For those who are wondering the story behind the ride is the fairy-tale ''die sieben schwaben''. Its about 7 guys who travel around with a giant spear (the same spear the train is modeled after and which you are ''carrying'''') and one morning one of them is woken up by a loud noise while a other one smells gunpowder and burning. One of them tries to flees and climbs over a fence and gets hit in the face with a rake, the other ones surrender but to no avail. They see a pair of ears and decide to grab the spear to kill what they suspect is a dragon. Then they argue over who will go in the front, one of them steps up and they attack. But then the guy on the front notices that it was a hare all along. And of course because it is a fairy tale they all drown in a lake after the whole ordeal.
Thanks for summarizing the whole story. I made the note that the rabbid wasn't talking on the Tripsdrill video and knew a bit about this story but tbh I never knew all of it 😀
I ended up preferring this to the b&m inverts I've done, you feel so ridiculously open on those trains and I did feel those airtime moments. Somehow in my top 10, well done vekoma!
Just came back from Tripsdrill and I agree, this ride is amazing! Probably the smoothest coaster I've ever ridden. Btw: Did anyone else notice that this is technically a swinging coaster? The seats are able to rotate slightly which makes this ride so smooth.
not really. the amount they move is minimal. it's simply a suspension mechanism. you wouldn't call a car a bouncing vehicle. also inverts without suspension also "swing" a little because the metal bends slightly. It's imposible to see but the resulting stress onto the welds are the reason to build the trains like here with the suspension
One thing I really love about this model compared to B&M inverts is just how much more open the seats are! As great as B&M inverts are, the views you get from most of the seats are kind of restrictive. Also, the combo of this and the family boomerang is fantastic. This combo is the kind of thing that could put a smaller park on the map!
I don't know if many just take that for granted and so it is not mentioned so often (Maybe Taylor is just too young ;-)) but to me the best rollercoasters development of the last years (time flies, probably I have to say "last 20 years") is the improvement in seating comfort and restrains, and even without riding this to me the best improvement comparing to old SLCs: *No over-the-shoulder restrains!* I grew up in Germany in the 90s. Rollercoasters were family rides and Vekomas. I actually connected roller coasters with: You are cramped in a small car, going in and out is often hard, you hurt your knees, you have a strange loose restrains, etc. The first modern coaster then was Expedition GeGeforce in 2001 and: Wow, what a new experience! Nice seating, free knees, easy go in and out, ergonomic lap bar. And the next year Silver Star: OMG! Sitting like in a seat of a sports car, freedom all around, I can stretch out my legs! And inversion coasters in the 90s were old Vekoma here, that's it. So you are whirling around, quite rattling, and to make it worse: Over-The-Shoulder restrains.. So I never was a fan of inversion coasters. And a personal problem when I grew up: I am 6"7. Here in Germany practically all coasters with OTSRs are max 6"5, so I am not even allowed to ride these. Meanwhile I accept that, in the past I cheated, made me smaller, and tried it and ride operators mostly ignored it in the moment I sit in the coaster. But it was very uncofortable of course. My worst experience was a Vekoma Boomerang... And then Blue Fire opened, and again: Wow! A great seating similar to an B&M Hypercoaster - but with inversions! How is that even possible! I know many enthusiast think that BlueFire is lame, but it has a special place in my heart because it made me like coaster with inversions again - and made them possible for me to eve ride them "legally". So great to see that it meanwhile becomes more and more normal that inversion coasters don't necessarily need OTSR. And if they do they also are improved, the soft vest-style of F.L.Y. worked fine.
I loved HUK, moreso even than several B&M inverts (but not all of them) - it's not remotely intense but the smoothness and airtime from an inverted coaster made it effortlessly rerideable and just great fun. Two-train ops when we visited so wait times were reasonable, we managed eight rides on a normal day alongside all the other attractions at the park. Honestly one of my biggest surprises of this year how much I enjoyed it
I mean in terms of the layout and forces this ride is just a really good example of a European "thrill" coaster. Like this ride is basically the flagship at Tripsdrill now, and is meant to be a crowdpleaser, being big and wild enough to intimidate the public, but also not so intense it scares them off and doesn't maek them wanna reride, all while still pleasing the thrill seekers in the minority. I mean its an extreme ride in the European eye the same way something like Ice Breaker at Sea World Orlando would be. We just have the bar a little lower in general and aren't as intensity focused.
