That same brother also informed me of drifting in MK64 years later, and I still haven’t gotten the hang of it. Also I’m only ever able to play Rainbow Road and Mushroom Cup. The rest are too difficult for me, a casual.
No, it really doesn't. The track design is bland, the orange sands do little to alleviate the visual design, and it implemented possible shortcuts so lazily. The train obstacle isn't even a good gimmick. It's barely used for the tight slips that Schaffrillas describes. It just wastes time by bringing the race to a crashing halt for most people. Hell, at some point, it just becomes irrelevant to people in 1st-3rd, and only acts as an obstacle to everyone else, all for the ultimate crime of being hit by items. It just doesn't work in 64 and 7. The background is so dull, and is only interesting due to being evening, there's nothing there. The music is so boring, the only good part is the flute, it's a failure as music in a racing game.
19:59 so funny story, years ago me and my friend were racing against each other on this course. Now he was a little bit ahead of me, but when we were about to pass the castle, I said, "The castle's actually a shortcut." So what does my friend do? He drove straight towards the castle door as I took the lead. The best part was he managed to get himself stuck as he threw down all his banana peels right behind him, thinking I was following him! I managed to get at least a full lap ahead of him. Now, was that possibly an evil thing for me to do? Maybe, but to my credit, my friend didn't have to listen to me. Best part was my step dad was watching, and he was actually backing me up! Also, isn't all fair in love and Mario Kart?
I think Wario Stadium could be done a lot better by adding some opsycles, cut a good chunk of the track out, add some more variety with the decorations, a big Wario statue, some half pipes and gliding sections, and of course, making it in HD
Wario Stadium is honestly my favorite track in this game because of how bad it is. Trying to knock your friends down the jump and frantically trying to do the shortcuts makes a chaotic multiplayer map.
Yeah, it's not _that_ ugly, all things considered. It's just a dirt track with a repeating Wario Face jpeg on the walls. And the layout reminds me the most of the Hot Wheels GBA games I grew up with, which is where I learned racing techniques. Not much is patently unfair like the snow courses or Banshee.
While I've never played 64's Frappe Snowland, i have played the DS Retro version, and i must admit that does at least fix Lakitu's no fun allowed barriers somewhat by using differently coloured snow to tell you where you can't drive. And admittedly, going through the snow valley is quite nostalgic to me.
The rainbow road in this game definitely looked amazing back in the day, and I’ll always be impressed by that epic speedrun jump people can do to cut it in half, but the rainbow roads get way better later in the series
Glad that Schaff is gonna finally rank MKDS next. Even tho it isnt a top tier Mario Kart, it will always hold a special place in my heart since it was my first Mario Kart
When I was younger and had Mario Kart 7, I would always try to follow the train into the tunnel in Kalimari Desert, and I'm so glad I'm not the only one who's had that experience
Here's my defense of Wario Stadium: Learning to hop the walls is the perfect sweet spot of shortcutting. It's not a blatantly advertised shortcut like in Koopa Troopa Beach, it's not glitchy stuff like in Frappe. It takes some degree of timing and skill, but reasonably dedicated kids playing the game can learn to do it, especially the one right from the beginning. Then you never know just exactly how many shortcuts your buddies know, and there's the risk/reward of screwing up the jump and killing all momentum. Also, I love the big jump being so punishing. It's this terrifying landmark looming over the race. I've had so much fun seeing that ramp littered with banana peels, trying to bait out friends' Thunderbolts (or desperately hoping for a Boo to steal it) without falling into the gap... This track has CONSEQUENCES, both good and bad, and that's exciting. If you had given me 5 guesses what the last track in your rankings would be, it never would have even crossed my mind.
Man, Yoshi Valley that low? You can pick easier paths if you don't like the risks of the more narrow/treacherous ones, and you have the awesome risk/reward of trying to jump the U-turn down the stretch. I guess I just have completely different sensibilities when it comes to this game.
It's so convenient that Schaffrillas posted this JUST as I finished torturing myself unlocking Mirror Mode. It was really cool seeing this alternative look at a game I just dedicated myself to for a while.
In middle school before I bought an iPod I had a 3DS and just put Mario Kart 7 in, opened Kalimari Desert on Time Trial, and left it on in my backpack. Simpler times
I love how you can see Koopa Troopa Beach in the background in Sunshine Airport despite the track not even being in Mario Kart 8. I really love when Mario Kart tracks are interconnected like this.
Awesome. The number 1 pick is mine too. Love the music and the train. Though I think rainbow road is my second. Its relaxing and feels so good. Like your celebrating finishing the game. The new ones are too chaotic.
Bowser’s castle was always my favourite, with the demonic choir from hell that scared me and Marty who’s punished for their crimes we don’t know about. 25:00 also there I am again lol
15:34 It's called a road, it's called a Rainbow Road It is a road that you go It's called a road, it's called a Rainbow Road And you will know when you get there It's called a road, it's called a Rainbow Road It is a road that you go It's a road that you go when you die
Some friends and I have the theory that N64 Wario Stadium was canonically remodeled into the DS one, and that’s why it’ll never return. Cuz it’s the only course to have a repeated name across multiple games (excluding circuits).
Honestly love how much you love quoting twisted, it’s such a good musical, i showed it to one of my friends who watches your content this year and it just never gets old
12:15 I really appreciate you talking about the Battle Mode. It's really amazing in Mario Kart 64 back when it was new and I was a kid in the 90s and still to this very day. And hell yes! Block Fort is the best by far. And yes Big Donut is the worst by far. I've always preferred Double Decker above Skyscraper, but I understand why someone would prefer Skyscraper with it being on one surface as opposed to the large amount of floors Double Decker has
Thanks for making this. It’s reminding me of all the good times I had (losing) with my big sister in our childhood home. That home has burnt down this year and it’s tough, but this video reminded me that even though the house is gone, the memories and love are still in tact
I agree how Wario Stadium is really long and tedious. However, I love the fanmade Retro Course for Wii that has a NASCAR-style tarmac on the outer rim and a motocross dirt part in the inside.
"Nobody talks about Banshee Boardwalk" Spoken like someone who never saw JonTron's Top 10 Mario Kart Tracks list in 2010 where Banshee Boardwalk was number 5. A touchstone of well-aged Nintendo content.
I can't wait for Schaffrillas Productions Presents, a Brand New Double Feature Event: "Why Oppenheimer is a Cinematic Disaster and Barbie is Universal's Magnum Opus featuring Yummo Wickersham from the Devil May Cry series."
MK64 was my first experience with Mario Kart as a whole. A family friend gave me their N64 with Mario Kart, Mario Party and four controllers and from then on it was just the go to game to play with friends over. I do have the best memories with Mario Kart in particular though, since we didn't have instruction manuals or anything and it was just me and my dad playing and learning it together as a result with my younger brother watching since he was too young at the time. A lot of your rankings brought back good memories like my brother INSISTING the Yoshi Egg was a giant soccer ball, timing the Wario Stadium lightning bolts to strike RIGHT as people jumped that annoying jump, and mocking my dad whenever he fell in the lava in Bowser's Castle. A lot of good nostalgia caked into this game and you did a great job explaining its pros and cons! Especially Kalamari Desert. First time I played it, I DID get stuck in its tracks lol

