- Having fun on my fretless Hammersmith M4 with some funky grooves & a Boss OC-2 octaver :) I recorded the bass with the DI out on my Eich T-1000 head straight into my audio interface & made the drums with midi drum pads & Addictive Drums software. Thanks for watching!

Every single thing about this is phenomenal. But can we all just take a second to acknowledge the legendary right hand technique I don't think I've ever seen anything like it
Its almost like a tremolo
At first i thought he was slapping
God tier, man. I was more transfixed by his right hand than his left.
That. B davie 504!!..
Ever finger pick on q guitar it's the same from what I see
Him: I'm so worried that I'll never find a unique sound to stand out from the crowd..
Friend: Don't fret, I'm sure yo--
Him: THAT'S IT!
fretn't
frerf
Oh, stop it! A pun isn't mature, until it's fully groan!🙄
@@achaille9110 hahaha that's the funniest response to a pun I've ever heard. Imma use that for the rest of my life bet on that 😂😂
@@ThatPunkYT- Lol! Glad you liked it. It was a recent acquisition. But, I liked it so much, I've gripped it with all my might 😁
That guy who stole his frets probably feels stupid now.
Lmao
Quality comment
that is funny he is amazing...
It was Primus for green naugahyde!
Haha!
That bassline was so dirty that I had to take a shower after listening, props to you!
What did you thought when you clicked on this video. He plays a fretless bass, of course its going to be dirty.
I've been practicing this guy's finger picking technique for the past two days, and MAN it's hard. Been a bass player for 15 years but never done the whole thumb/index hard picking thing he does. Wonder how long it took for him to build up enough strength and muscle memory.
I hear you. I settled for thumb and all four finger strumming.
it's not all technique, it's also what he's comfortable with and just having fun
He's not just thumbing and forefingering. He's muting a lot of notes with back of his right hand. His dynamics are impeccable. There may be some effects on the signal but, he's playing so fast, it's hard to tell.
I wonder what the brand name is on the bass.
I've got a 5 string, fretless, Ibanez piezo bass. I'm not as fast but, with compression and chorus, it sounds ultra cool.
He may have been a guitar player. When I picked up the bass, as a guitar player I wanted to use my thumb and fingers in a manner similar to this but I taught myself to use my plucking hand the traditional bass player way.I still find myself reverting to the guitar way sometimes. Muscle memory fades slowly.
Same.
I don't see enough comments about this guy's fantastic intonation on a fretless. I've been playing for over 20 years and recently starting getting into fretless, really makes me appreciate the ability to play these complex riffs and stay in tune the entire time.
Hopefully not to take anything away from his incredible skill, but is this more impressive than a skilled player of a violin, cello, double bass or any other fretless instrument? I'm genuinely asking, I don't play an instrument.
No. It all comes down to muscle memory and a lot of practice. He is using all the same techniques with his hand that a violin/viola/cello/bass player would use, where his thumb is his 'anchor' and he is going in between many different positions on the neck of the instrument.
One difference being that his hands will tend to move over a greater distance than a cellist or violinist , so there's inherently a greater window for error for the average song. The fingerboard of a violinist is going to be like 1/3 the size of this, and the average playing range is about 1/4. This does two things. Firstly, the violin requires more finger precision, because the keys are going to be compacted, so moving your finger an inch up or down with change the note much more on the violin than the base. But, because everything's closer together, you don't have to jump your hand around as much, and it's easier to plan out your incremental movements than those big slides and big jumps. So it's a balance. Which one is harder? Hard to say for sure, but tonal shifts of the scale that are occurring in what here is a fun little piece for the bassist would be significantly more difficult on a cello, and shifts w/ precision that are fairly rudimentary on a cello or violin would be much more difficult on this bass. I use Cello because tonally it's a closer corollary to a bass guitar than a violin is, it's basically got the same strings, A/D/G/C, but the violin has a different setup, E/A/D/G. That looks similar, but it's like the difference between a female alto or soprano singer, and a male bass singer. Some overlap, but different enough that their parts are decidedly different.
Cello is a good comparison, because you turn it sideways, and CE-LLLO you've got a bass.
complex?
Any guy who can smack on a fretless like this deserves all the credit he gets. I love it.
This dude is *SO POWERFUL* he isn't actually playing. He is just waving his hands and the bass is so impressed by his immaculate aura _it just plays itself._ (Jk of course this guy is an absolute legend)
