Best and simple video review!!!! Thanks for this.
Wow thanks for the compliment. I really appreciate it. Definitely pinning this one 👍🏻
I’ve been researching online and in local stores for about a month. I’ve been idle but I just ordered one because of this review.
One more thing, after buying mines I realize that for the bike doc it’s a 1/4 turn. I broke mine by turning it countless times. Luckily, Kuat is sending me another free of charge.
Picked one up over the weekend - Impressed by the build - the appearance is amazing! Great video.
I have a 2.0 and everything you pointed out is accurate and by far the best rack I have ever owned!!! Well worth the $$.
Really thorough, complete and clear review. I wondered why these are so expensive. Now I can see why. Hint...ditch the annoying background music.
I have the Kuat NV 2.0 for our Gazelle ebikes. We also own a Saris Superclamp EX and a coupe Thule Insta-Gater Pro truck bed racks for when we pull out travel trailer. The Kuat is our favorite go to rack It has extra room between bikes so pedals and kick stands don’t rub. The Saris is a little tighter fit for the bikes. The Kuat ramp accessory is super helpful loading heavier ebikes and is well made like the rack.
Loved your presentation and how easy you made it appear. We just bought the same rack and are loving it!
Just bought one today and pit together, very impressed, nice job on evaluation
Just an FYI...While the rake is rated for 60 lb. bikes, the Trail Doc (per Kuat customer service ) is only rated to 40 lbs. Also the Trail Doc can twist to hold a bike by it's seat post if you don't want to hold the bike by its frame.
By far the most helpful review! Thank you 🙏🙏
I just purchased the NV 2.0. I'll know how to use it now that I watched your video. Thank you for the review!
Just purchased the NV 2.0 today. Haven’t yet installed it but it appears to be a well-designed, robust rack. We’re in the process of acquiring E-bikes; this rack is designed to hold two bikes at 60 lbs. each. Thanks for the video!
Awesome enjoy!!
This rack is the best bicycle accessory that I've ever purchased, it's worth every penny!!
Can it hold by the seat tube, too? Or just the top tube?
The License Plate Adapter is far more valuable in my opinion. I'm sure how close someone would be to the vehicle is they needed to use that holder. But the plate holder might save you from the officer that is a ticket writing machine. I wound suggest the Küat NV Base 2.0 as a better option for most, because they you are not paying for something you might not ever need to use (other than to show off a bit).
I have only had mine for about a week now, but Küat builds a rock solid rack imo. My only caveat might be how close the wheel retainers are suggested to be to the frame, since on rougher terrain the retainer can loosen slightly. This can let the bike jiggle around a bit, and you can sustain some rubbing to your frame (Carbon Frame Set folks be aware). The fix is to strap down the front wheel at the bottom which prevents movement the can push the arm.
Nice video! Used to be an avid cyclist and live in the Spfd. area. I have ridden ALL over. My wife and I just bought ebikes...to try to get back into cycling. Bought a Kuat NV 2.0 to haul them. Great rack!!
Awesome welcome back to biking. I really want an eBike. They are a lot of fun.
My bike has fenders. So how would that work with that clamp that you put over the front wheel? On my bike the fenders would be in the way. Is there a work around for that?
I don’t know that it would work with fenders. It would have to touch the fender.
Great video, thanks for making it. The only thing that would be great would be to have someone film it going down a bumpy road with the bikes on. Ha! I made this comment as you were signing off, didn’t see you added that at the very end 😅
I am currently reviewing their Piston SR if you are looking for a single bike rack. That should be out in the coming weeks.
Looks like great rack. It does block the view of a bumper mounted license plate and in PA that's not legal. Are there any provisions for relocating the license plate to the back of the rack?
Great review/explanation. I just got my Kuat and I learned some things from your video.
wow that's a feature packed rack!!
We just bought this bike carrier today for our 2 E-bikes.
I have owned numerous receiver racks and the best so far is my Kuat Sherpa that is 9 yrs old.
I just bought this rack can’t wait to use it good video
Awesome 😎
Thanks for the review buddy, whats to stop someone stealing the rack? can you lock it into the hitch?
Yes you can use a hitch lock on the NV 2.0
@@RunBikeMike Thank you, just purchased the NV 2.0 woop woop
I really wanted to get the Sherpa but having the option to add more bikes sold me on this
I totally agree
Thanks! Just concerned that the locking mechanism starts scratching the top of the fork. Is that a real situation?
I have had or seen anyone I know with that issue. But you can put it where it won’t touch the fork but will be close it it.
@@RunBikeMike Thanks - that's great news!
Great clear video!
Hey wondering if you can open the tail gate on your ute when this is down with bikes on?
Nice system, I am looking for a 3-4 bike system that would be easy for the wife and teenagers
The nice thing about this rack is the ability to expand this from 2 bikes to 3-4 bikes
Don’t own one yet, but I’m completely sold on it. I can PTFE powder coat my chain before rolling up to bike drop off (Ironman events).
Hi, I just got the Kuat NV 2 and I would like to know how you unlock the bike lock when the time comes.
There is a lock at the end of each tray that has a place for a key. The keys that come with your rack will unlock the cable when you are ready.
With the bikes off and the rack tilted down to the lowest position are you able to put your tailgate down all the way?
On my Tacoma I am able to. On a larger truck I am not sure if it is possible.
