    Could you please do a video on how to inspect and adjust the emergency brake cable(s)? Thank you.

    I wish I had thought about this earlier, but could you set the record straight on warped rotors vs. uneven pad deposits?

    Do slotted rotors increase NVH and wear pads faster? I've heard yes and no from the internet which is confusing and would like a more definitive answer if there is one. Also, do slotted brakes really wipe clean the pads? What about J-hook slots?

      Any rotor with an edge, such as a slotted rotoscoped, can possibly wear pads faster, depending on use and the pad compound. The slots are really there to help evacuate heat, not clean the pads.

    Why does one side of my parking brake work? And they aren't really strong feeling? Thanks!

      This is a bit hard to diagnose remotely. Assuming this is on a stock brake set-up, you can start by tracing your parking brake lines from the rear of the car and making sure both cables are connected and move freely. The stock cable is prone to freezing in place just due to age and wear. You can also check your calipers to make sure the pins are greased and moving freely. If you have any questions, give us a call at 970-464-5600 or drop us an email at tech@flyinmiata.com and we can try to help.

    How long is brake fluid in an open bottle "good for" on the shelf? I have some left over after my last flush (stored with the cap fastened and in a ziploc bag). I plan on replacing fluid yearly - is this still good after a year?

      It's very hard to tell how much moisture brake fluid has absorbed. If it's for a track car, or a car that is going to see a lot of hard driving, it's probably a good idea to purchase new to ensure you don't have any moisture in the lines that can boil over. You've got a bit more of a grey area in a daily since it won't see the harsh conditions that a track car sees. If it's been sealed air tight, you're probably ok, but when in doubt, we recommend just springing for the new fluid.

      @@FlyinMiataVideo Related question: Does absorbed moisture ever leave brake fluid when the fluid gets hot or boils?

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  4 роки тому +1

      @@grandtourisbros Now that's an interesting on. Can you boil the water out?
      Well, if it boils in the system the moisture is still trapped in the lines and will reabsorb. You're also only boiling the fluid in one spot, so you wouldn't be taking much water out of the fluid.
      Can you remove the brake fluid and boil out the absorbed moisture - say, a pan on the stove? We might have to find a chemist to tell us for sure. It might be possible, but unless you're living somewhere where you don't have access to fresh brake fluid it's probably not a great way to save money.