As somebody who went to that park just last week, I think your review is spot on word for word with only one exception, I don't think the back is shaky. we mostly rode in the second to last row, we didn't found it to be shaky and liked it better than the second row because it just felt way more forceful. Maybe there's a rattle in the very last row, but if so then really just there, I think. But otherwise like you said, Vekoma created a great family coaster that fits into the park perfectly.
was there last year and the last row was a lot better then the second to last row. the airtime was good instead of slightly noticable. which makes for an very good allround expierience in my opinion
I’ve been on this ride 275 times. And there are two trains, one is more shakey, the other one less. Spoke to the operator on that opinion, they agreed. But it’s a great coaster anyway.
Hals über Kopf is a great ride, I rode it 1 week after opening and it briefly became my #1. In 2021 it wasn't quite as good and the ride was fairly shaky, I hope they fix this issue for later installation.
It is a fun ride exactly as you describe--not intense and a great transition ride for young people / families looking to decide if they want to ride more intense coasters. The line was longer the day I was there (only 1 train too). A huge improvement for Vekoma that may surpass with time the B&Ms--we shall see.
I was there yesterday and the park was almost empty, got 10 rides on Hals über Kopf and gotta say the back is definitely the best, it has the best forces, even a bit airtime on the first drop, its no way shaky. The front row didnt impress me that much. It was so quiet there that I could stay seated after the ride was over. Had a little chat with the operator while waiting for more people so that the train has at least 4 people to go.
Rode it yesterday also 10 times thanks for the single rider line and I actually enjoyed the front row more. The front row takes the inversions better than the back and I didn't notice a difference between the airtime in the front and the back row. In the front row is also nothing blocking your view
2:08 Yóu have to experience when the ride is really warmed up. We drove it 3 Times Yesterday. The First two: No Airtime. The last one around 17:15 (sunny day) Real great Airtime in each of the bunny hops!
The theme of the ride ist about the swabian farytale "Die sieben Schwaben/The seven swabians". (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Seven_Swabians) It is basically about 7 "adventurers" who end up being afraid of a "monster", that turns out to be a rabbit. The station is themed as a tavern from which the 7 Swabians set off on their adventure. The voices in the braking area are not the rabbit but the Swabians who are amused to have been afraid of a hare. It is a somewhat strange story for strangers. I was in Tripsdrill 2 times since the opening and the line was not very long at both times. One time was just a few days ago, on a weekday that was anounced to be rainy, it was very empty that day. We got 8 rides on HüK, 6 on Karacho and 3 on Mamut (bach to back rides) after that is was quite enougth, considering how rough it is running. Volldampf is themed to the folk song "Auf de schwäbsche Eisebahne/On the swabian Railway". The station reasembles a train station. The song is about a farmer who ties his billy goat to the railway wagon so that the animal will run after the moving wagon, but at the next stop he only finds the animal's severed head and angrily throws it at the conductor. Tripsdrill has made the story a little less brutal by having the billy goat cling to the last wagon.
I know this doesn't compare to your typical B&M Invert, but I can imagine it still being very similar to Monster at Gröna Lund, as that one is more about flow and variety than forces. It even has an airtime hill. I look forward to seeing more of these. I do believe Tayto Park in Ireland is to get one soon!
Yeah IIRC then Tayto park, now Emerald park, is getting an exact clone of this combo package with the STC and Boomerang. So this is probably an off the shelf package they're offering to parks great and small now as like a "Get 2 coasters at a discount" kinda deal. I mean Vekoma has been known for making ride packages, like how Fårup Sommerland got Fønix and Saven in the same deal with Vekoma.
@@drdewott9154 I do believe that Emerald Park got it in a package, but Fårup didn't, according to the CEO. I can't wait to see Emerald park grow, though!
