck on the clip the trick is shown clearly in their other video "how to change a head light 11.35 and it's as simple as how your lining it up. Goodluck
Same problems as most getting the clip back on. I ended up notching the end of a flat screwdriver and then bent it 45 degrees and two seconds later the clip was on.

The next time a headlight burns out on mine, I will just save time and take it to the junk yard and have them crush it. The most frustrating task I have ever done!
‘There’s a metal prong that have to push down release and turn it over.’ Yeah I don’t need to see what you’re talking about because that’s such a detailed description.
Scummy Rebel she left out a huge detail. There’s a small screw that holds the retaining clip in. You have to slightly unscrew it before trying to take the clip out
Couldn't put the clip back on just put the seal on and it's holding on spent almost 45 minutes trying to get that clip on and still could not get it anywhere near the latch
Same for me. I did put back one of it but the other one I think I pushed too much it didn't go to its slot but stayed back there. Now I can't even open it so I just put the seal back on. I suppose Im gonna need a mechanic for next bulbs 😂
I know this isn't the demo here but anyone know how to aim the headlights? My drivers side on my 08 Mazda 3 points down too low and the owners manual apparently is poorly translated so the instructions aren't clear. Cant find a good tutorial on the internet. I had 3 mechanics look at it over the years and the first 2 couldn't figure it out, the 3rd one did but I never had a chance to ask them how they did it but now its pointing a but low again.
Lady mechanic was too late to mention using a mirror. You really can't see how she put the clip back on! I read too many comments (on this vid and others) about how hard they put it back on the first time! I suggest you should look with the mirror to see how the spring clip works and the orientations/layouts BEFORE you take the bulb off.

Not helpful at all! "Use a mirror" - yeah, well, the part you don't show (aligning bulb extender and figuring out how that clip works) is exactly the part that people need help on. An just having a mirror (or a phone camera to fit in that tiny space) does not make it self-evident. Sorry, useless video!!!

Changing this headlight, is pain in the ass, I don't know how you did it, with this much ease..??

Yup, should film two versions, one with the headlight assembly still on the car and another version off the car.
The spring gets me every time it’s what I hate most about this car and there’s no videos I’ve seen yet showing how to release it ugh

I have a Mazda but the sp23 version.. and everything about changing anything on it is completely different
Some people would want to check and see if they have lights before replacing the covers
Thank you for this
I'm missing the spring or clip .... where can I find it? Anybody?