Lol I had a buddy that said Gillete was gonna make a Mach20 Turbo razor that didnt even have to touch your face. The hairs just got scared and jumped off. Brought me back 🍺
I got a blister on my thumb just from watching this. Amazing playing!!!
Blister?? What are those? Lol
That ain't workin'! That's the way you do it. Get your money for nothing, and your chicks for free.
@@musketeerash Stop commenting on youtube vids! We got to move these refrigerators, and i think a few color t.v's
Well those are smooth strings so thats gonna decrease it
@@TeaTheSecond clearly never played any string style instrument
Don't you ever feel like on UA-cam there is so much music being recorded, like this, but will never be. I feel like it is somehow wasted. This should be a single and be on spotify and all digital platforms
What a crazy fingerstyle, I’ve never seen anything like it. Outstanding
Watch bluegrass you'll see that fingerpicking all day
That is kind of what guitar players do when they pick up a bass and cant really alternate their index and middle fingers to in order to pluck.
Mark Knopfler plays similarly on guitar
@@anidemolimacnauj The thing is, this guy uses the middle finger in some riffs too. He can play pretty god damn fast, unlike the aforementioned guitarists
I think the idea of that playing is so that he can more easily get muted notes without using his left hand
Having played bass for over 20 years myself, your grooves just make me so fucking happy. And this is coming from a die-hard metalhead.
Yeah. The fact that you're a metalhead totally makes your opinion matter more.
@@haha10349 Bruh, he obviously is saying that as a metal head who doesn’t like funk music, he enjoys Remco’s grooves.
add distortion to this and you got groove metal
@@haha10349 Yeah. And the fact that you're a condescending, sarcastic asshole makes your comment funny, apparently.
That's some damn fine buttery smoothness!
Speaking as a violist of about 8 years, we all (most of us) start learning with finger tapes. Its essentially tape on frets. Youll see them alot on beginner players or just some people who struggle with intonation. After about 1-2 years, or however long the player needs, we take them off. We’re not just fretless and free day one.
Agree with you here. I've been playing cello for almost six years, and we all outgrow the need for finger tapes because we're so used to playing the notes that we don't need to look at the instrument to find them. We just know.
Ew a viola. Play the violin
Wolf Eye I play guitar mostly these days lol
I wonder what beginner trombonists do?
I don't play any string instrument but I'm gonna use this information to impress my friends in the next hangout. Someday after the pandemic is over. Maybe.
I sat for for five minutes nodding my head up and down my wife finally says, “ are you ok”?..........to which I replied “oh yea never been better”! Remco Rocks!
Haha I've just done the same! It's rare I get into the groove on UA-cam videos but this got serious goooove!
Fantastic! Reminds of Les Claypool’s playing in Primus.
It's different style, but, yes, both of them unique.
Wow! Considering this was a fretless bass video you'd expect to be paying attention to his left hand.
I couldn't keep my eyes off his right hand. That is some seriously good plucking going on. Well done.
Toe Jam and Earl riffs. Plant Funkotron!
Glad I wasn't the only one hearing that shit!
Fuck ya
This is some of the sickest bass playing on Planet Earth, and one of the most unique playing techniques that I’ve ever seen!!
Im starting to wonder if I'm in the band because I've got a van.
Can I be in your band I play the kazoo
i wanna join i have a recorder
can I join, I play the harmonica
@@phillipanselmo8540 OK, but you can tell Steven Tyler he is out.
You've got a van? I play the triangle.
How can someone dislike this video. They must be jealous of his awesome playing
0:23 reminds me of something you'd hear on "How It's Made"
wayniac917 lmfao why is that so true?! I wanna watch that show now
lmfao
LMFAOLOLOL spot on dude
FUCK
Lmfao 😂
Were you a classical guitar player in a past life? That right hand technique is unusual among bass players. I find myself both surprised and impressed at how well it works.
Those dreads must give him the power to play, I just know it!
This bro is legendary. Dude's slapping with his fingers!
That's not Slap...
The real Slap is only for Davie504😎
Maged&Sultan Flogs while you are right in saying this is not slap, what you said is equally stupid
Davie503 also, hi bootleg
Slap LIKE now!?
@@gub4941 I mean...I'd get it if he said Victor Wooten...or Marcus Miller...But Davie504? 🤦♂️
Eu amo quando o UA-cam me indica coisas boas para se ver!
É raro, mas às vezes vem uma coisas boas! Ahaha
The thumb down votes are only showing great respect for his thumb work because it points down when he plays. That's all. Not dislikes.
ahahahah
hes murderous with that finger picking technique
Can you put the tabs?
Oh wait...