I have a feeling this won't become as common as the SLC. The invert concept is somewhat of a 90s fad. The main problem of them is how they limit your view unless you're in the very front. Still, I hope to see more of the "new" vekoma models in the US.
I think these have the potential to kick off tbh, since a lot of suspended coasters (especially SLC's) will be coming to the end of their lifespan over the coming decade. I think most parks would choose to replace them with a new suspended coaster, since it's such a classic style of ride and this could be a pretty good deal for cost/quality.
A suspended coaster is something you don’t realize you’ll miss until it’s gone. My home park in Kings Dominion and Volcano’s closer left a huge gap in their lineup without an off the track ride. If Cedar Fair isn’t going to work with Intamin for the time being, they should atleast consider working with Vekoma.
I liked it for what it is. It is indeed somewhere between a family and a thrill coaster. The ride is very smooth. Luckily for me, it was a calm day and every ride of the park was a walk on.
I found this coaster actually quite forceful. Sure its not Black mamba but definitely not weak. I also got some airtime in the back so idk, maybe you rode it on a bad day, or are just more used to B&M's. It somehow made it in my best 15 and I preferred it to Karacho. Love the train design and look like actual backpacks.
I'd actually like them to do a SLC layout with the new tracks and trains. I feel like SLC's have a pretty decent layout, they are just not enjoyable because of the extreme roughness.
I know they haven't even finished ArieForceOne yet, but building something like this to be the full round off of 3 coasters would be perfect in the future for Fun Spot Atlanta. However, I'd hope they don't announce that next year only because the Orlando park is overdue for a coaster-even if it's "family" it could be one of those new log flume+coaster packages some could be getting too. I'd much rather ride this but I definitely need to give "Riddler's Revenge" another try, the new seats may not make it "re-rideable" but it works out well enough to experience the extreme layout without coming off feeling like you were beat up by angry mob lol.
This is a good in-between with family and thrill. Definitely not a super intense experience but more of suspended family coaster with inversions. I feel like it's like Ice Breaker in a way how it's like a little more than family but not quite full thrill. This would work great at so many parks in America.
I think the ride is absolutely amazing. Is it particularly intense? Not really, but it feels great, super smooth, has some fun elements, lap bars, I like how interconnected it is with the other ride too. Compared to Vekoma's SLC's, this is a huge improvement. You would almost not think that it's Vekoma who built that.
Hey buddy i egee with you that place is great and so awesome 👍 i never been there before but it looks like so much fun. Take care and stay safe my friend.
Very cool stuff, I remember going on Flight of the Pterosaur at Paulton's Park a long time ago and that ended up being my favourite coaster in the park. This just looks like a better version of that!
Dragon Flier: "I love that I'm smooth but it would be cool to have inversions" SLC: "I love that I have inversions but I wish I was smooth" Hals-über-Kopf: 😎
Next STC that I am aware of is going to Tayto Park in Ireland - it's a clone of this from looking at the plans. That's fine though, Tayto Park is a family park so seeing this investment hopefully means for something with a higher thrill level in a few years, as the younger ones who have experienced the soon to be 5 coasters here have a full graduation from first coaster to thrilling.
They actually never told anyone how much the new coaster (which is the model's prototype, btw) cost, but its said to have cost more than their "Karacho" infinity coaster which cost 7 Million Euros in 2013.
Probably. I mean there has been a fair bit of inflation in the in between years, and either way Gerstlauer is generally well known for having some of the cheapest to build coasters on the western market.
I know it will never happen, but I think it would be really cool to see an STC with the original SLC layout so we could get some of those genuinely creative design choices without the pain.
I think you underrate the coaster. i prefer the back cause you get nice floater on the drop, the inlinetwist and junior immelmann has awesome whip to it. the airtime hills are okay in the back und i really enjoy the whip and hangtime of the zero-g-rolls(especially the second) and the underground turns have some positives. i really enjoy that the ride offers very diffrent froces and i understand that people who prefer airtime on coasters are not that happy about that cause there are hundreds of coasters out there that have more and more intense airtime.
