    In summery:
No way, no how, three extremely young sisters should be able to compose an album of this complexity…in their second language!
I’ve heard it 100 times plus and it still blows my mind!
    Great job Wave!

This was actually an suggestion/assignment/challenge from their music teacher, and what they accomplished as teenagers is something that groups with decades of professional experience have not tried/accomplished. It shows their professional dedication and music writing and compositional skills and competencies. This was discussed in one of their online chats 2 or 3 years ago.

Great reaction Wave. Listening to the entire album in a sitting, really taking it in, truly captures the emotional roller coaster Dany, Pau and Ale created. That they did this, as their second album, is just staggering. Everything, from their youthfulness to their relative musical experience to their limited life experience, should have made this endeavor impossible. Instead, they deliver genius level musical compositions with deep and dark lyrics, emotionally riveting melodies and vocal moments that take you on a journey that rips at your heart and tears at your soul.
How, in the world is it possible?
The level of talent and vision necessary is mind blowing. It’s the darkest novel of unrequited love set to music.
    Poetically. Musically. Experientially.
    It just kills.

It’s a very mature effort for as young as they were. I’ve heard worse from some much more experienced, much more popular, bands. I’d like to see them do another concept album someday.

I hate sounding like a fanboy, but it’s impossible not to when listening to it. I’ve listened to tons of albums and many concept albums, this stands up there with DSOTM and other classics. It would’ve been amazing had a trio of 20 ish male British rockers made this, it makes it that much more special that 3 girls mostly in high school from Mexico wrote it. It still blows my mind.

Your interpretation of the piano ending of Ugh is the first time I've heard that. It fits the storyline perfectly. She is in her head thinking about this other person who doesn't know she exists. The lonely piano is her realty. Great job!

Wave! Love that you took the time to do the whole album at once. Much of the album lyrics are intentionally vague so each listener has their own interpretation. However, I don't know who wrote those song "Abouts", but many of them are way off what Dany, Pau and Ale said about each. Also, it seems that they were poorly translated from Spanish, were "Him" and "her" are easily reversed. The album is almost entirely told from one person's perspective, "The Queen". She has a good side, Usually sung by Pau, and an evil side, sung by Dany. Pau sings lead in the first and last song, and trades back and forth with Dany in Sinister Smiles, where her inner sides are fighting for control of her. Helpful Hint, she kills the dude she is after in Stalker (yes, the murder occurs in the 5th song) and she is standing over his corpse by the end of the song. The song Hunter is sung by The Grim Reaper, who is after the Queen, because she has gone so crazy she has tried to take over his throne in hell. (Yes, really). So keep in mind, most of this album in inner monologue in the Queen's head, and it makes more sense. ;)
Oh, and the song P.S.Y.C.H.O.T.I.C. has defined a new subgenre... "Cheerleader Punk". LOL..She is so crazy by this point that she has Cheerleaders in her head, egging her on. (ex: The chorus and the "Hey, Hey, Hey"s) LOL
It is MUCH more intense to watch the live performance of their album release from Lunario CDMX. It is MUCH more intense that the studio album. Dany completely inhabits the Queen's persona. It is SPELLBINDING. If you loved the album, the live performance will leave you speechless. (And their is a whole video screen production of it in the background)
Also, QOTMS is NOT their first album. It is their 3rd record. The first is an EP of 6 songs called "Escape the Mind". Their first full LP is "XXI Century Blood". One of the best debut albums I have ever heard. It has songs in many subgenres of rock and you will understand why I call them "The Swiss Army Knife" of Rock. For the high quality live versions of all of XXICB, watch the performances from The Dakota Bar from their YT Page.

According to DPA, the murder happens at the end of Stalker. QOTMS was released in 2018 and NOT their first full length album. That would be XXI Century Blood released in 2017. Perhaps you should review that one just like this one in one go. There will be some songs off that album that will likely get played when you see them on April 27th.

