Chevy S 10 no weld exhaust flange repair

- Hello Folks. Back in the summer we had the front pipe break on our S-10 pickup, right at the flange where it connects to the rear pipe. The estimate to change the front pipe was $1200.00. So I took some time and came up with a fix. If I had access to a welder I could have given that a try, but so far the repair is holding, 5 months later. This repair cost about $30.00. Sorry about the slide show at the beginning, I am still working on my editing. Cheers Stahodad. (Sta-Ho-Dad).

Great work. I like how you filled the gap with copper wire.
Whatever works! Yeah, they wanted $1200 on mine, too.
Fixed it ten months ago with a tin can and four hose clamps.
Got a 97 suburban. On the road far from home and mechanics turned me away from rust. Going to try the same repair this afternoon
Thanks for posting this, I’ve learned new techniques and ideas from you.
Great video , they have a split flange that tighten around pipe.
Why not just chop both flanges off and put a small flex pipe over it with clamps? Cost about the same and will actually last.
Because the main side is fine so its a temporary fix before putting on the actual parts
Ya I would have done a replacement flange it would have been almost as cheap and a lot easier just slide it over the manifold pipe weld it or clamp it on and it would last longer then this jb weld job
You are right. That's the way to go. Just hack the shit off. Thanks for the suggestion.
When i saw the jb come out i got worried but it looks like a solid repair to get a few more years out of er. well done.
Haha this is apparently such a common failure that no auto makers have addressed with proper anti corrosion coating at the muffler inlet flange weld. Just took mine in to get welded since it is on a relatively newer vehicle (2011 outlander) and dont want any future leaks from a new split flange joint
Thank you very much! This was very helpful!
a BIG LMFAO
when he whipped out the JB weld
Why not just cut the flange off all together and put a length of pipe in there with 2 muffler clamps?
you know why?? because if you need later on a middle pipe, then you would have to cut the new put and do this again, if you dont cut it like you say, then you just have those two bolts and just connect the new one
I used JB weld high heat putty to repair this on my Maxima. Lasted for 3 months and got me through a state inspection.
Good job Man!
is that putting welding still good?? that was about a year ago right??

30 years ago auto parts shops sold kits for this problem one end fit over the broken side. The other end had the matching flange to bolt to. Line up your parts slowly tighten and get the lager OD pipe drawn toward the flanges. Torque the flanges bolts and add a exhaust clamp around the connection of the kit pipe and the broken original pipe. Measure often cut once and drive away quietly.
good job
Cant say its a bad idea. Thanks for sharing. Still holding up? If not how long did the repair last? Thanks
Get a grinder with a cutting disc to cut the pipe, Lot quicker than a hacksaw.
Eso en México le llamamos Mickey mouse! Jajajajaja
That pipe is hurtin!
Thanks for the video! How long did it actually hold?
Will this repair pass a smog test? Or is this only to keep you from getting pulled over?
good invention but it will not hold too long, jb weld will disintegrate before long from vibration and leak with alot of noise, great try tho
interesting approach. it will hold for a while i bet, until it doesnt
carry along some sleeves good cordless drill and self tapping screws on the road for old exhausts emergency fix. thanks .
Next time you could try a split repair flange they are cheap and will grab onto the pipe so you wouldn't have to JB weld it.
Thanks Man. I am on my second on a Ford Taurus. I will keep that in mind next time.👍
201st susbriciber! Woo-hoo lol. Great vid, keep'm comin'
Good info but would be great if it was edited. Too long and slow.
Is this J. Mascis?
Dinosaur Jr?
Buy stainless steel pipes, make new exhaust
I don't think this was a good repair and i don't know why you drilled the pipe and left copper wire inside the pipe. Why didn't you just form it and drive it in like packing? That aside, considering your time and expense, you could have simply had a local welder weld it properly for a few bucks. This repair made no sense for a variety of reasons.
Holy shit this is hack. Get new metal in there. Damnit.