4:53 I love how Club Penguin keeps popping up in the oddest places. But I might be biased.
(I animated that dance.)
A devilish trick or intellectually disabled
Call it.

I think Wario Stadium could be done a lot better by adding some opsycles, cut a good chunk of the track out, add some more variety with the decorations, a big Wario statue, some half pipes and gliding sections, and of course, making it in HD
Ok Choco Mountain is one of my favorites so I’m happy it at least made B tier
S Tier MIRROR Toad's Turnpike.
Always a blast. Usually literally.

The only track that hasn't been remade/returned
Waluigi Stadium would be a good remake in a future mk game
This morning I was literally thinking "I wonder when Schaffrilas will release a ranking video on Mariokart 64" and woah!
Apparently the track was designed by Wario himself
okay, terrible idea
a revamp of the track, where the entire floor is one giant boostpad
The Raceway music fits Wario Stadium IMO. Really gives the energy and gusto a dirt bike stadium has.
Sure.
23:23 That image looks very crisp and nice👍🏻
13:34 those SAD ANIMATIONS/SPRITES are so cool !!!
Just one more booster course pack and we'll have a 2 hour video of shaff going over 96 courses
The rainbow road in this game definitely looked amazing back in the day, and I’ll always be impressed by that epic speedrun jump people can do to cut it in half, but the rainbow roads get way better later in the series
''but the rainbow roads get way better later in the series''