Really enjoyed your album review! One note about the end of this album that I just find pure genius. The last line of The End is “Start again!” Then if you start the album again from the beginning with Dust to Dust you get the lyric “In THE END everything just turns back into Dust to Dust...” So they’re subliminally telling you to replay their album.😂

Excellent review/reaction Wave! Love your insights and musical knowledge. The girls said the story was interpretive, so your understanding was as good as any other I've heard. Sometime you need to see the live performance of this album at the Lunario. Dany's performance is incredible.

    • @johnafagerquist8235
      @johnafagerquist8235 2 роки тому +4

he wasn't given the chance to interpret. Those annotations sent him in a direction which was out of his control. Whoever wrote those was not very familiar with The Warning. Even medium obsessed fans have seen enough from the ladies or from TWA to know the intended basic meanings of the songs. The Warning has put out vlogs for the very purpose of explaining the framework of the story. There is plenty of room for interpretations of various flavors within that framework. I mean, really, a couple he's that should have been she's, and the story of QOTMS goes out the window. I am so sad about the whole affair. Somebody should find those annotations and, either correct them, or delete them. Theh may as well have said QOTMS is about a a wall paper hanger who doesn't like odd numbered Wednesdays, if the Falcons won; truck, worm, squishy.

    • @professorg9424
      @professorg9424 2 роки тому +1

@@johnafagerquist8235 It does take on a whole new meaning if you know the girls said the killing was at the end of Stalker. But I've seen others go down the path Wave did. My take on it is that at the end of Stalker he's dead, with Red Hands she's feeling the guilt, and with The Sacrifice she's justifying what she did. Then it gets crazy. 🤪

You hit the nail on the head when you said Dany's guitar solos are melodic. She once said that when she composes a guitar solo she thinks of it as a melody line. It shows. I would much rather have a guitar solo that I can follow and hum along with than shredding that is more showing off than melodic. That guitar solo in "The End" could have gone on for another 5 minutes for me. When you eventually hear the solo in "Show Me the Light" from their first full-length album (QOTMS is their second) it will make you cry. Have tissues handy.

I'm at "Red Hands Never Fade", and I think the little annotations you're reading were (possibly) written in Spanish, and then just crammed through Google translate. I imagine you'll figure out the main character is the Queen, and the love interest is the one murdered. He was murdered during "Stalker". Dany said she was sing to a corpse for those last, haunting lines.
In RHNF, she is speaking to the dead guy. Not necessarily to the corpse, but in a spiritual, she can sense his presence, kind of way.
Ok, the annotations appear to be written by someone who is not actually familiar with the story of the album. "He" was the love interest, she killed him. She's in her own head from RHNF on. Ok enough from me, I think.

I don't watch many reactions, but I do enjoy yours. The little snippets on that lyrics page are kind of jacked up, IMHO. I think somebody was using a translator and not really getting the story right, at least the way I see it. Try thinking along these lines. Pau and Dany are playing 2 characters, well 2 personalities of the same person.
Dust to Dust - Pau singing, it's actually the ghost of the protagonist coming to tell you the story. "Hey come on in and let me tell you this sh*t that went down"
Starting with Crimson Queen, Dany takes over the vocals and takes you inside the mind of this love sick woman, and lets you see the story through her eyes.
At the end of stalker, she has the lifeless body of her love interest in her arms, singing "look at me my dear, I love you so, cause I am yours and you are mine"
In Red Hands, she starts to realize what she has done.
Sinister Smiles is a duet between Dany and Pau trading off vocals. The chorus? Break break, just break apart. Her personalities are splitting into two
When you get to Hunter, a third character arrives, the Grim Reaper. He wants revenge because she stole his crown by killing someone. Fun fact, at one time they planned for Ale to sing Hunter, but when they went to the studio, they just abandoned the idea and Dany sang it. Ale does occasionally sing it live if Dany is feeling under the weather, or needs a break on her vocals.
In the end, we are back to Pau singing as she is dying from wounds inflicted by the Hunter.
That's the short version of my take on the album.

Pau said in an interview that when she wrote the initial draft of the lyrics the album was a series of songs about murder. She was going thru her emo-teen angst period. When she shared the songs with Ale and Dany as a group they decided to make an underlying story to connect the songs to the common theme and the concept of the rock opera was what they came up with.

