And yet she was very modest about it. I don't think she ever believed how special she was, which is why she literally made herself smaller and smaller until there was nothing left.
I remember when The Carpenters first came on the scene when I was in my mid-teens...When Karen was taken from us , a part of us all died that day... I still listen to the Carpenters from time to time and think of Karen and her beautiful voice and sometimes I will let a few tears fall as I listen to her singing... Shawn and Mel, great reaction and thank you for sharing this beautiful voice with us again... I know you love her as much as we do...R.I.P. Sweet angel...
A very vivid memory....I was 14, at my friend Tammy's house, and we were lying on the floor at night, watching TV. Her mom was in the recliner behind us. I don't remember what TV show we were watching, but a news break came on with Karen Carpenter's picture. The newscaster announced, "In breaking news: Singer Karen Carpenter has died. She was 32." Tammy and I and her mother all gasped and looked at each other in equal horror. We were literally speechless. When Karen died, it was a huge shock, and it seemed like people all over the world collectively shared the pain. Nobody has forgotten her. The only good that came of it was raising awareness about anorexia nervosa, which wasn't understood as well then, as it is now. May God help all people with this condition; it is an insidious disease that hangs on to you and doesn't let go. Rest in peace Karen. Thank you for your incredible voice and your dedication in sharing it with all of us.
Wow, it gets no better than Karen Carpenter. One of these best vocals I've ever heard. I remember this song come out in 1973 - I was 9 years old. It don't get any better than The Carpenters. Thanks for playing that song.
YOU two are the best in this kind of show...your love for each other is infectious and your reactions to the songs very charming...god bless from Vincent in Australia.
Her voice (hearing it now) makes me want to cry. "We've Only Just Begun" was out in 1970 - the year we got married. Yes the Vietnam War pushed us to grow up fast.
I'm 23yo from Philippines...this was the song that introduces me to Karen when i was 10yrs old...in my childhood, this woman voice haunted me everytime....i'm glad that we had this hightech media now, because i'm so obssessed that i got into the life of the Carpenters...i searched all details, watched their concerts and interviews in youtube, and had chance to see this face of my woman who haunted me for 13yrs until now to be exact...Karen is my angel and my lady...a little bit tomboy for her ..this is the kind of a voice that you will treasure for the rest of your life.
I grew up listening to the Carpenters. I was but 17 when Karen left us. This song still touches me and moves me to tears. She is now one of those yesterday voices forever!
So not surprised they made a song about listening to those classic songs on the radio, really, the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s had the best music that you remember listening to on AM radio ( especially the 60’s and 70’s ) , and the Carpenters were a big part of those times and those songs.
Absolutely adore Karen, but sometimes it can be difficult to listen to their songs especially if you know her history. She was so beautiful, and her voice just made you fall more in love with her. This is one of the songs that makes me tear up every time, the other is "Rainy Days and Mondays". Thank you for reacting to The Carpenters again.
Im with ya karen...just listening to you brings back so many memories and😢. It was in the 70s, that *We've only just begun* was our graduation song. I have been a fan every since
My 2nd fav song by The Carpenters, Superstar my 1st. Just love the photo of Karen behind you, also my fav shot of her, she looked great & her voice was hauntingly beautiful.❤
Karen Carsten has such a beautiful, unique voice. She did just sing, and you did feel hypnotised. No auto-tune or studio effects. Just a pure voice with perfect, magical technique.
THAT VOICE ! UNFORGETTABLE.----- FROM THE SUMMER OF '73, AS THE OLDIES OF THE 50'[S & 60'S WERE MAKING A HUGE COMEBACK, RICHARD & LYRICIST JOHN BETTIS PENNED THIS MASTERPIECE. -------------MJL, 77 Y/O
Love you guys. I believe Richard wrote this song. Karen also sang the female harmony in all her songs, including this one. Her clear voice, enunciation, and her pure low alto sound....singing to you.....haunting and beautiful. God-given talent. The 70s was so rich in talent, yet KC's voice was praised by all. 3 (or 4 ?) Grammys. She was in the grip of anorexia for years., dead at 32. RIP to singing talent, probably never to be repeated again.
Back in 1971, I managed to graduate HS and the Carpenter’s song; “We Only Just Begun” was our senior song. I’ve been a fan ever since then. Brings back so many memories as I listen. Thx for bringing me back to my youth.
Thanks to you both for an enjoyable reaction to the Angelic Voice of Karen. Now for an introduction to another Angelic Female voice, Annie Haslam lead singer of the unique, pioneering Symphonic Rock Band from the 70s Renaissance. Suggestion for a first reaction 'Things I Don't Understand' (Remastered) from 1974, a Voice from the Heavens😇❤
The song was written by Richard Carpenter and John Bettis. In 1973, there was a blooming nostalgia for the late 1950s and early '60s."American Graffiti" had been a big hit movie, Elton John had his first Billboard #1 with "Crocodile Rock", The Beach Boys "Endless Summer" hit #1 on the Album charts and this was one of the biggest worldwide hits that summer. Treat yourselves and listen to the entire "now andThen" album.
Hi guys, this is so refreshing watching you appreciate good music! Judging by the background photos, you really know your music and have a superb taste. I have so many favourites: Tina Turner, Kate Bush, Prince, The Carpenters, Linda Ronstadt, even Taylor Swift....music can move and soothe you. It's the most beautiful gift. Love you guys ❤
Thank you for this! I grew up listening to The Carpenters. I was glad to see that you have already listened to the AMAZING duet featuring Karen Carpenter and Ella Fitzgerald. I would like to request "Annies Song," by John Denver, if you haven't reviewed it (I am still a fairly new subscriber, so I am not sure)---beautiful arrangement and lyrics! Keep up the awesome work! I love watching your reactions!
Hi Shawn, and the ever so beautiful Mel. Y'all should react to Penny McClean Lady Bump. She was originally part of the Silver Convention. For a skinny red headed Austrian lady, she got some lungs on her. It'll take Y'all back to the Disco Era 1975/1976 they was playing this all over the radio in New York back in the day. It would be great to hear, and see what Y'all think about it. Sending blessings to you, and your family. ❤️
FROM THAT LONG AGO, SUMMER OF '73, AS THE OLDIES REVIVAL WAS HUGE, & " AMERICAN GRAFFITI " WAS A MONSTER HIT AT THE MOVIES, RICHARD, & HIS LYRICIST JOHN BETTIS CREATED THE PERFECT SUMMER SONG FOR THOS OF US WHO GREW UP IN THE 50'S & 60'S, TO REMINISCE TO, ONCE MORE. -------REMEMBER, ALL VOICES ARE RICJH & KAREN, OVER-DUBBING THEIR OWN VOICES FROM 2 TO 8. ---------ONSTAGE, THEY HAD 4 VOICES WITH WHICH TO HARMONIZE. ------------MJL, 77 Y/O
Love your channel. May I suggest exploring the progressive rock band YES, starting with The Yes Album with "Starship Trooper" followed by "Yours Is No Disgrace"
No one can say one bad thing about Karen's voice! There's no way you could. The best female voice that ever existed!
I wouldn't say the best ever, but one of the most unique.
@@calme-dx2dp Maybe the best in her style/range... There's so many great and unique female singers, it's not fair to say she's the best "ever".
@@ffjsb exactly
Why not? SOMEBODY has to be the best.😊
@@richruksenas5992 why...who would be the judge of who's the best? No one HAS to be the best. That would be totally subjective.
Musicians from all genre’s have paid their respect to Karen and her magnificent talent. She was a gift to us all. RIP Karen.
And yet she was very modest about it. I don't think she ever believed how special she was, which is why she literally made herself smaller and smaller until there was nothing left.
And being one of the best singing drummers
There will never be another. Karen Carpenter. She had a one-of-a-kind voice. She can sing the phone book and sound good. May she rest in peace 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Any words to describe Karens voice are just inadequate. Truly the voice of an angel ❤❤❤❤
Karens voice is so rich and hauntingly beautiful and she pours such emotion into the songs.❤❤

