2017 Yamaha EX Deluxe WaveRunner Review - Long Haul Episode 13

- Not content to simply build "their version of a Spark," Yamaha WaveRunners designed a completely unique 3-seater runabout to compete in the ever-growing Rec Lite segment. The new EX series is light, playful and smart, and yet retains a lot of Yamaha's standards in reliability and longevity. The Watercraft Journal reviews the top-of-the-line EX, the EX Deluxe, and shows that just because it's budget-minded doesn't mean it isn't fun.

I think i've decided on the Yamaha EX Delux over the Spark as my first PWC. From what i've seen on research nothing tops yamaha reliability
ObamaBinLaden amen to that bro
I have c the VX delux all enjoyment no regrets.... great on fuel economy...
Same here man! I want something that will last and has a bigger engine and also more reliable hull material. I bought mine brand new last year and already hit 100 hours. It’s been great for ripping around and towing
My spark, 60HP topped out at 43MPH. But average top speed was 41MPH. Yes the spark 2up will beat you up, but man it is fun to drive. Fuel economy is about 4hrs of ride time on 5 to 6 gallons of gas. Purchase price brand new $4800 without the tax.
Oh I gotcha, damn can't make them all my brother. Have a blast at the finals. Can't wait to check out the picture & report I'm sure you will have on the event. Till next time

This is the one I want my parents to get me but the 2021 one. Any differences on that one compared to the 2021 one? Great video

Great review Kevin! I should have jumped on it at Smith Lake that day. Maybe the next we're together. Hope to see y'all at Fall Mudbug it will be a blast
Sadly, I don't think I'll be able to make it. I'll be eating up all of my available "away time" at this year's World Finals (10 days) and can't fit another trip in.
How do the EX's compare to the older VX1100 waverunners made fro 2005-2016? Which is a better hull for towing a tube and carrying 2 up?
Well, the EX's are both smaller and less powered, so they will struggle to tow on par with the VX110's. You'll want to look at the new VX series for a better comparison.
@@watercraftjournal I owned a 2016 VXR for a summer and loved it. I had a 2006 VX Cruiser for a week and only got to ride it for 5 minutes with it overfilled with oil and nicked up impellor. It would only do 43mph, I fixed it and someone bought it before I could get it back out on the water. I really liked how the hull handled the brief time I had it on the water, but didn't get to see what it would do when it ran right.
Between my wife and i we weigh about 396 lbs will this be ok stability wise
It is a rather small, playful machine. Two adults will be...cozy.
What's the range with that 13.2 gallon tank?
It's surprisingly good. While we didn't run it down empty, we put in over 40 miles without it chiming at us. And it only took a little over 10 gallons at the pump.
Do you think you can wakeskate behind this model?
We'd submit that a full grown adult might prove a little unruly, particularly in the corners as the EX is very lightweight compared to larger runabouts.
How bad is this going to suck if your previous watercraft was a FX SHO?! Real question.. thinking about getting this after selling the sho.
Well, it's a VERY different machine from the full-sized FX. They're not really comparable.
Watercraft Journal Thanks for your response! I know there’s a big difference, mostly on power/speed. But is it still a good and fun cruising machine with the possibility for some tubing and so on or is it really to light for that?
how much will it take fill it up
Money-wise? Wherever you find the cheapest gas. We like the Kroger pump because of the membership discount.
the EX is hardly comparable to the spark, much heavier
The spark literally made of plastic
shouldn't you be comparing this with seadoo gti range, not the spark ?
Not at all, as both the EX and Spark are classified as "Rec Lite" vehicles.
And by the time you get all of the add-ons for a spark, it adds up to this price, the very base level spark is no where near good enough for someone that would be taking it out a lot.
51mph out of 100hp... base sd spark gets 49mph from 60hp and likely better economy
102HP, and we saw slightly better speeds.
And the Spark is a nightmare to ride on anything but glass smooth water. The Spark beats the crap out of you due to the flat hull design and light weight.
No, it's not the best. That's for sure.
The 60hp spark goes about 35-40ish stock. You need the 90hp tune to get 48-49
PeaceInHumility seadoo’s speedometers are pretty much garbage you can call them a wishometer bc your going 5mph slower than what it actually says also brp also has some of the worst engines when it comes to fuel economy so please do your research I was once a seadoo owner I regret it I’m Yamaha all the way now
I love my ex plus it goes faster than what they tell you, my max speed thus far is 58 mph.
GPS confirmed?
Poor review
Oh yeah? Why?