Mélodie, groove, nervosité, style, phrasé, technique... Tout y est ! Un des meilleurs avec Miki Santamaria ! 👍
Fascinating right-hand technique. I need to watch this 50 times.
Hamilton Mays I actually use this in addition to using three finger plucking I learned it from a guitarist who forgot his pick at a jazz club.
Yeah the thunb in there is very interesting
That's how I play as well , for me it was mostly because I taught myself how to play on an acoustic bass while sitting down so it was the most comfortable way to play, and I don't have any trouble playing at speed
I came, I listened, I subscribed.
I came, I listened, I came again
#meToo
This man is crazy... he has a fucking talent
LIAR!
I could listen to this all day....infact, I think I will :D
20 years of bass playing and i've never seen someone play like this. Just incredible.
His right hand technique is unique. His phrasing is infectious and really sounds articulated; again, it's his right hand technique that makes things happen. I like it!
This reminds me of playing some kind of Sega Mega Drive game like Road Rash or something. Which is a good thing!
Sonic !!
Yeah it's Sound's like Road Rash 3
Road Rash....happy days!!!
This is the most beautiful bass sound I have heard so far.
I've never had more fun messing around with the playback speeds as I did this video. Awesome shit. Thanks.
I always make an effort to give a thumbs up and a positive write up if someone is real good at what they do.
You took time out to entertain us and show us proficiency and dexterity in your field so the least we can do is say thank you!
not to mention that it was definitely not a waste of time to have encountered and clicked on this video randomly on the recommendations!!
the secret is you must put spaghetti on top of your head...
This is the best technique to slap on a fretless. No thumbing on the strings that can scratch the neck.
It's such a joy listening, and even just watching him play. Just amazing..and you can see he's having fun
So Funky. My Funkometer is off the chart!
Now learning how to play a bass, I didn't need to see this. I just hope one day I will be half as good.
Half? Your aiming to high
Or, you needed to. Let this be your inspiration, and allow yourself to aim high! Good luck with your playing, bass is a lot of fun!
Don't let this discourage you , there will always another predecessor. Just learn your own ways and form a style 💪🏼💯
Good god. The groove is unstoppable.
Red Hot Chili Peppers vibe and even Rage Against Machine.
Primus more like
Neither.
KoRn Fieldy Bass Grooves
How about all of the above?
I see how you thought rage against machine from the blonde dreads
1.25 speed is amazing! real funk!
Nice shit right here

Try 1.75,, sounds like primus and flea had baby
never seen a plucking style like this guy had been doing. funky af. sounds amazing!!! 👍😄
The fretless sliding makes your funk all the more sic'r
You make something that seems so complicated seem so free. Love the groove and watching you play. Ty
Aside from fantastic grooves being laid down, I stand in awe of insane technical skills so effectively demonstrated here! Incredible stuff!
Can't imagine why anyone would thumbs-down this.
THIS IS CREAMY GOODNESS😎

