- Back to armour for this video with Tamiya's Mtl.SPW 251/1 Halftrack
Some more scratch building in this video as I decided to make some self-improvements with the help of a rotary tool and wiring :)
Like all Tamiya kits, not much to report back on the build as it went together brilliantly!
As always, enjoy the video, please LIKE, SHARE, COMMENT & SUBSCRIBE as many more models are on the way with more and more techniques to show you each time!
Thank you

I'll be 61 this fall and I'm remembering when I was in my mid-teens and Tamiya was considered one of the higher grade companies and I would save my paper route money to get a kit, at that time, they averaged around $30-$35. About 3 years ago, I picked the hobby back up and now consider Tamiya a good starter kit for people who don't have the experience yet. How times change.
I've built several of these kits ... Excellent builds ... They fall into place so easily ... If you want to start in WWII armor this is a good kit to build ... Detailed enough but not so complicated to get tired of little parts and extreme complicated track system ... A weekend build to enjoy
Outstanding on many accounts. I learn so much from your builds TIN...thank you!
That was great, I like the idea of using the putty for a mud effect, perfect I will use this idea thanks for posting, great work!
How do you get the colour
Tamiya is the Cadillac of armor kits. Period.
If one can master these old builds and paint jobs, you can do anything! These early models were my favorite and most accurate hisorically
I love the weathering on it and the colour and the little things you dont see but still add
I first started with the Tamiya 35 th scale in Singapore in 1976, especially as they were cheaper than back home, but they are actually quite the best,
I had the axis ,my brother the allies . We constructed about 100 men each . Plus tanks , cannons , vehicles , horses .,etc . Painted details . Still have them in a box 35 yrs later
Well impressed, this is a lovely job, well done
Hey Man, youre doing a really good Job. Thx for sharing it to us
Excellent kit. With Tamiya or Miniart Figure or Panzerfaust accesories. Verlinden German bags, rolls go great too. Love the Grossdeutchland Panzergrenadier divisional markings. From the Dragon kits. Hate Waffen S.S. just a matter of taste of course.
It is a good kit even though it is getting on a bit now. Sounds like you have a lot to get your teeth into there, best of luck and thanks for watching :)
I just started the other tamiya hanomag today, first time I played with the plastic in over a decade, and damn it felt good! Little nervous about the painting part but I figured I'll have to dust off the old skills lol! Your video got the creative juices flowing
Love your record style, please make more!
Top job! 👍 Would like to have seen the process of painting/weathering of the interior as it was done really well. Look forward to part 2 👍
Thank you! The painting part is coming soon and will include all the interior detailing
Just watched it. Excellent 'how to' on painting and weathering.... Great stuff!
Woah! Those sets have actual moving parts?! I have to get me one of them!
great idea using the filler to create thick mud. ☺
That poor brush
you make it look so easy
Nice work!
Very nice build indeed, well done. I am looking forward to your painting video now to finish off this great Hanomag model. Well done and best of luck with the rest of the painting etc.. Have fun,
Joe
Joe's Model Kits Thanks Joe! The painting part is already uploaded m.ua-cam.com/video/b4MUlNg0AV8/v-deo.html go have a look :)
The Inner Nerd Many thanks for that, I have just clicked the link and now I shall go and watch it. I am sure that it will be great. Many thanks for the link, Joe
Great video and Autobots roll out! :D
Great work
I thoroughly enjoyed your build! I would love to see some shots of your completed Hanomag as well. I recently built Tamiya's SdKfz 251/1 Ausf A and was very disappointed with the quality of the kit moldings. As a result I was a bit hesitant to purchase their Ausf D version, but it looks great! Thank you so much for producing this video!
Thank you! There will be some shots of the completed model in the next video once painted ☺
The D version is hands and above the old version. The old one is from the late 60's, the D is from the early 2000's I think
Pantsermeister
montrevant - the A variant was produced by Tamiya in the early 1970s and it was a jewel, mostly because of the 5 realistic panzer grenadier figures that came with the kit; one of those was made to be firing the MG to the front, which was as cool as could be in those days. As far as accuracy in model halftracks go, these kinds of vehicles are an engineering nightmare to build(notice that no army uses them anymore) and to make a model kit of one that's sturdy enough to be handled, yet have adequate gluing spots and still have any details can be a kit - designer's nightmare. Most kits I have seen are a mostly unsatisfactory compromise. This one looks good, though, and I will very likely build it - and probably have the Tamiya 5-man panzer grenadiers keeping it company!
I am sorry but you are wrong on "engineering nightmare" It was actal much lesser complicated and therefore cheaper to produce and faster to produce than a fully tracked wagon. The reason of why they went to only to produce fully tracked wagons is the simpel facts that the price difference today compared with the tactical advantages of being fully tracked is much lesser than during and before wwII.
You earned another sub
Very nice build and editing
Beautiful
Awesome video i like using tamiya and Vallejo paints
Can we please see some videos of your painting process. And also how your weather. Keep up the great work!!!
One of my first kits. Was very enjoyable.
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Very impresiive 🚂❤️