The version of Kalimari Desert in Mario Kart 8 is absolute peak! Probably the best music in the game and you drive in the tunnel
Too true. Amazing how they managed to fine tune this track to the last edge.
Kalamari desert is my fav imo im happy schaf understands my love for the track as well, my 2nd fav is toads turnpike.
Glad that Schaff is gonna finally rank MKDS next. Even tho it isnt a top tier Mario Kart, it will always hold a special place in my heart since it was my first Mario Kart
This is truly the most epic Schaffrillas series ever made
When I was younger and had Mario Kart 7, I would always try to follow the train into the tunnel in Kalimari Desert, and I'm so glad I'm not the only one who's had that experience
Hell yeah, I’ve been desperately waiting for another Mario Kart video!
I don’t know why, but some of the editing here makes me feel like I’m watching one of your earliest videos, and I honestly love that
16:55 you missed the perfectly opportunity to replace the backround with the boulder part of choco mountain
26:19 it does look beautiful to be fair
13:00 the bomb car is literally the greatest dead player insert ever
I love how the auto generated chapter for Kalamari Desert says "Calamari Desert Train Ahoy"
I can listen to Schaff talk about Mario Kart all day.
Good Video Schaffrillas I'm Glad I've Started To Watch The Content You Make That Is Not Just Film Reviews
Awesome. The number 1 pick is mine too. Love the music and the train. Though I think rainbow road is my second. Its relaxing and feels so good. Like your celebrating finishing the game. The new ones are too chaotic.
i just realized this guy has 1.75 schaffrillion subscribers and thats pretty awesome
Bowser’s castle was always my favourite, with the demonic choir from hell that scared me and Marty who’s punished for their crimes we don’t know about.
25:00 also there I am again lol
I like to believe Marty betrayed bowser and joined forces with mario lmao
Would be really cool if schaff would have a gaming channel playing mario cart, pikmin, etc

"As I walk through the valley of the shadow of *yoshiiii."* got me
Interesting to know that we might get a Mario kart ds ranking since schaff did some during the production of this one
A lot sooner then we think too. Though, I'd still consider him getting Super Mario Kart out of the way so we can move on to the better stuff
@@aidenemerson670I agree

@@bdt2002gaming I honestly think the worst track in mkds, is figure 8 circuit
@chessmaster19 they’re both the worst tracks in DS, I’d be surprised if one of them wasn’t in the bottom spot
Some friends and I have the theory that N64 Wario Stadium was canonically remodeled into the DS one, and that’s why it’ll never return. Cuz it’s the only course to have a repeated name across multiple games (excluding circuits).
Shout-out to Shaff for somehow managing to find unique sound clips to play before the million Mario-themed tracks in the series
I miss the bomb chase battle mechanic SO MUCH. "I'm out first and I'm going to make it EVERYONE'S problem!"
"I'm done torturing myself"
Super Mario Kart: Hello there
LOL the MK7 review ending
I genuinely thought Schaff already covered 64, but I guess he didn’t .
He only did Super Circuit, 64, Double Dash, and Wii
@@iLoveBread260… Hol’ Up
I agree how Wario Stadium is really long and tedious. However, I love the fanmade Retro Course for Wii that has a NASCAR-style tarmac on the outer rim and a motocross dirt part in the inside.
Schaff giving Nathaniel Bandy a run for his money in Block Fort simping
Frappe Skowland is one of my favorite tracks it's also good on DS
Schaff how did you slither your way into my top 10 UA-camrs, I get so excited when you upload lol KEEP GOING!!

Spoken like someone who never saw JonTron's Top 10 Mario Kart Tracks list in 2010 where Banshee Boardwalk was number 5.
A touchstone of well-aged Nintendo content.
Fun fact : this video is now as far removed from now as it was from the release of MK64 when it was published.
Basically everyone can agree that 64 was peak battle mode
like you turn into a bomb when you lose, totally a thing that should come back
I only played in 2P... 🥲
Schaff used the Herb f bomb. That cuts deep.
He must've been pissed.
YESSSS IM SO HAPPY schaff your Mario kart rankings give me so much comfort and life
I can't wait for Schaffrillas Productions Presents, a Brand New Double Feature Event: "Why Oppenheimer is a Cinematic Disaster and Barbie is Universal's Magnum Opus featuring Yummo Wickersham from the Devil May Cry series."
8:51 That'd be windows XP. Also I do recall a part of mario circuit looking a lot like the bliss wallpaper
Fun fact about all MK64 Tracks: Each track outside of Wario Stadium has appeared/been remade across all Mario Kart titles.
This channel really has it all to massive movie rankings to Mario Rankings to random Pikmin videos what’s not to love