This is the greatest Carpenter song of all their great hits. It brings tears to my eyes.
Agreed!!!
Great yes, but not the best one IMHO.
A brilliant song written by John Bettis and brother Richard! Beautifully sung, as usual by Karen, who had the best female voice in all history IMHO.
Her words are distinct and her voice is clear and soothing.A gifted artiste gone too soon
When Karen Carpenter passed away it was an end of an era but the Carpenters music still lives on rip Karen Carpenter
Wow, it gets no better than Karen Carpenter. One of these best vocals I've ever heard. I remember this song come out in 1973 - I was 9 years old. It don't get any better than The Carpenters. Thanks for playing that song.

So well said.
One of the most amazing voices ever! 3:58
The ultimate vocalist who sang to us and not at us and whose voice was and is therapy for the soul.. SO SO NEEDED in our world today..
Love Karen and her epic voice!
I believe that Karen is the lead singer in the choir in Heaven. I love all the Carpenters songs.
Her voice (hearing it now) makes me want to cry. "We've Only Just Begun" was out in 1970 - the year we got married. Yes the Vietnam War pushed us to grow up fast.
Just loved the Carpenters Karens voice was perfection and she is very much missed xxx
She has a lower female voice and her classical trained pianist brother, Richard, knew the perfect key to write songs to fit her vocal range.
You'll never see another brother/sister "pop" duo with that amount of talent again.
Beautiful Karen.
beautiful voice once more
I bet Karen played the drums. She a Great drummer too.😊😊😮
Karen Carpenter simply is the greatest female "pop" vocalist to ever walk on this planet. It's such a sad shame we only had her for a short time. 😥
Karen was an angel on Earth...I love your reaction guys..!!
Angelic voice…and she was an amazing drummer
In case you didn't know, they did all the parts, layering the vocals...a Carpenters choir!
Love me some Carpenters!!!
A sign of good music is when it goes to your heart and causes goosebumps and tears. Carpenters' songs always do this to me!
A great song from the greatest singer ever ❤
S & M , ❤️your reactions to the songs of my youth…the magnificent 60’s and 70’s🔥.
You are so right about Karen. You two are the best, keep up the good work ❤

"So much has changed." Indeed it has. My favorite song by The Carpenters - smiling through tears. Thank you both for your beautiful reaction!
WOW, Ms. Carpenter's outstanding voice isn't one in a million, it's one in a lifetime!.
Absolutely adore Karen, but sometimes it can be difficult to listen to their songs especially if you know her history. She was so beautiful, and her voice just made you fall more in love with her. It is always sad how some of the most naturally talented people are so tortured.