Good job of "mucking it up"!
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
I like the new music format...the narration is really good too though...nice change up.
Patrick Drohan cool
hello, please, explain how the tracks are placed, thanks
Very good video u have one more sub
The "mud" looks good at the vehicle.
6:50 what kind of tool is that and how can u get it?
Good!
German had the most beautiful vehicles. Like them for their look not for they use
brilliant I haven't made model kits since I was a child the old airfix kit but I'm going to start again I found this video really inspiring but I wish you had included commentary for example what was the glue in the green bottle what paint did you use and was it applied by brush if you have videos on what I have mentioned please let me know thanks
Thank you and welcome back to model building! I now have commentary on my later videos so if you watch those it will explain what I use. I am using Tamiya paints in this video and the glue is Tamiya Extra thin. I use a Harder and Steenbeck Evolution Silverline with 0.2mm nozzle for all my work
What is the song at 7:15?
This was a lovely video, I enjoyed it quite a bit. The way you made the shrapnel holes was interesting.
hi, arrival to earth - transformers
Green98sav thanks very much
welcome
Did you put something on the plastic prior to the application of the putty? Great build bu the way! I am building this one right now.
Not that I can recall. Putty goes straight onto the plastic but I thinned the putty with poly cement if that’s what you mean
Hi,Got a question. Why do military models not get painted before assembly? Thanks.
Richard Nevermore The interior panels are painted beifre assembly to aid the process. As you can access all of the exterior parts once assembled its makes sense to paint after assembly. Depends on the model though and the ease of access to individual parts. Hope this answers your question!

I think that Tamiya still makes the best halftrack hulls, Dragon, AFV club, just made them way to over engineered on there hulls, you have to be just right. even sanding a hull part on there kits wrong, can make it look wrong. anyway great video.
Well that's the price you pay for better accuracy, especially AFV club halftracks....
I had (thought I did), the same model, but my box was completely different. You must have a re-edition or re-lauch.
I think this one is a rebox yes. The kit is apparently the same but artwork rebranded to Tamiya's most recent. Thanks for watching :)
すごい
What brush on cement do you use?
I use Tamiya extra thin cement. You can also get Tamiya regular cement in the same brush pot too. Mr Hobby also makes a brush on extra thin cement
Why isn't there a shot at the end of the finished model? What the fenerk?
ua-cam.com/video/b4MUlNg0AV8/v-deo.html
Is this the right scale it seems a bit too small for 1/35?
I thought that too especially compared to my Tiger which is if the same scale. Tamiya does say its a 1/35 though on the box 🤔
@@TheInnerNerd I know i see my mine ompared to some panzer 3 and 4 and wonder if ist a true scale.
very nice I like the interior but actually surprised you didnt take care of those big side seams which are very visible, the filler should have been priority for that
Thank you. And yes this was the time when I didn't really understand how to use putty correctly so didn't use any at all. And as my 2nd ever armour kit didn't fully understand all the processes in armour modelling. Luckily now I know and get those gaps filled nicely
@@TheInnerNerd I built a similar kit by tamiya not long ago, when done properly using tamiya super thin glue which weld parts togheter you actually dont need putty if so very minimal, the plastic welds togheter for a seamless finish.
I did the beginner's one.
Half Track Cover!.
作ればカッケーキット👍
That music is from Transformers right?
Во Класс👍👍🔥🔥🔥
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
That was a very nice build, but you put the front axle on backwards.
Okay thanks for the tip! I always do something wrong or put something on backwards lol. Luckily you don’t see it once it’s build hey 😆
My Stepfather was a Hanomag driver during the war..
Does he have photos of him & the other men in the unit with his Hanomag? I am sure you would find inspiration from his photos to make a model of his Hanomag! :) His photos would also provide many ideas for where the crew stored their gear, any field modifications they made, and other interesting details. :)
What the hell dude we missed the paint job
I used a hot needle to make bullet holes LOL
Mam ten model😀🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱
Just a comment for the algorithm
for some reason the version that i have has way less features
That's strange since this kit hasn't changed since 1995. Maybe you have a different variant? You can see the kit timeline hee to check which version you have. www.scalemates.com/kits/tamiya-35195-sdkfz251-1-ausfd--133017 Thanks for watching :)
@@TheInnerNerd yeah i found out why but thanks for your answer
Как то странно, надгусеничные полки грязные,крылья тоже,а колеса и катки чистые
Basic error - you didn't write what model it is 35195. Correct yourself
No need to correct myself, you've done it for me :)
How much do you spend on a *manicure? Ever try playing outside? In the dirt?*
Howard Fortyfive Yeah I go outside all the time but I wash my hands afterwards with soap and water, you know?
Howard Fortyfive I didn't know clean hands were a bad thing

Excelente 👌