I was not able to see your license plate? In my state, there must be a "clear view" of the license plate. How will you be able to overcome this when using your rack, loaded with bicycles?
That is a problem with any hitch rack unfortunately. If this is something they are handing out tickets for where you live I would find a way to mount it to your rack when using it. Kuat doesn’t sell any plate adapters at this time.
I have a fender attached to the fork. Can the hook/clamp be placed on the arch of the fork and the fork compressed slightly when ratcheting the hook into place?
I wouldn’t suggest that. They are designed for holding on to the tire only
Will the holder rotate to hold the seat post if you don't have a cross bar?
Yes it will rotate.
What is the maximum size of tire it will accommodate?
Max of 5” wide
How much does that rack weigh empty?
Around 55lbs
I have a fox 38 fork, which is a little fatter and say a 36. Any issue with the front rubbing the fork when mounted on the rack?
It shouldn’t have any issues with the fork. The rack should only touch the tires.
Will the work station work with a mountain bike? My frame is carbon so I would have to attach to the seat post.
Yes. I recommend always using the seat post and not the frame. So you should be good 👍🏻
Just got the Kuat NV 2.0 but with a 1 & 1/4” receiver because that’s the only hitch i can get. Noticed the receiver & tightening knob are different.. any feedback on that one? i have an eMTB and those can easily reach 50lbs. looks like the 1. 1/4 also rated for 60lbs per bike., hoping that’s true !
The 1.25 is a little different. It does have a different lower end with a different looking knob. The only thing with the 1.25 is you can’t add more racks to it. It is only rated for two bikes 60lbs each.
@@RunBikeMike Awesome Thanks! I bought mine for 2 bikes (my kid bike fist in the trunk of SUV).
Great video which made me buy this very bike rack. Still waiting to pick it up at REI. About the video, I found the background music very distracting. Other than that, good review.
Thanks for the feedback. Enjoy your new rack.
Helpful review! Does the locking bar on the front wheel rub on the forks or frame during transport?
No it sits a safe distance away from the frame and fork.
Are the straps still to short for 4 inch tires or did they change that?
For larger fat tire bikes you will want to pick up their “phat bike kit”. That will allow up to 5” tires.
Can you clamp the front wheel at about 10:30 -11:00 or does it have to be all the way to the fork? Thanks
11 should be fine but the only caution I would use with that is if your tire goes flat during transport. With the clamp close to the fork it is super secure even if your tire goes flat. At 10:30 or 11 it might not be.
I have the same question because the front fender of my ebike extends a couple inches in front of the fork. I took the bike home with the hook on the tire in front of the fender (touching). I am a bit worried about the long term use in this configuration. Would you place the hook on top of the fender near the fork? I just bought the NV2 and a new Ride1Up 700. Any suggestions/work arounds would be great.
@@guyr.croteaulicswcgp7102 , I see no response to your question, I also wonder about this, did you get it resolved?
I've been using the clamp at about 3" away from the front tire fork. I add a Velcro strap for extra (psychological) security. The bikes are rock solid. Love the rack. It's a beast though.
Great review man, thing is a tank
Can the bike stand hold the seat tube as opposed to the top tube?
yes it can hold the seat tube.
@@RunBikeMike bitching.
Did you buy a Kuat rack after watching this video? Reply to this comment and let me know.
I’m wanting one, but my bike is 51.5” long and I’m worried about it being to long. Do you think it would fit fine?
You would be pushing the max on size. Kuat says it will hold up to 50”. I would say if you can find a shop or a friend that has one try your bike on it 1st.
@@RunBikeMike Thank you!
We bought the ramp for it also.
I have the original Sherpa.. i whish i didn't have it so i can buy this one.
The bike work standwould be good for washing your bike at car wash ❤
I took a look at this one but ended up getting a 1Up rack.
1up is awesome too
I am concerned about front fenders.
I would be careful about leaving it on the vehicle where they use road salt or chemicals to melt snow.
👍🏾
"when you take your roadbike out on the trail"... LOL. Why not show your mountain bike on the "tool arm"?
I purchased the newest model - the Piston Pro-X. Fantastic.
What made you go with pro x? I can't decide if to go with nv 2.0 or pay 1.4k more of pro x? I don't know if it's worth the extra money.
@@mnfishing4194 I would go with what your comfortable with. I’m happy with my choice, but for me generally money isn’t a problem thanks to my late wife.
YIKES!! Please Do not clamp your top tube or seat tubes!!! turn the kuat clamp and clamp only the seatpost!
I am not worried on about it on an aluminum frame. I would be worried on a carbon.
@@RunBikeMike why run the risk of scratching the finish?
There is always that possibility. I can see your point.
You imply that the bike is made in the USA, but it is actually made in China.
"not an awkward spot"...put your bikes on it. Kuat needs to fix that with a handle like other top brands have. It is its Achilles heal!
Just a suggestion: write a script and do some research: Powder Coat (know the process-simple), I think they have a solution for small kids bikes (know the facts). Please do the research and answer the questions you raise and be real...the placement of that lever is not close to the best...then send suggestions to them...your here to help us! Good luck.
Thanks for your feedback
@@RunBikeMike in my opinion, you fix those two things and you come across veery amazing and credible...
Ok sounds good
As the owner of the rack, I agree that the tilt lever is not in an awkward spot and it is really easy to use. I have small complaints about the rack, but that lever isn’t one of them.
