Hi, Thank you for explaining so well, much appreciated. I wished you had shown how the wrong side of the project looked so one can get a better understanding of how the carried forward yarns looks. Cheers
Ah I’m sorry I didn’t show the back of the work, the back looks the same as the front as the yarn is incased within the stitches rather than carried across the back.
Thank you so much for this. I’m a beginner and usually have to scroll for a video that explains it well and doesn’t end up confusing me more, but you’re video was seriously so through yet simple enough to understand
I loved this tutorial. I would have liked for you to show how to handle bobbins in the the row turn. That’s where I get really tangled/somewhat frustrated
Ahh I’m so glad you enjoyed it, I have spend many hours getting tangled myself, so now I like to crochet at a table (for colour work) I turn the work & then move each bobbin to untangle, and repeat for each turn. When you work like this you only lift them over a bobbin or two at a time so they never actually get really tangled. I hope this helps 😊
This is an excellent video showing how to change colors, carry yarn and read the chart! I've always called this Intarsia Crochet, not Tapestry Crochet. Intarsia Crochet uses the bobbins. Tapestry Crochet works over the carried yarn. Could this technique be called Tapestry Crochet in the UK and Intarsia Crochet in the US? It looks like you're doing Tapestry Intarsia Crochet using both techniques together (using bobbins across the row and carrying the yarn in spots to use again). Thanks for the idea of using the organza bag for a bobbin!
Whoot whoot British tems THANK YOU. its very nice pattern already at start and super clear and I thought of using a little bag I usually use spools Liked and subscribed.
This was helpful but it would be nice to know how you start adding and ending colors, like what you do with the tails ie: tie off or work over with no securing. Thanks.
Hi, when I am finished with a colour, if I don’t need it again I cut it off leaving a tail, at the end when weaving in that end I like to weave a bit then tie a small knot to a stitch then weave again. Some people will just weave it in and some will work over the end until the tail runs out, but this is personal preference 😊
I love the organza bag bobbin! I have quite a few of those. Have you done a tutorial on the even rows? I can’t picture how to carry the thread. Thank you.
This is a very helpful technique but may I ask how about if you're going to turn your work? isn't it going to ruin the pattern from the front since you are stitching from the back?
@@bluee112_aj Hi, If the pattern is designed like this in turned rows then it will have been taken into account by the designer, the only time it will look different is if the pattern is designed in the round (this will be stated at the beginning of the pattern) bags and baskets are generally made in the round.
Hello! This tutorial was really helpful, you are so good! I'm struggling with 2 colours hahan't. By the way, do you flip your work and continue normally? I feel that the front of each row is different (like the double of the back) and it looks kind of weird, I don't know if I should just ignore it.
Hi, thank you so much, yes you chain the desired amount, turn & continue like normal. Good point, maybe I could do a video showing front and back, tapestry is designed with the angle of the front stitches in mind, so yeah the back may look a little different.
Ah it’s lovely isn’t it. The pattern is by Jo Janes, here is the link to Love Crafts where you can purchase the pattern www.lovecrafts.com/en-gb/p/mum-blanket-crochet-pattern-by-jo-janes
Thank you so much. find out how many stitches there are horizontally & vertically on the back panel (minus 5-10 stitches all around so it isn’t too close to the seams) and that is how big your chart needs to be.
um does it matter if i use single crochet or half double? I've always seen patterns or tutorials using sc, but you're using hdc. So- does it matter heh?
With tapestry crochet the back would look very similar to the front. The pink I dropped would be picked up on my wrong side row to make more pink stitches in that area, I only dropped it because for my demo I didn’t need the pink again so didn’t want to carry it to the end, & then have to carry it all the way back to where it was. I hope this helps ☺️
@@craftycruella would you carry it all the way to the end and back again if you were to actually complete the design? Or can you drop the light pink and then pick it up again when you need it for the next row?
@@laurasophie3059you would carry the colour if you still need it, but drop it on the last stitch in that colour, then it’s in the right place for the next row. I hope this helps.
Hi, no…..all all colour work (tapestry/intarsia) is started from the bottom right hand corner (bottom left if you are left handed) as the nature of crochet grows from bottom up.

This was honestly an amazing and clear calm tutorial. You made me more excited to start this journey of creating my own designs
Oh wow, thank you for this comment. I’m so glad you found it a useful, good luck with your own design journey x
Love the tutorial. I was hoping if went to the end of the row to show how to carry the multiple colors up the side.
I’m making a sweater for my friend and this tutorial was very precise and to the point!:) thank you!

Very helpful. I’ve always wanted to try tapestry but have been confused about how to organize the yarn. This did the trick. Thank you.

Brilliant tutorial. Xx
I have been wrecking my brain on how to do a scarf with constant colour changes. This will work! Thank you so much! 💜
Ah I’m so glad my video has been helpful for you, have fun making your scarf ☺️
Amazing ideas to keep the yarn😮
Thank you for great info.❤️
Hii, i've tried this technique but i can always see the second color through the stitches, i don't know what to do about that, do you have any advice?
ihhhh i’m pretty sure that’s just a thing you have to cope with unfortunately; could be EXTREMELY wrong though
I think making your stitches tighter

Why did you choose to work with the hdc instead of the sc? Is it a personal choice?
The designer of this pattern chose to use HDCs, some designers prefer the look of this stitch some use it because the piece works up quicker.
I love the organza bag bobbin! I have quite a few of those. Have you done a tutorial on the even rows? I can’t picture how to carry the thread. Thank you.
Glad you like the little bag bobbins, I haven’t done a tutorial for the even rows, everything is worked and carried the same for both sides 😊
This is a very helpful technique but may I ask how about if you're going to turn your work? isn't it going to ruin the pattern from the front since you are stitching from the back?
Thank you, no it doesn’t ruin the pattern at all, the designer of whatever pattern you make will have this in mind.
@@craftycruella what if you’re the creator of the pattern and never accounted for this??

um does it matter if i use single crochet or half double? I've always seen patterns or tutorials using sc, but you're using hdc. So- does it matter heh?
If the pattern states HDC and has a picture on the design, I would use the stated stitch or you will distort the picture.
what happens if u yarn under instead of over 🤔
If you yarn under it can make your stitches slightly smaller, and slant to one side. Have a play around.
I finally understand! Could I just leave a bunch of tails to weave in later?
Ahh that’s great. Well you could, but I wouldn’t advise it, you would have hundreds of ends to sew in.
I wish you had shown the back side as well because you left the pink hanging.

Hi, no…..all all colour work (tapestry/intarsia) is started from the bottom right hand corner (bottom left if you are left handed) as the nature of crochet grows from bottom up.
Is all tapestry crochet done with half double crochet
Hi, tapestry crochet can be worked in whatever stitch the pattern calls for. Normally single crochet or half double ☺️
How can I get the pattern
what’s the measurements of the yarn and hooks? :)
Hi, I used DK yarn and a 4mm hook
Bonjour très bien mais j'aurais aimer voir comment on faisait pour le retour...
Hello, in tapestry crochet the back is worked the same as the front, and they will look very similar too. 😊

is this video incredibly quiet for anyone else?
No Its fine?
its definitely significantly quieter than other videos
how do you reccommend weaving the ends of the colours in?
I weave my ends in as normal, trying to keep the colour weaved in to the same colour so it’s less visible. So weave blue into a blue section etc.😊
