I am a huge music lover and I have heard in my lifetime all of the greatest singers, Streisand, Olivia Newton John, to name a few and don't get me wrong I love them and their singing, but NOBODY and I mean NOBODY touches my heart so deeply as Karen Did with every song she sang. Like her brother, Karen was a genius in knowing the perfect way to sing every song she sang. Her voice is jaw-dropping with every song she sang. I think just about everyone would agree that Karen almost always moves you to tears when you hear "That voice". I always Loved her so much all my life and the world lost so much when we lost the Brilliant Karen Carpenter. She will always stand alone at the #1 position.
Karen’s voice was simply magical and her loss to the world was and is immeasurably tragic. I loved her, along with the world, and I’m routinely moved to tears by the Carpenters music and by the realization of Karen’s tragically shortened life.
Stop it, you took every word, every word out of my mouth, God bless you! Brilliant insight, those other singers blow me away, but Karen's voice touches my soul, heart and spirit, it envelops me and gives me peace. That no other singer can do, not even close!!!!!
You think Karen Carpenter's voice was better than Whitney Houston's? Why does there need to be a greatest? There are hundreds of great female vocalists and you can't really compare them.
Having been a fan of Karen’s voice since her start, I can probably come close to explaining what her specific gift is. Re listen to the WORDS as she sings, each word is a song in itself that evokes an emotion…you feel it in your soul. Never heard any other singer that has that specific gift. ✌️🕊🎼
Credit to Leon Russell for giving us this masterpiece, and for The Carpenters for giving us this arrangement, and for Karen Carpenter.... You will *always* be remembered for your voice, for your gift...
THEE most pure, rich, intimate, warm, moving, beautiful voice ever! the ultimate vocalist who sang TO YOU NOT AT YOU....as her brother stated "her voice a PHONO-Genic" and herb albert who signed the carpenters to his label A & M " she sounds like she is sitting in your lap and singing only to you!"....she also had the most perfect diction and enunciation i have ever heard from any vocalist or singer male or female..
Yes! Her voice always touches my soul. You'll love this. John Bettas, who wrote 6 of their megahits, was asked in an interview not too long ago, "What did Karen sound like when you first heard her?" His answer wow-ed me. He said, "I first heard Karen sing when I met Richard in college. Karen was 16 years old at the time, and she sounded like she did when she was in her 20's. She had that voice already, given to her by God."
Karen Carpenter was a true natural, she didn't have to try and sing. The music just flowed out of her no different than how a mountain stream flows down a mountainside, it doesn't have to try, it just flows.
Karen was an amazing talent as well as her brother, Richard. They can take a song like this, written and composed by 60's piano rocker, Leon Russell and turn it into a masterpiece. The composition and her vocal expression makes every song better! Karen was a gift from heaven.
Her voice is so good that its almost un-describable...there's not enough adjectives in the English language to describe her singing voice...it just soars at times...she can easily put billions of goosebumps on my arms with that voice that just soars...its such a tragic thing that she died at the age of 33
Greatest singer ever hands down I’m a big tough guy I hear that voice it turns me into a mushball the only singer that has ever done that to me it’s haunting
Her voice…. You turn on the stereo with all the equalizer settings at zero, and her voice is like when all the equalizer settings are magically synched.
The thing with Karen's voice in my humble opinion is that it touches your soul and that is what you feel..I know no other singer..male..female..alive or dead can do what Karen's voice can..she was too good for this life..so God took her to sing with the angels...
Right on! Angelic voice for God and his angels to enjoy! Her three level octave range and deep contralto sound was so special and unique. Reaches down to that good place in my heart and soul. Timeless. Rest in peace Karen and know that there are millions who love you!
A Song for You, written and sung by Leon Russell - ua-cam.com/video/37dw2r45Xzg/v-deo.html . But, as usual, nobody ever sang it better than Karen. She sings right into your soul. The only bad part is, now you will never hear a better singer in your life.