I dunno if anyone has said it here, but UGH was almost cut from the album due to the band not being able to get it the way they ( mostly Ale lol ) wanted it. She named the song BTW. Their parents pressed them to complete it, and get it right. Stalker was sorely hated by their mother. She felt it too dark, violent, too creepy. It was Pau that insisted it be included because it is the pivotal part in the story, where the girl does the actual murder of her 'lover' that is never to be. The insanity takes over from here. Stalker is my second favorite song off the album. In Red Hands the murder is done and she's actually talking to a dead body..In Sacrifice we see the 'Queen' taking over the girl's mind, but as an seemingly innocent friend there to help. Know that this is all in the girl's mind, the whole conversation. The Queen is tempting her, to just surrender. In Sinister Smiles, the girl is actually arguing with the Queen, who is tempting her as some sort of savoir from what she's done, again, all in her head. But the Queen wants more blood, and the girl is not on board, and is wrestling with the consequences of her actions. Dull Knives is my fav off the album, albeit so short. At this point, the girl has pretty much surrendered to the Queen, and embraces the need for further bloodshed. She cannot resist anymore. The title track, is my 3rd favorite. I love the breakdown, and Dani's solo. In this, we see the Queen has lost patience with the girl, and is taking over. You will kill, or I will kill you is the ultimatum. Ale's bassline is also really dirty. Love it! BTW, Koroso means to kill with murderous intent. Much different from just to kill. In Psychotic, the girl is taken over and the Queen is in control. She doesn't care anymore. She's warning that she's gonna kill again. Note that fans have dubbed this song as cheerleader punk even as dark as it is.. somehow TW made it a fun catchy song. The scream is Dani. Hunter is an interesting song. The Grim Reaper has entered the picture. It is telling the Queen that it is the 1 that controls who lives and dies. It's a warning that it is coming for the girl/Queen. It has the 'title'. The End has a ton of different interpretations. The girl is dying, we don't know what exactly happened to her, but the Queen, the alter ego, is dead and she is dying as well. It is a song of confession, of remorse, guilt and shame. Pau really delivers it. Think about the big bands such as Iron Maiden that are known for concept albums...this 1 is just as good!

The point you make regarding their album as a story is a good one. It’s like they are storytellers first and they just happen to use music as the stage. But really, even with Mayday, all their songs feels like stories.

This is easily in my top 3 albums of all time (right up there with Appetite , and Master of Puppets) These girls have renewed my love of music and I am super grateful for that and I am yet to be disappointed by any song I have heard. great job and I am glad that you enjoyed your journey with it. this is about the time of the concert you mentioned as well so I hope you have a blast there :)

@@WavePotter Rosie has to watch out. We are developping a beautiful musical bromance ☺☺☺☺. Last week you delivered a shining diamond with your Yoyoka documentary (with the support of Glen and Rosie). You already had a very professional interview with Daisy Pepper and now the entire QOTMS analysis of my favorite band. As the other heroes of TWA have already mentionned the live version of QOTMS is even better. In some songs Dany and or Pau sing from heaven to us. I really am curious how Crimson Queen and Stalker will sound when they play it this year. It will be a great year with you seeing live Band Maid and The Warning amongst others. I hope you and Rosie get invited back stage. It will give great footedge and another great experience you deserve. By the way I am so happy to hear that you are still working out. Health is everything as we've seen with TH. Finally you'll already been notified but Yoyo and Ellen together was really great. The confidence Ellen plays with is great to see. The Wisky jam has only produced one video and Yoyoka really carries the song and the band. 12,5 years old and already a leader. Arigato Yoyoka. WHILE WRITING I JUST UNDERSTOOD FROM ONE OF MY OTHER DEVICES THAT THE BAND MAID TOUR WILL BE EXTENDED♥♦♣♠.

Pau is young andhas a tendency exaggerate her contribution to the song writing at the expense of her sisters and had on several occasions had to admit their song writing is a collaborative process. There are certain devisive elements in the fan base however who want to perpetuate the idea that Pau is the genius if the band and the other two just hangeroners.

