    Do I need to change the suspension on my MX5? No. Do I already know how to change the suspension on my MX5? Yes. Did I watch and thoroughly enjoy this video anyway? Yes, yes I did.

      That is a fantastic review, thank you! I had my doubts on whether the internet needed another Miata suspension swap video, but I was going to do the work anyway, so why not?

      @AndrewDoesCarStuff im glad you showed the yellow FM shocks instead of the more costly red vmaxx, ive been curious about the difference since i dont/haven't gone to the track or race

    Very good calm and systematic video as usual. Watching you is actually therapeutic in some way. 👍

    The extra mounts on the side of the front shocks are for ABS.

    I very happy for you that you could do that. Imagining myself doing that work on my 91 would be very rewarding. I have done a few things but haven't been able to get to suspension yet.

      Excellent! It's not too bad, and is probably one of the best upgrades you can do.

    Love the satisfying cricking sound of when an old bolt begrudgingly lets go of its grip of its trusty nut. Excellent car stuff, Andrew!

    I did the FM 1.5 kit a few years back in my 1990. It had period sst bars so left them. Great kit. Rides better than you’d think. Firm but not harsh.

    Another very well done, well edited, thoughtfully laid out, video! Inspiring stuff, for sure! I've been taking lots of photos of my current project and finally got around to purchasing a little tripod for video shoots so hopefully, I too, can upload some helpful content regarding a 50 year old Datsun 620!

      Thank you! And go for it, I'm sure there's a whole community of Datsun people who would enjoy some content.

    Just a heads up the pictures on Flyin Miatas website of cars with the 2.5 kit are definitely not set to the highest position with that clip mentioned in this video. It’s either the middle or lower position. The middle looks really good with 15s and you can probably use the lowest but im not sure that might be too low.

      Good to know! I wondered what kind of difference that would make.

    Very sensible upgrade and great video. Is the driver side steering boot split?

    • @AndrewDoesCarStuff
      @AndrewDoesCarStuff  Рік тому +1

      Thanks! And yes, both sides are split. I will replace these, but it might wait until I go down a bigger rabbit hole and replace control arm bushings, ball joints, etc. I'm not emotionally prepared to do that work yet, but it'll probably happen at some point 😆

    Great video! Thanks. I'm installing Koni STR.T with my stock springs. I noticed you waited until the car was under load to torque the top shock nut. I've been struggling trying to figure out when to decompress the spring after compressing it to remove the OEM shock. I put the new shock in and the top mount and top nut, at which point I just have enough room to get it on the threads. Do I then fully decompress the spring to seat it onto the spring plate and shock mount? I feel like that would add too much pressure to the untorqued shock nut on top. Not sure if that makes sense, but I'm having a hard time figuring that out.

    • @AndrewDoesCarStuff
      @AndrewDoesCarStuff  6 місяців тому

      As long as you have all the threads engaged on the top nut, you should be ok to release the spring compressor. If the nut is only partially on the threads, I'd consider that unsafe.

    can i still use coil overs to adjust the suspensions softness or increase dampening
    (not the ride height)
    also can you shocks go on a NC
    I replaced my old shots with new stock shocks and the rear ones got very soft within a year... so time to change em again

      Flyin' Miata sells similar kits for the NC, check them out here: flyinmiata.com/collections/nc-handling-handling-packages

    Does this kit stay within the parameters of ES (E street) class for SCCA Autocross rules?

    • @AndrewDoesCarStuff
      @AndrewDoesCarStuff  Рік тому +1

      No idea! I've never researched those rules.

    • @curiousgeorge7176
      @curiousgeorge7176 Рік тому

      @@AndrewDoesCarStuff yeah I thought it would be worth asking as it seems like autocross would be something your car would do really well in. I highly recommend it for a safe and low impact way to really get to drive to the fullest of your cars ability. It’s so fun! I’m setting up my 97 M edition for it and the cool part is you don’t have to end up with a car that’s only practical for the track lol the stuff you are doing to your car are perfect for it

    • @Thegravyipass
      @Thegravyipass 11 місяців тому +1

      The ES class is really strict on what you can install on the vehicle. Because he put different shaped top hats, rear sway bar, and different springs from OEM, he would not qualify for the ES class.

    Good video but please don’t use a torque wrench as a breaker bar. 😢