Leon Russel's timeless classic. Karen's voice and Leon Russel's song is like a perfect marriage. If I'm not mistaken Richard Carpenter did the arrangement of this version. It's on an out of this world level and it still stands today as a Carpenters fan favorite like me. It feels like a farewell song to her fans on a personal level. Love "For All We Know" as well. Two of my favorite Carpenters song.
her voice was purity and richness and warmth and intimacy personified! Add in her perfect pitch and tone and incredible enunciation and diction and well there you have it.... As many over the years have said she sang to the listener NOT at them, she felt like she was singing only for you, it felt like she was sitting in your lap singing to you and that she knew EVERYTHING that a human (i.e. the listener) was going thru.. She was and always will be the master storyteller who knew the song was NOT about her but for the listener. One of if not THEE greatest vocalist (not just a great singer) of love and romance songs ever, male or female...
Her voice is both haunting and hypnotic. Don't ever dis the low tones of a singer. Everyone raves over the high notes, and they can be trailing, but nothing touches your soul like her low notes. Think Isaac Hayes for men. 🤤
Karen has the most unique voice love ever heard. She is one of the iconic singers of the twentieth century.Karin is right there with the likes of Sinatra, Holiday, Fitzgerald, Streisand, Bennett, Washington and a few others. She is truly one of the iconic singers of the 20th century. God rest her soul.
Richard was the golden child in the eyes of his parents (especially his mother). Karen, with that voice was a throwaway in her eyes. She didn't matter; she was replaceable. That is why she developed Anorexia and died at 32 years old, despite having one of the best voices in music history.
The line "And when my life is over, remember when we were together, we were alone and I was singing this song for you" gets me every time. Someone in a different post said Karen can soothe your soul and break your heat at the same time. It is so true.
I was 4 years old when The Carpenters came onto the music scene. Music was my refuge from the loss of my Dad dying. I always sang to the radio. Always. My aunt said I sang lyrics before I could speak completely... Hearing Karen Carpenter was inspiring. She taught me to sing from my soul. I emulated her. For many years she helped me through the darkness of grief. I wish I could have thanked her. To this day I get goosebumps and cry because of the pure beauty of her voice. The unbelievable magic of Richard's arrangements. Thank you so much for appreciating her. I love when young people look back and listen to music that I grew up with and can feel it and really appreciate it. Bless you dear.
This is a song Leon Russell wrote and sang. He was a top classical trained pianist since age 4. Listen to his version. Many have covered it. Karen makes everything sound other worldly. Like a totally different song because she was so amazing. Richard's harmonies and arrangement didn't hurt. Quite a duo.
I can never quite put it in words but it reminds me when I try out speakers...once in a while you find a speaker that has perfect amount of bass, mid range, and higher ranges...thats Karen's voice...its so full of highs mids lows...but theres always a sort of full sound to her voice other singers lack....and her lows are to die for.....one of a kind...God given perfection
She had that ineffable ability to reach inside and pluck those heart strings. That emotion in her voice came from someplace real. She never took vocal lessons, she just had pure God given talent and she could just do it; that’s Karen, such a huge loss.
Back in the day when this was on the radio, you had to almost hide your love of the Carpenters. It was nerdy music. This was in the days of heavy metal bands, and they were just the opposite. It's nice that they are appreciated for making absolutely fabulous music today.
yeah I was a rock and roll teenager but I didn't care, I listened to the hard stuff but whenever they were on TV I tried to watch. Truth is I had a big crush on Karen, I thought she was so beautiful and feminine.
Thanks for the awesome reaction! One of my favorite Carpenters songs. There was a TV movie about her in the 80's. And they played this song at the very end of the movie when you know she was going to die. And hearing her sing, "and when my life is over" - ugh, it was heart wrenching!
I have to agree with that, Karen wore her heart on here sleeve and she allowed us mere mortals to be on that journey with her what a complete honour to listen to Karen. She's singing with the angels I'm sure of that.
