Thanks for posting. I have a transmission drive belt(on a 16-38HXL) that is hanging on by the outer belt casing. The blade drive belt is ok. So, I shouldn't have to remove the deck in order to replace the transmission belt??
Just bought one of these used and need to replace this deck belt. What is the size of the belt? I keep seeing an 88 inch vbelt for everything I'm looking at, but the belt I removed was 115 inches. Is the 88 in a different belt on this tractor?
does the pulley with the spring that puts tension on the drive belt is that supposed to rotate with the belt? I've replaced mine and my belt squeals back there on that pulley because it don't move its burning the belt
My drive belt broke tonight on my 16-38. Do you have to take the deck off to change this? My mower is stuck out in the middle of my front lawn. The rear pin that normally lets you push the mower wont engage so I need to make the repair in an non-ideal spot.
Brett, you do not need to remove the deck. Remove the battery and battery tray. You should only need a 7/16", 1/2" ratchet and wrench . Reach down in the opening under seat to put on the rear end and tensioner. Then reach under the mower to put the belt on the engine.
BlackTop Cruisers I replaced the belt today and the tractor still won’t engage. The pto works fine and the blades move. My tractor has 4 pullies that the drive belt needs to be routed through. The belt is definitely the same size as the old one but I have a little slack at the transmission side. Any ideas what took for next?
It sounds like you may not have the belt routed correctly. Try this routing i.ytimg.com/vi/M0TzPsy1QNA/hqdefault.jpg Also, the belt will be loose while the clutch/brake is engaged.

There is a way to do it from the top, but it's a huge pain.
I found this way to be the easiest and quickest way.

How long is the belt on the 1644hxl? appears to be 1/2", but the existing belt was clearly longer than it was supposed to be on mine. bought it used.

Yes, it should spin freely
The grass. Never leave your upper deck like that rust magnet. Dirt all over, get an air compressor and clean the thing a couple times a year.
Im terrible at this stuff.. i replaced belt but seems to be slipping... is there a way to tighten the belt tension on this tractor?
What is speks of the the belt you used?😉😉
