My only problem is it seems to easy for someone or to have something bump the buttons to unlock the bike. I’d like to see something locking those paddle’s.
Good catch! I was looking for locks on the paddles too. That's a deal-breaker, even with the cable lock. Too bad, because everything else about that rack seems great.
Great video, you mentioned at the end that it has another way to mount it or another use that you would cover in a future video, but that future video never came out as far as I know.
Thank you for the great review! I have the same bike rack and love and use it all the time as I always ride alone. My ebike has a large wheelbase. Love how super easy is to use all Kuat products
Thank you for this review! I have owned my Kuat sherpa for a few years now, been very pleased with it, however I recently added an ebike to my collection. I need a beefy rack for it. I’m single and don’t need a multi bike rack for ebikes. I was eyeing the Saris MHS but seems like you need a socket wrench to install it. I fall into that niche market, this might be the one!
I have reviewed both and I can say I use the Kuat Piston SR as my personal daily bike rack. It is the easiest to load and unload. It also holds the bikes more still when going down the road.
Hi! I have been searching solo hitch bike racks and couldn’t find many. I own a 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness and had the factory 2” trailer hitch installed. One thing I enjoy is car camping and using the back hatch quite often to get in/ out , cook, etc. Do you think this rack is in the way when the bike is dismounted? I’m sure you can’t open the hatch with the bike on the rack. I think you indicated it has a width of 7 inches from bumper? What is the height of it in the closed position and length? Thanks
I wanted to buy SR. Because I have multiple different vehicles. They don't offer a 2 bike add-on this way. Only if you do roof mount. Which I want hitch 2 bike for suv.
Is Kuat working on a modular system? I have the Piston Pro X still in the box but I’m considering returning it for a One Up because I’d like the ability to switch between one and two bikes but this system looks superior.
Lots of hammering. The bolt is more than likely bent. Mine was just a little. I got it out and straightened it. But mine was new was it wasn’t super bent.
Nice rack. Though it's not suited to Australia. As it is law that number plates and rear vehicle lights need to be visible. So it would require more design features to incorporate such lawful requirements.
Is this sold as a complete kit? When I went to buy it - it looked like I had to buy a 2 inch receiver conversion kit for the Kuat Piston SR Roof rack - I don't want to buy the wrong thing. - Edit - Just ordered it - it was 2 parts - roof rack and hitch adapter. Definitely looks super sturdy!
Mike, I’m trying really hard to sort through this bike rack stuff and, to be honest, I’m struggling to figure out how to contact you directly. So, my message to the world is, will this rack also hold my giant rapid 1 that I’ve ridden 12,000 miles in circles? My Giant Fathom was purchased to make things a little easier on me when I need it. But, I like both. I just need help deciding if this works for both.
You can reach me via Instagram DM or email at AskRunBikeMike@gmail.com. But to address the question above yes it will work for both of those bikes. There are not many bikes this rack won’t hold. I have had road, gravel, mtb, cargo, fat tire ebikes, hybrid bikes on mine.
I have several friends that are running the piston models and haven’t had any issues over the last year. Plus, all the parts are replaceable, and you can buy them on Kuat website
Kashima coat on a bike rack is something I didn’t know I wanted

Here is that video. Kuat IBEX - The Ultimate Overland Bike Rack System

I love this so much more than my 1up racks. I wish this had been available when I bought my camper because the cost is the same.
Thank you for the great review! I have the same bike rack and love and use it all the time as I always ride alone. My ebike has a large wheelbase. Love how super easy is to use all Kuat products
Tail gate or lift gate access? Pretty important if you have a bed topper or SUV.
This is a very thorough review.
Thank you 😊
Kuat makes super nice racks. They seem to have an exclusive deal with whomever owns Kashima. I don’t see any other racks using the bronze coating.

It should be perfect for your car. I think I know what you are asking. I will try and measure it tomorrow.
Are you able to drop your tailgate without it hitting the rack? Very important, though nobody ever mentions this crucial detail in reviews.
I wanted to buy SR. Because I have multiple different vehicles. They don't offer a 2 bike add-on this way. Only if you do roof mount. Which I want hitch 2 bike for suv.
You can get the piston pro it holds 2 bikes
Does it fit with a Europe (German) hitch?
Does it come with all mounting parts for the hitch?
Nope, it's only available in 2' hitch. This is a problem
Great video. Looking at all my options. This would be ideal for me but don’t think this tilts so i can open the rear door on my SUV? Am I correct?
You are correct.
Is Kuat working on a modular system? I have the Piston Pro X still in the box but I’m considering returning it for a One Up because I’d like the ability to switch between one and two bikes but this system looks superior.
I am not sure if they are or not it would be really nice if they had a single bike that could be added onto for up to 4 bikes one tray at a time.
How did you manage to take the bump stop off - I cannot wedge it out for the life of me

check out Küat's Piston Pro X with tail lights and license plate holder!!

It is two parts. You are correct you buy the rack and the hitch mount.
Can you add a second tray later on?
Not on this one but you can get one that expands called the piston pro made by Kuat.

I’m hesitating so bad between this rack and 1up racks. Has anyone ever had issues with the Kuat piston sr? Is it reliable? Thank you 🙋🏻♂️
I have several friends that are running the piston models and haven’t had any issues over the last year. Plus, all the parts are replaceable, and you can buy them on Kuat website
Had a Yakima for years. Just bought one up for two bikes. Was less than Kuat, super heavy duty and mechanical industrial looking. Will out live me.
My fat tire Ebike is much to heavy for me to lift I would never consider lifting my Ebike
What size hitch does it need? I have a Toyota Corolla with 1 1/4" hitch. Would that be big enough?
2” is what you need for this rack.
@@RunBikeMike sucks because you can't get a 2" hitch for a car, only a truck
Nice god bless
$1,400 bucks?
$680 for the single
Way to expensive $1300
The SR is $699 usd