Karen natural speaking is singing. It's just organic to her. Her phraseology is always spot on perfect. Her power seems effortless. Truly a one in a billion voice.
This song never fails to touch my heart, knowing the suffering in Karen's life and her passing at such a young age. She touched my heart in 1969 through 2021, and always will.
Thank you to Leon Russell for writing such a beautiful, haunting song and for Karen Carpenter turning it into a masterpiece. She had the voice of an angel!!!
Hello Michelle your so right we as mere mortals stand back in total respect of such a superb talent as Karen. while also acknowledging the writers of such songs too have a great day.
Her voice was effortless, don’t think I’ve ever heard her take a breath as she sang. Her voice could powerful, soft, light hearted then sad almost simultaneously.... She was a huge hit in Japan. So much so that at least two Japanese women almost copied her voice.... but not quite. A generational talent at least if not once in a lifetime talent !! You have a real knack for describing her voice in a unique way from one song to the next. I enjoy your reactions !! Thank You 🙏🏻
Hi, You are not alone, I am a huge music lover and I have heard thousands of singers in my lifetime and many hundreds and hundreds of them I love but NOBODY will ever have the effect on me that Karen Carpenter does. THe only singer who sends me through a hundred emotions with every song she sings, and the only singer who gives me chills and goosebumps down my spine, and yes, I cry too, because Karen's voice will always be the most gorgeous singing voice I ever heard in my life. In 1,000-2,000 years from now there still will be nobody who can come close to the voice of Karen Carpenter.
My fav Carpenters track. Thank you. In addition to "timeless" talent, she was also a beautiful "girl nextdoor." Dionne Warwick did a beautiful tribute.
The word you are looking for to describe her voice is "sublime". It is the word to describe the indescribable experience that affects you at your core. Karen was a rare person and a once-a-millennium voice. Those who have been listening for years are with you. Welcome to the club.
Karen's voice reaches inside me. Those low notes resonate with my heart beat or some such thing. A good sax does something similar. Karen and that sax are a great match.
Yep, her vocals, the sax solo and the pure arrangement sucks your heart out of your chest and we get to actually feel our raw emotions of what it’s like to deeply feel what life is. I just played this for someone and they just sat silent for a bit afterwards before they could find the words to speak. Thanks .
I just watched a documentary about the Carpenters. I learned that Richard was really the mastermind musically in the group. He really never gets credit. She was the most reluctant star ever. Mean comments about her weight led her to her fatal eating disorder. Fame is not for everyone.
What a great reaction! Great to see the younger generation appreciating Karen's voice and Richard's superlative arrangement. The saxophone break is inspired and gets me every time despite having listened to this song many many times. Fortunate to have seen them live in London back in the day. Continue to rest in peace Karen. Gone but never forgotten.
She creates such intimacy, making you feel like she is singing directly to you. The lady had such heart and purity of soul which enables her to deliver a song with such beauty and clarity.
I love that Karen brings you to tears. I feel blessed to have lived in a time where her music was fresh and new. She brings me back to a nice childhood when the world was a much safer place although we only knew it as the world we lived in. Those 70s singers were so talented. Not to take anything away from today's artists, but they don't have the depth, the vocal range or even the RAW talent to hold a candle to those who came before them.
You said in another video, she sings effortless. She doesn't sing to destroying her vocal cord. Karen Carpenter is the platinum standard of how to sing without destroying the vocal cord.
Carpenters were an amazing group with amazing voices and arrangements. The sax solo in A Song for You is second to none. Gets me choked up every time I hear it. Thank you DayOne for loving them so much and for letting us watch your fantastic reactions. You're the best.
Her 3 Octave Voice, the Depth of the Sound of Her Voice and the way She Pronounces Every Silble. Her Pronunciation in the Words of Her Songs, is So Crisp and Clear, We Hear Every Word and It Seems Like Every Word Reaches Our Hearts. God Gave US a Treasure and was Lost To Soon!! I am Greatful for the Time That She Was With US!!!