Toverland needs one of these for their next themed area whenever they expand again. An STC with a Family Boomerang just like this would be the perfect next addition in my opinion. Brand new top tier suspended coaster for the Netherlands, 2 new coasters for the park for the whole family, and just like Fenix these coasters can be the centrepiece to a brand new area. I'm guessing after the expansion of Avalon for next year they'll first focus on a hotel/resort, since that has been on their wishlist for a long time.
They switched from using one arrow designed track to another one. This is the suspended coaster track with very minor changes. Idk why arrow didn't use the suspended track for all their rides.
I know you gave The Great Nor'Easter a higher score but your score system isn't about objectively comparing all coasters to each other but more to compare the overall experience to what the park seemed to be aiming for. Would it be correct to say you prefer The Great Nor'Easter over Hals Uber Kopf? I really would like to see more good SLCs done, whether those are conversions of prior trash SLCs or ground up new ones build with new Vekoma track and trains. SLCs really do have a great layout and it's a shame that the execution is generally so bad.
I want your opinion on something: do you think that, instead of tearing out the ride, would it be a good idea to remove SLC track, but simply attach STC components to the supports? Would something like that work?
I think it's forceless because they didn't want to go crazy on a prototype with the right layout I can see this be better than B&M inverts. The restraints and seats are comfortable the pacing is good and you can already see a few great elements like the drop and the 1st zero G roll. I personally got airtime on the ride pretty nice airtime too. This model has potential I hope Vekoma don't mess this up.
Is this something that will be cookie cutter and cloned like their SLC and boomerang models, or do you think they will do more custom layouts with this in the future?
"Hals-Über-Kopf" does not mean headlong. It literally translates to Throat over Head... but as an expression it translates more closely to "head over heels"
Imagine the Schwarzkopf company would still exist. Schwarzkopf rides were the best that existed. Sadly they never done rides with inversions except for loopings.
the STC is supposed to be how it is and not an insane thrill machine it was made to be for the whole family so off it also doesn't have ejector on the airtime hills it wasn't made as the new SLC
Greying out is so confusing. I can find myself to grey out on tame rides like Dæmonen while not even getting close on really forceful rides like Black Mamba. Wtf is wrong with me
Mu biggest problem with this coaster is that the layout is so long. Vekoma should have made this thing so it fits PERFECTLY into an SLC plot. Then it could sell this as a replacement. Not only would parks love to not have "The Worst Coaster in the World" in them, it behooves Vekoma to get the world to forget they ever existed.
Wow. Lol.
Thanks for summarizing the whole story. I made the note that the rabbid wasn't talking on the Tripsdrill video and knew a bit about this story but tbh I never knew all of it 😀
This is the SLC done right. Vekoma has proven they are no longer a company that specializes in trash rides. Kudos to them.
To be fair, the only reason people don't like their old coasters is because they're rough.
@@Zatoka. They also learned coaster building from Arrow Dynamics. Do I even need to say more?

not really. the amount they move is minimal. it's simply a suspension mechanism. you wouldn't call a car a bouncing vehicle. also inverts without suspension also "swing" a little because the metal bends slightly. It's imposible to see but the resulting stress onto the welds are the reason to build the trains like here with the suspension

One is coming to Ireland. I imagine it'll be the same layout as it's also getting paired up with a family boomerang.
0:12 dang Pikachu decided to just give it all up after riding an slc... Just shows how horrific an slc can be
I want to see one of these with the slc layout
They actually never told anyone how much the new coaster (which is the model's prototype, btw) cost, but its said to have cost more than their "Karacho" infinity coaster which cost 7 Million Euros in 2013.
Probably. I mean there has been a fair bit of inflation in the in between years, and either way Gerstlauer is generally well known for having some of the cheapest to build coasters on the western market.
Coaster World, would you recommend this as a start with inverts?
Is not an exact clone or so opening ad that Irish park which is or was (depending on when the sponsorship or so deal ends) open with that boomerang?