  • @syrius1

Hey Wave! Glade you made it. I bet you didn’t recognize Pau at first, singing Dust to Dust? But the final belting (5:00) was performed by Dany; also in Sinister Smiles if one pays no attention, then you miss Dany and Pau switching vocals; but this gets better, and many many didn’t catch that Pau whispers the song along with Dany on Dull Knives (check it out again) it’s almost imperceptible 😀.
Finally it’s not their first album, it’s actually the third one. Now since we’re in reverse mode, how about the second album consisting in 13 songs? It’s called XXI Century Blood, and the first song is “hominym” (yeah that word again) the video has a very well crafted story please do react at it, here is the link… ua-cam.com/video/syTyga3lVL0/v-deo.html

thank you for this excellent reaction and review of lyrics! It is currently my favorite album (I'm in my 50s). I personally feel that your interpretation of the lyrics makes more sense than even what pau describes was her original intent... but that's what I love about the album... it works for lots of listeners and genders without any right or wrong. The Warning have stated clearly that they love the different interpretations of their lyrics.

Very nice reaction / Per vlog she killed her love intrest in stalker/ In red hands she is panicking and talking to his dead body. She is saying she is sorry and it was just a mistake. / in the sacrifice Her bad side is coming out and states to the good side to follow her and she will make it better. Then the rest of the album is a fight between her good side and bad side.

Great great review of the whole album! 4 years ago, they all were teenagers… well, two of them still are today… isn’t the quality of the compositions, of the arrangements unbelievable? So much talent in these three girls! Watch Stalker from the Lunario show, Dany’s performance is breath-taking! Dull Knives is a must see in the live version from their cave for the charity event deTour… and Hunter was once sung by Ale when Dany had to save her voice, when they opened for Stryper… ua-cam.com/video/kdA9HatBPc8/v-deo.html Ale singing lead is like a rare gem! In Stalker the description was wrong that you got. She has the person she loves captive and kills him at the end. With the dynamic change in the last lyric you mentioned, she was singing to his corpse. Red Hands Never Fade is her conscience wrestling with what she had done.

If you wanna see where some of the darkness comes from in some of their scales and keys, listen to Caifanes. One of the all-time top Mexican rock bands (80-90s). Those scales and keys sound very “Mexican rock” to me as I grew up with those sounds. I like to think it’s the affinity with death, the magical, of Mexican culture. The kind of culture that fuels Día de Muertos.

An excellent reaction (and I've seen a lot of them) I really liked that you covered the musical arrangements and production of the album but you also focused on the lyrics and you fully immersed in the story. That is a great merit because not everyone in all the reactions is able to cover everything, so I take my hat off to your great work, it was really very entertaining to watch, I really enjoyed it.
I dare to suggest that you now watch the concert live at El Lunario in CDMX (Mexico City) ua-cam.com/video/9VciU3gMMUY/v-deo.html because it has the particularity that it was the presentation of the album QOTMS and although the height of the city affected Dani at times, the emotions and character that you noticed in the studio recording is multiplied by dozens in this presentation, I think you will enjoy it a lot
Note: In the comments of the video of the concert at El Lunario you will find the setlist
    Enjoy!!!

To me CHOKE is the sequel to QOTMS. In CHOKE the CRIMSON QUEEN has trascended, i.e, she has accpeted her negative emotions and incorporated her shadow-self in the Jungian sense. In CHOKE the CRIMSON QUEEN is finally liberated from a life of suffering; she has reached the NIRVANA and is no longer in the endless cycle of pain and suffering that her previous life was.

As others have said, the annotations are completely misleading. Look at the entire album as a duality - Pau's parts are the "self" and Dany's are the "queen."
People with this kind of psychosis will create alternative personae, usually to protect the "self" from past or present trauma. I believe that's who the "queen" is - the power that is there to assist a young woman who is emotionally fragile and traumatized. Sometimes the self will indulge that power, and in this case, she goes over the edge.
Look at the lyrics with fresh eyes and listen for the voice changes with this in mind.