Check out The Carpenters "Bless the Beasts and the Children" it was nominated for an Academy Award in 1972. I get sad every time I hear her voice because of all the music we didn't get to experience because she passed so young.
Her voice is just heavenly, I just imagine what angels might sound like every time I hear it. Really am enjoying your reactions and you have a new sub. With the holidays coming up you really need to do "Merry Christmas Darling", you'll love it
You have to pay attention to the great range in her voice. I think it goes from Men's Bariatone to Women's Alto Soprano. Also, listen to how crisp her diction is, there's no wondering what she is singing. One last thing..... this was before Auto tune as well. In short, she was gorgeous, had such a beautiful voice and not hard to look at. We will NEVER have another singer again with such God given talent.
She suffered from low self esteem. Never thought she was good enough, pretty enough, and especially not thin enough. Plus, she had tragic love life. Her heart gave out when she was 32, after YEARS of suffering from the eating disorder Anorexia Nervosa. A disorder that was not seen as dangerous as it was. Sadly, her death opened the eyes of the medical and psychological fields, which opened new doors for treatments for anyone who suffered from the disorder. Tragic loss of LIFE, as well as her beautiful talents.
It just doesn't get any better than Karen Carpenter!! Your reactions are honest and true. I love to see the younger generations listen to the songs we grew up with!! It was such a GREAT time to be alive!! I am now a subscriber to your channel. If you want to hear a "deep" song that will probably make you cry, try listening to "Time" by the Allen Parsens Project. Listen to the lyrics . . . it's a great song and they have many others.
She has that effect on me as well. I,d like to see your reaction to two of her later songs-"Look to Your Dream's and "Now". The latter was her final recording I believe.
This is my all time favorite Carpenters song. It starts so simple and pure then when Richard joins in for the harmonies "cause my love is in there hiding" it just grabs me and won't let go.
You may not have realized it, but her voice leaves you speechless. That's why it's hard to describe. You're just left speechless because it's so beautiful. :)
What a gift the Almighty gave to humanity. So blessed to have this talent recorded for future generations to hear and enjoy. Gone too soon. There goes another tear. 😪 God I miss her.
I love that you are so taken with Karen Carpenter's voice...she was...IS...remarkable. It's like she can tune in to the frequency of your heart. You are genuine in your reactions, enjoyable to watch, articulate, and lovely. Thank you for this video. ❤❤
I don't like to request again because all her songs is so very nice to hear..I'm just enjoying your reaction to her songs. As i keep saying,No one comes close to her voice..And i want you to know that she's my lady until now..Nice job pretty girl...Nice meeting you ANGELA...I'm just here waiting for you to react to KC's songs..
How True She Was Incredible ❤️
She puts everything into it.
You think too highly of yourself
So true
Credit to Leon Russell for giving us this masterpiece, and for The Carpenters for giving us this arrangement, and for Karen Carpenter.... You will *always* be remembered for your voice, for your gift...
Simply put, she doesn't sing at you, she sings to you, and only you!!
Yep!
THEE most pure, rich, intimate, warm, moving, beautiful voice ever! the ultimate vocalist who sang TO YOU NOT AT YOU....as her brother stated "her voice a PHONO-Genic" and herb albert who signed the carpenters to his label A & M " she sounds like she is sitting in your lap and singing only to you!"....she also had the most perfect diction and enunciation i have ever heard from any vocalist or singer male or female..
ok…you’re a fan
The drummer who sang. Ridiculous talent.
Yes! Her voice always touches my soul.
You'll love this. John Bettas, who wrote 6 of their megahits, was asked in an interview not too long ago, "What did Karen sound like when you first heard her?" His answer wow-ed me. Karen's voice just penetrates my soul!! No one better. I can listen to her all day everyday!!
Her voice…. You turn on the stereo with all the equalizer settings at zero, and her voice is like when all the equalizer settings are magically synched.