1:38 Vekoma SLC's have In Line Twists
I know it will never happen, but I think it would be really cool to see an STC with the original SLC layout so we could get some of those genuinely creative design choices without the pain.
"Wheres the monster, behind the rabbit?" "It is the rabbit!"
10/10 reference
Now which one do you prefer Great Nor Easter at Moreys or the stc
That’d be awesome there!
will u talk about intamin multilaunch coaster new for 2023 on parque warner madrid spain? its already buildt
How does this compare to the Great Nor’easter at Morey’s Piers?
SLCs really do have a great layout and it's a shame that the execution is generally so bad.
there's 5 STC's being sold around the world I have heard. not sure what locations they are going to.
isn’t there one being built in tattoo park ireland
I love how the local storks sit on it and watch the coaster go by and aren't bothered at all - pity they crap all over the ride though
"they pull some forces" *shows silver bullet* i'm just kidding - it's one of my favorites
I want your opinion on something: do you think that, instead of tearing out the ride, would it be a good idea to remove SLC track, but simply attach STC components to the supports? Would something like that work?
Most likely not
Is this identical to the new rides in Emerald Park in ireland? Looks similar and same manufacturer I hear?
its the same type of ride, but will be a different layout
I think it's forceless because they didn't want to go crazy on a prototype with the right layout I can see this be better than B&M inverts. The restraints and seats are comfortable the pacing is good and you can already see a few great elements like the drop and the 1st zero G roll. I personally got airtime on the ride pretty nice airtime too. This model has potential I hope Vekoma don't mess this up.
Emerald park in ireland is getting one of these
Is this something that will be cookie cutter and cloned like their SLC and boomerang models, or do you think they will do more custom layouts with this in the future?
I think they can do both
I actually felt more airtime on HüK than on Fly
But I had only row 5 and 6 Rides (from 6 rides, got really unlucky there)
I would love to see this track used on their SLC clones
It's a fun machine not a thrill machine and I love it for that.
The rabbit is a stablehold in most medieval books with gardens and what not. I'm gonna go ahead think that's why they put it in
I would say Vekoma is the historical successor to Arrow.
Taylor hals über Kopf translates to head over heels in English
I'm guessing suspended coasters can't be as forceful as inverted coasters
I think the Vekoma STC will improve
Curious….my knowledge of German isn’t great, but does this ride’s name translate to “Head over heels”??
Yes
@@CoasterStudios At 4:54 you said it translated to "head long" or "head upside down." Does the name have multiple meanings?
"Hals-Über-Kopf" does not mean headlong. It literally translates to Throat over Head... but as an expression it translates more closely to "head over heels"
The slc layout is actualy pretty good and creative though its sad that they are so good
This just in. Taylor has been removed from the garbage can by Mr. Vekoma himself.
I can see something like this as a replacement for Iron Dragon when Cedar Point decides to remove it.
vekoma really had a glow-up huh?
Imagine the Schwarzkopf company would still exist. Schwarzkopf rides were the best that existed. Sadly they never done rides with inversions except for loopings.
Hals-Uber-Kopf didn't mean up side down.. It means like you do something fast without thinking :)
Vekoma is building better rides nowadays
so they stopped making arrow track
Cedar Point should replace Iron Dragon with one of these
the STC is supposed to be how it is and not an insane thrill machine
it was made to be for the whole family so off it also doesn't have ejector on the airtime hills
it wasn't made as the new SLC
I love how wrong it looks to have lapbars on an invert
Don't you mean:
They are defenetly UNDER the right track?
Throw your tomatoes.
please drink more and get more sleep if you grey out on something tame like HüK
You know there’s something to be said about that… lol
Greying out is so confusing. I can find myself to grey out on tame rides like Dæmonen while not even getting close on really forceful rides like Black Mamba. Wtf is wrong with me
Different people have different intensity tolerances
Mu biggest problem with this coaster is that the layout is so long. Vekoma should have made this thing so it fits PERFECTLY into an SLC plot. Then it could sell this as a replacement. Not only would parks love to not have "The Worst Coaster in the World" in them, it behooves Vekoma to get the world to forget they ever existed.