Now that’s how a bass should be played. No pick but all funky.
He sold his head to the devil to play like this!
Nah, just his frets
Tone is killing all the whales in the sea... Such fat,low sounds, its beautiful
His right hand technique is amazing! And he surely can rock an octeve pedal on a fretless
Aight, Jaco. That's stuff was so funky I need a shower.
And now I want to buy a fretless bass.
Just get a cheap bass from the pawn shop and tear the frets out!
Get something like harley benton fretless, good quality for price
I had one and while fun it REALLY SUCKS when you can't nail the notes 100% on the money and other instruments are playing lol.
Get one of those Squier Vintage Modified fretless basses.
I had one and for the price, it's a really solid bass!
super cool
Haven't listened in so so long...coming back.
Now that's groovy!! 😎👍👍
Sir... you are a *Wizard*
Man this is too funky somebody open a window this will be my walking into the gym song .
Makes me wanna get drunk at a corn maze

Licker? I hardly know er!
Lmao
This comment thread is why I love the internet
Great post thank you for sharing I have a bass I bought new in 1980 and played for all my youth never could play like that
Fretless sounds so pure.
The fattest string is only a spectator, and this fat string were really impressed by all this other strings that had so much to say, I mean anyone can see that! The saying: Silence is gold shows its purpose here! Thank you for showing us that Silver has its place, its value and appreciation too! : ) Very well done, thank you for sharing it!
Over 300 thumbs down? That's a lot of ex girlfriends 😎👍love your videos
Lol

A big f*ckin' smile on my face for seven minutes long. Thanks Remco!
I think there's something wrong with you if this pure groovy magic doesn't make you smile!
Dude your an insane talent, seriously
Now don’t let that go to your head
dude your right hand technique on those fast staccatos, thats awesome... imma have to try it
One does not simply know how to play a bass like this unless they know something about playing a bass like this.
I can't imagine how much time he's spent playing to know exactly where notes are.
The great Jaco Pastorius would approve
Steve F les claypool would do so
Amazing. Awesome fingerpicking, I just witnessed something extraordinary. WOW
That’s IT!!! I’m taking up the tambourine!!! … This is pure AWESOMENESS!!!!!
Mother plucker! This guy is good!
Corey Brown god damnit
I keep coming back coz this mad skill bass sends me to a great place.......love it bro

How the heck can there even be one thumb down ? people suck ! Dudes, this guy is a great Player ! Bravo man keep up the fantastic artful riffs ! Cheers mate.
Jealous Assholes. People who cant play. Losers.

1/16 note madness! Man this guy is slamming
Man that is by far one of the coolest compositions I've ever heard well done my man extremely well done indeed! 😊
That's it I'm ripping all my frets off then I'll prob play it for a min then leave it untouched for another 10 years

You might be right.
I think its the good weed that makes him play like this....
No, he came out of the spaceship like this.
Hmm not sure ... better listen to it another time to check :P
Likely...
I'm intimidated by this guy's playing, and I don't even own an instrument.
Fletless and flawless.
This is amazing. As a fretless bass player of no small number of years, your mastery is amazing. Watching that picking style is just the cherry on the cake!
This song should be called "Jerry Was a WRC car Driver" :D
Just as there is the game "Guitar Heroes" there should be another game called "Bass Masters"🤔
The first bass player that come with a floor mop function
Insanely funky
DAAAAAAMN!! HOLY SHIT! That is by far the best thing i have seen in a long while. ranks in my top 5 bass clips i have ever seen on here, not just because he is a sick bass player, he's going at it for 6 minutes straight and didnt let up for a second. I haven't heard anything that sounds unique for a while. I like his style.
How can anyone give this guy a thumbs down? That was sweet dude. 😁
His technique is so good and unique. This guy is on GOD level mode. More power maaan really nice grooves
You sir, are one badass.
Properly played fretless funk...good for the soul