I agree. Her voice was amazing. Three level octave and deep

The clarity!
Her voice is both haunting and hypnotic. Don't ever dis the low tones of a singer. Everyone raves over the high notes, and they can be trailing, but nothing touches your soul like her low notes.
Think Isaac Hayes for men. 🤤
Lady, she does that to everyone every single time

She is truly one of the iconic singers of the 20th century. God rest her soul.
Shout out for Leon Russell the author of this and also Superstar and Masquerade which were HUGE hits for Karen and her talented voice.
Richard was the golden child in the eyes of his parents (especially his mother). Karen, with that voice was a throwaway in her eyes. She didn't matter; she was replaceable. That is why she developed Anorexia and died at 32 years old, despite having one of the best voices in music history.
Another classic song by Leon Russell (RIP) You already reacted to "This Masquerade" and "Superstar" also by Leon .
Yep, she has a voice for the ages... thank God we can continue to enjoy it.
The line "And when my life is over, remember when we were together, we were alone and I was singing this song for you" gets me every time. Someone in a different post said Karen can soothe your soul and break your heat at the same time. It is so true.
Those words became even more meaningful to me after she passed away unexpectedly.
I was 4 years old when The Carpenters came onto the music scene. Music was my refuge from the loss of my Dad dying. I always sang to the radio. Always. I can't help but cry when I hear Karen sing. my God, I'm a strong man but my heart breaks into shreds...
Written by the late great singer/songwriter Leon Russell. The Carpenters also covered "Superstar" and "This Masquerade" by Leon Russell.
She could do worse than to react to Mr. Russell’s original versions of these songs. There’s a reason so many have covered them.
@@ronwilcox7716 They were covered by so many because they were good....
Yes! This!
I used to go to HI-FI shows in the UK many years ago. Guess what artist they used when demonstrating equipment?
She had that ineffable ability to reach inside and pluck those heart strings. That emotion in her voice came from someplace real. She never took vocal lessons, she just had pure God given talent and she could just do it; that’s Karen, such a huge loss.

Her voice is haunting, it gets into your soul, and makes you feel something deep inside...Always!
That’s exactly the way I’ve always described her voice hauntingly beautiful
I have to agree with that, Karen wore her heart on here sleeve and she allowed us mere mortals to be on that journey with her what a complete honour to listen to Karen. She's singing with the angels I'm sure of that.
Don’t worry, she does it to a whole bunch of us too 🤙🏼❤️🙏🏼 We miss you Karen

her voice was a gift to all of us!
I've been listening to carpenters for nearly 50 years and that's exactly how I feel HER VOICE!!!
Leon Russell's masterpiece A Song For You. He also wrote Masquerade. The Carpenter's versions will also stand the test of time.
‘Superstar’ as well.
"I love you in place where there's no space or time." That lyric in her voice says it all.
Infinity!
Just imagine the wealth of songs that she and Richard could have created had she lived a full and long life.
I always said her beautiful voice makes you feel her pain. No other singer has that effect. But yet I can't stop listening to her.
My fav Carpenters track. Thank you. In addition to "timeless" talent, she was also a beautiful "girl nextdoor." Dionne Warwick did a beautiful tribute.
And When My Life Is Over Remember When We Were Together We Were Alone And I Was Singing This Song For You That Gets Me Everytime Sweet Karen RIP❤️💔💖💘
Karen's voice is like a long trusted friend speaking to you in song. You believe and feel every word.
I had the biggest crush on Karen growing up. It was no different with her music. RIP beautiful Karen.
you're not alone. I still do. Amazing then and still now.
Absolutely! Karen's photo on the front of the Horizon album does it for me!
Music that makes you feel deeply is a gift like no other.
The word you are looking for to describe her voice is "sublime". It is the word to describe the indescribable experience that affects you at your core. Karen was a rare person and a once-a-millennium voice. Those who have been listening for years are with you. Welcome to the club.
