I can't even call AI "art" art since it is just a generated image. And AI "artists" is just an AI users. It is not correct to call it "art" anyway, it can't be considered as it.
I think one of the worst parts of this ai “art” issues is that we have idiots like Shadiversity claiming they are masters and that they are very skilled at art when they let a machine do 90% of the work and didn’t put much input or learning into it. In shad’s case it’s closer to 80% to be fair to him.
You can't even call it "AI" because it's just an algorithm that takes in information and spits out information that fits certain parameters. There isn't any meaningful intelligence behind it.

@@2265HelloAI does almost ALL the work, the only work these “artists” have to do is type
Btw if you are suspicious if some art is ai check these things:
1. Check the hands, ai is uniquely bad at them
2. Look at the proportions, ai tends to fuck them up in ways humans usually wouldn't
3. Check textures, art drawn by humans will usually have some amount of strokes and irregularity while ai art has some very specific textures it pulls from
*4. Look for some eldritch, unreadable signature. Some AI don't recognize those and put them in.*

@@mrosskne So, an entire industry of regularly underpaid and mistreated workers are on the verge of being replaced just to save some soulless CEOs a few hundred bucks, and you're saying that they're... entitled?
Random Thoughts:
1. Human artists are still better equipped to work with AI artists (robots) than anyone else. AI is still terrible at and likely always will be terrible at:
A: Resolving details in a way that makes sense.
B: Creating unexpected styles.
C: Giving works composition and direction that both makes sense AND is aesthetically pleasing
D: Connecting with a human audience by sharing experience, knowledge and wisdom.
E: Actual technical ability and flexibility (as opposed to just mashing rote learned patterns together with no logic)
All things that artists are superhumanly good at compared to the average person. The portfolio of most exclusive "AI Artists" are complete garbage because they have no idea how to fix these problems. I certainly wouldn't.
2. The average person (including me) hates AI art and is unsettled by it. From a philosophical tech enthusiast standpoint I'm inclined to defend AI art but... every time I see it... there's definitely something wrong about it. Even as someone used to looking at glitzy computer generated imagery (video games) with no experience or knowledge of art creation whatsoever, looking on AI art is sickening and disorienting in a completely apolitical way. I don't know how to explain it... ...well, the mangled hands and environmental details definitely don't help.
3. Counter-intuitively, image generation tools having free access to more images from more artists should result in less plagiarism. AI doesn't have context or understanding of what its doing the way a human does, so it just blindly repeats patterns its seen in the stuff it trains on. If the stuff it produces sufficiently resembles the sum total of the stuff it's training on, it calls it a day. If it trains on a single artist, that means it can get away with just cutting and pasting collages of the existing work. If it trains on many, that means it has to find common threads between the art, which will be more fundamental and important things such as perspective, shading, linework, etc.
3B. Although this may be in the interest of human artists, as it means AI art will stay terrible and non-competitive.
4. There is no such thing as a human "AI artist". AIs are AI artists. Humans are human artists. If you request art from an AI using elaborate specifications, you are an AI commissioner. Stop.
I agree with EVERYTHING
❤❤❤❤❤
My man, you’ve just said something that cured my nightmares. Thanks 🙏 Thanks a LOT. Seriously, it’s hard to explain it, but, thanks, now I can sleep soundly at night. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Funny thing is, this is probably the most egregious case of copyright infringement ever, in the history of mankind. Scraping so much info from so many sites for art, writing, poetry, programming etc etc. And yet as of right now I'm not aware of any legal repercussions.
And yet we get DMCA copyright strikes for humming a bit of a song in a video.
Bruh.
You need to agree to the terms and conditions to use some sites, and the terms and conditions probably included that everything you post in those sites, they have a right to hoard and use. The only way to avoid it is to not use the site, which is gonna make things a lot harder for artists. So not much they can do here.
@@woppagangnamstyle Uh no, those sites a: don't have a right to your original works, and b: aren't the ones doing the AI shenanigans.

Concept artist here. This whole AI thing has made lots of us panic. We are already undervalued, underpaid and exploited. Job competition is extremely fierce, and getting in is very difficult. I'm one of the lucky ones, having experience working on 2 games. Luckily, i'm in a position to go back to school for things that are industry related, like 3D. And I know a few programmers to help me learn C#. Job security is scary in this field and having an AI steal years of your hard work without consent is uncool. Not to mention lots of us have diploma's and degree's, which cost lots of money in tutition. My hope for the future is that the FTC makes laws on this blatant plagiarism, and lets me keep my job. I like putting food on the table.
Even as programmers we're screwed. Most don't seem scared yet since they spent ages learning frameworks, etc, but those are literally designed so that people can work together and not fuck up. That's not a problem for an AI.
Its such a hard topic TBH, I don't think AI art should be sold because of how it currently works. It also should be able to directly identity genuine art from AI art.
But how it works now is not so different than people using existing art as a reference. Though, one could call it 'tool assisted tracing', in a way. I do not fault the creators of the AI, nor do i fault the AI. Fault the people who misuse it.
However, in the future, when AI is self-aware, does it not have the same rights as you and I? If it draws something, but on its own whim, not some prompt it was given.
@@hannahukki Honestly I think we have to fight AI with education and laws. Anyways, I would totally recommend learning 3D, as a ton of art software have similarities with 3D software. (Blender is free too!!) You'd be surprised how much art is applicable in things like 3D texture painting!
Senior year is scary for choosing career paths too. Choosing schools is not so important, as long as you can network good, be it at school or events. And making sure its not too expensive. Recruiters only care about experience and portfolios, not the school. Teachers are some of the best resources out there and can help out after you graduate.
Lastly, ig's algorithm sucks. Quantity over quality. Really hard when you put hours into something and it gets dumped into the void. Especially if you want to set up a lil shop. Don't let likes define you or your art, although its hard not to feel that way when you’re getting screwed over everywhere else. Truly unfair.

