My other stipulation is it has to be a Sports GT model, for long distance driving and spec.

If you're buying new, try not to drive it a lot in the city, a lot of issues with the particles system (dpf), always check your oil as this engine is known for oil level *rising* due to unburnt fuel that gets in the oil pan (don't know what you call it in English) because of failed dpf regenerations.

I drove a Mazda 3 hatchback during a business trip. It impressed me enough that I think I want one. I thought it was a crossover until I looked it up. The build quality is Lexus good, although Mazda could push more of the cheaper plastics out further beyond the driver's eyeline. And I found the center dash screen clunky. But it was a great experience to drive it, and the driver side mirror turning down to show the curb automatically in reverse was a nice touch.

My girls 2021 Mazda 3 came out to $23k at the dealer grand total and 0% apr. The thing has had no issues at 85k miles now. We've ran it thru every weather condition and its superior handling and smooth powerband has made us handle everything no problems. Everyone who doesnt know cars is always asking what it is and assumes its like $40k because of the interior quality and exterior design.

My only gripes with the new Mazda 3's are that they have direct injection and cylinder deactivation. Those features are prone to eventual cylinder warping and carbon buildup. I love the fact that they still come with conventional automatic transmissions. Mazda also does do beautiful work with the paint jobs on these cars.