She’s breathtaking. Her brother did such a beautiful job arranging all the songs and they harmony’s are incredible.
Her voice will leave you speechless. Enough said!
She does it to me every single time…also! 🙂😓❤️ Her brother Richard’s arrangement of this song is a work of art!

I love you in a place where there's no space or time. Think of that. Her voice aside, what a lyric.
Too me, she's simply the best female singer I've ever heard period
You said in another video, she sings effortless. She doesn't sing to destroying her vocal cord. Karen Carpenter is the platinum standard of how to sing without destroying the vocal cord.
Carpenters were an amazing group with amazing voices and arrangements. The sax solo in A Song for You is second to none. Gets me choked up every time I hear it. Thank you DayOne for loving them so much and for letting us watch your fantastic reactions. You're the best.
The great sax solo was by Bob Messenger- he passed away November 2021….
GREAT description!
The voice of an angel! Once in a generation talent! Beautiful!
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FEMALE SINGING VOICE I’VE EVER HEARD!’ 😍Silky Velvety Silk 🎤💫
Those low registers notes 🎶 (beautiful Contralto voice 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾💕💕💕)

She is so great at telling a story with her voice, conversational style!
Leon Russell wrote and sang it.He has a gruff raspy voice but it is heartfelt
Darling , you're discovering "HER VOICE!" that many of us discovered decades ago and sorely miss to this day. 💔
Loved your heartfelt reaction. Karen's voice is so special that it, indeed, goes straight to one's heart.
She's been doing it to me every time for 50 years.
Check out The Carpenters "Bless the Beasts and the Children" it was nominated for an Academy Award in 1972. I get sad every time I hear her voice because of all the music we didn't get to experience because she passed so young.
Nothing against Barbara Streisand and Whitney Houston ,but Karen Carpenter is the greatest singer of alltime.
Indeed no doubt about it.
There is no argument there John .
No doubt….no doubt. It's from another world. From God!
Her Voice Penetrates too Your Soul and Grab Your Heart Strings.
and when my life is over - so sad so tragic that she died too young - but her wonderful voice was a song for the world
Her voice is just heavenly, I just imagine what angels might sound like every time I hear it.
Karen did not do second takes. She came in and sang it once. She didn't need to do it twice.
Don't forget that she also had perfect pitch. Even if auto tune had been around, she would never have needed to use it!
Leon Russell wrote this song, but Karen blew it off the charts with her voice.
Welcome to the "Karen Carpenter's voice rips your heart out" Club
Donny is good and has his own style, but there was only one Karen!😊 No one sings this like her!
Karen Carpenter has the most pure 3 active voice I've ever heard I still think she is one of the best talents and it's a shame we lost her so early.
This is my all time favorite Carpenters song. It starts so simple and pure then when Richard joins in for the harmonies "cause my love is in there hiding" it just grabs me and won't let go.
She was, quite obviously, a master of her craft. That's what makes the difference.
You may not have realized it, but her voice leaves you speechless. That's why it's hard to describe. You're just left speechless because it's so beautiful. :)
Her voice is of the true angel
Her voice is just incredible, such a deep soft sound, beautiful. xx
Leon Russell's SONG FOR YOU..... IS A MUST , even if you just listen... R.I.P. MR LEON RUSSELL. 🌷☮️. R.I.P. K. C.🌷
What a gift the Almighty gave to humanity. So blessed to have this talent recorded for future generations to hear and enjoy.
Gone too soon. There goes another tear. 😪
God I miss her.
I love that you are so taken with Karen Carpenter's voice...she was...IS...remarkable. It's like she can tune in to the frequency of your heart. You are genuine in your reactions, enjoyable to watch, articulate, and lovely. Thank you for this video. ❤❤
Her voice is that of an angel, it grabs your soul and shakes it around a bit.
I'm proud that a member of humanity had perfected her craft to this degree. Any yet she considered her drumming first, then singing second.