I really appreciate kwite going into how this is hurting artists rather than just being like “haha look at these mangled ai images” and now since I’m an artist so I am gonna share my opinion that no one asked for! The biggest problem is that the art is using work that artists never gave permissions to be used imo and as a smaller artist and someone who’s currently In college studying art/animation seeing all this is really disheartening. Especially considering the state of animation, I’m determined to continue on this career path but its hard to keep hope sometimes. Ai art is gonna hurt smaller creators, who rely on commissions more than other larger artists, the most since ai will always be cheaper to do even if the product isn’t nearly as good.
Also I kinda wanna see someone compare Art they commissioned to ai “art” they generated, I think it would be interesting (and help show more of the faults in the ai generation?)

Like Marvel is pretty much on record for treating their visual effects team like utter garbage and the response is typically indifference or "well they should just get a different/real job!" not taking into consideration how much time and effort goes into cultivating artistic skills.
It's a mix of ignorance and indifference, most people are ignorant of the amount of effort it takes and are indifferent to their treatment so long as they get their products to consume.
@@DuskEalain You are completely correct, the most this AI thing will do is put a dent to the income of artists, which will not be nearly big enough to end it all. As long as we the people support artists and their work, they will stay in business. As for whether or not AI will stay, time will tell.
@@woppagangnamstyle Exactly, and it's like I heard from a pretty well established professional when this all began: "The clients you 'lost' to AI were the ones that weren't interested in paying you fairly to begin with." Which has absolutely rang true in my experience.
I can see AI having a long term usage as a thumbnail generator in professional studios, used to get ideas for perspective and composition before starting an actual piece. Similar to sketchbooks, some studio artists sketch traditionally and then scan it to complete digitally, others do the entire process digitally. I feel AI will go the same route, some artists will do the traditional thumbnailing process whereas others will mess around with the AI to make thumbnails for them.

Even with all it's flaws in mind - I'm very much confident I'm never gonna switch from traditional drawing to digital after seeing this. I spend hours, sometimes days on my art, and art is about all I can do to be honest, it's all I thought I was good for. And even that is if I put aside the 16357724382973% insecurity about it's quality. I thought I would try digital someday, because it's somewhat easier than spending so much f***ing money on art supplies... But now I just REFUSE to switch, because an art you can't touch is too easy to fake. I want to know that mine is fucking real.
So. Back to my practice. Sorry for the rant.
😊
I am thinking the exact same thing.
Pretty soon there will be robots better at traditional art than you
My biggest problem with AI art is people would rather pay for that than their local artists work and now people are even submitting AI work to real art competitions and starting to win and people are saying it’s good I don’t think so because AI art doesn’t take any effort but real art takes skill and time and if people are only willing to pay for AI art this could cause many artists to go out of business
welcome to capitalism
What more, theres kinda a sense of lifelessness to these art pieces. Like if I commissioned an artist for a piece,I'm willing to cherish it till the ends of the earth knowing it was worked on by a human and them making specific decisions an AI couldn't.
As much as I feel like AI art might ruin businesses, there's another part of me that feels like it'll die out. Because there's no worth behind these pictures. It just feels like it's gonna be overused and people are gonna make a big deal about it then they find they don't really have much of an attachment to these pieces. Could an AI art replicate the little Easter eggs artists add in their pieces? Is it able to give them that same emotion ,pose and feeling when looking at a piece? I kinda wonder about that sometimes.
It's so fckn bizarre how people would pay for auto generated slop than something custom made for them.
Simple, less capital. Most people barely have the money to pay for these services. So either artists are competing on the order of a cent per image or integrating it into their workflow to create higher quality versions of the same thing.
Why would I pay for someone to draw me something that will take a month to a year to complete when i could just wait 30 seconds for free art several times. Just how tv streaming services killed cable, ai will replace artists.

All AI art steal from creators
That's how the technology works. It's not capable of original ideas and is only capable of stealing someone else's and shuffling it in a new order.
AI art had so much potential but it was always going to end like this
Ai art can't be good because that's the only thing it does. It steals peoples art and then make it into ai that's how ai art is made. Its pieces of stolen art
Being trained on billions of art pieces and asking it to draw is not stealing. Plus why don’t you use it as a tool for inspiration, since most A.I. art doesnt even know what its doing

If you need thousands of images, be prepared to purchase and/or commission all of them.
