I'm now an official empty-nester. Our only child, a son, got married, and I started decluttering, at a snail's pace, after he got married. Let me encourage you about cute socks. My son still enjoys those as a young adult, so I buy them when I see something that really relates to him.

I learned something today! I didn’t realize you’re an adoptive mom!! My husband and I chose our last son through international adoption.
I appreciate your journey. My husband made me submit a daily chore list after our third baby because he saw I was overwhelmed as mom and wife/pastor’s wife. That was in 1985 and the list saved my sanity!

I gave away 85% of the stuff on the house, after became a widow, and have zero regret. The stuff will help the charity and will serve better somebody else’s needs.

Dawn changed my life!! I'm getting ready to pull out winter clothes and to my horror, I have an ENTIRE tote of summer clothes that is packed so tightly, 2 5-drawer dressers packed to the brim, and 2 closet rods so full of shirts and dresses that I don't even remember half of them. 2 girls, that can basically wear the same size when it comes to shirts and shorts.........it's time for a radical declutter!!!!!
It's no wonder I hate doing laundry. Because there's no room to put it back!!!!! And THOSE are the clothes they are actually wearing so I need to make room for them. And let's be honest, my older daughter will pick the same sweater and leggings every single day if you let her. She doesn't need a bunch of variety.

When you see people in countries that don’t even have shoes it really makes you realize that most of us are living with so much more than we need. My husband and I adopted our son from Guatemala years ago. It made me realize how fortunate we are and how I wanted to be able to give back. We sponsor children through World Vision from various countries around the world as we feel so blessed. It is just so heartbreaking to see children with so very little. I never feel that I’m doing enough. There is so much pain in this world and as one person I can only do so much. I love that you are spreading the word and hopefully your message about Uganda will help the children there.❤️🙏 Your children are very lucky and blessed to have you as their mother.

We are blessed with family members who gift clothing for our girls so often!
I really truly will not buy new clothes for my kids until they only have like 3 outfits that fit them. I let them outgrow that size, and when it looks snug and it’s their last time wearing it, I put it into a trash bag. When the bag is almost full, I wash it and donate it. It’s the only way I can keep up and not buy too much kids clothes! Cause I Thrift for them. And every piece of kid clothing is adorable. But if I really know. Ok. My daughter has 2 fancy outfits and 4 casual ones. She probably needs about 10 new outfits. It’s easy to remember and keep track. I can picture her closet.

Managing a household is hard, by having so much stuff ,it takes our time and energy to organise or stuff into closets! Best thing we did was declutter..the kitchen, books, clothes etc. I have chronic illnesses and the feeling of being in control of our home is amazing! We donated, sold, recycled where we could and now it's not so overwhelming 😊

Aw, hadn't heard your big backstory. I'm on the other side as well, though my 80% done means of the 20% it includes decades of photos to go through and all me/hubs childrens books and the books for our kids which I put in bins for "some day grandparenthood." I know if, God forbid we died tomorrow, I did 90% of the work someone else would have to go through. It is an onion though - I have done several more extreme rounds to keep paring things down. I have debilitating chronic illness (and osteoarthritis in my wrists with endless surgeries...) so you'd think I'm the last person with spare energy...or physical stamina. But it's actually been so therapeutic. I may not have full control over my body but I DO IN MY OWN HOUSE with my physical items. The fancy phrase is "locus of control" and I definitely appreciate feeling that in decluttering. God bless anyone reading my comment, no matter where you are in this journey! I started with one small shelf in my unfinished basement. The feeling was magical.

This is AMAZING!! I’m so thankful I found this channel!! 😭Literally I’ve felt like a failure and as a SAHM I often feel like I have no excuse because it’s my only job maintaining our home. The laundry and socks are my biggest battle! I have often thought about getting rid of clothing, but now I’m fully motivated!! Thank you thank you thank you! God bless you and your family!!!

I love this video! I can so relate. I am 63 years old and only have my husband and I in the house now. I still have been struggling with many things in the house. The worst probably is the laundry. We have too much. I began with Dawn, then Dana K white, and then found you. These videos have really helped me. I almost have all of my clothes to a minimum. It took multiple pass throughs to let go of clothes. I have gotten rid of most of the clothes that don't fit too. I still have some piles on surfaces in my bedroom. My husband has a huge amount of clothes and a pile that is about 2-3ft tall on a chair. I told him after I get more of my stuff under control I will work with him on his clothes. He sounds ok with that. I have totally felt like a failure for many years over not being able to keep up with the laundry and basic cleaning. Thank you for emphasizing it isn't just me.

Thank you for your honesty! 😊
What sorted out my laundry was only having two baskets- on for dark and one for lights. when they are full i do a load or two if theyre both full. it’s usually once a week and i have a 10kg washer and dryer so im good to go. thats up to 20kg of laundry for 7 of us and i put bed sheets and pillow cases in normal loads but i dry duvet covers and curtains over my upstairs hall way rail. - a miracle if you ask me!!! 😅
    But less
in the drawer definitely makes things easier to put away 🎉

Our perpetual "Mt. Laundry" (which started as a joke nickname that really wasn't a joke) got moved from the couch to the guest bed when we had to do a flurry of panic cleaning because the plumber was coming 🙄I had the grand idea that I would conquer it little by little. A couple months later Mt. Laundry is still in there, and now Son of Mt. Laundry is slowly appearing back on the couch. And I won't even go into the state of the rest of the house! 😐 Thank you for these words of wisdom and like many people here I'm glad I am not alone in my clutter!

I’m looking back at my laundry journey….being a mom for 50 years, it started out with all those cute little dresses….. that needed to be ironed! Then permanent press came along…. But it took a while until I figured out that we did not need so many clothes, wardrobes became smaller without even noticing. One of the things I noticed when you were sorting and folding those cute little socks, you have to match them up, thus the beginning of the orphan sock mystery. I started buying all identical socks. A friend of mine with twin boys, solved the problem, one boy’s socks were Hanes, and the other boy’s were Fruit of the Loom….never had a problem mixing them up. The worst challenge I had was when I took in a boy, in addition to my already 3 girls, he had lots of clothes already. There was always a pile on the floor, when I did the laundry, I would find clean folded things mixed in with the dirty ones. I called them the ‘clerties’. He lived with me 6 years, I never actually conquered this issue. We just lived through it. A funny story, when he first came, he played football, (why are practice uniforms white?) well trying to be a good mom, I scrubbed them every night with lestoyl, then washed & dried them. A week or so passed when he said, “would you stop doing that, I look like I sit on the bench!” After he finished school and moved back with his parents, along came another little bundle of joy, I raised a grandson from birth. 50 years of consecutive motherhood.

I don't really fold, it's all drawers and it's t-shirts, and shorts that do not require ironing or folding, everything goes into bins (Ikea Dronas for each category). We also divided socks into black or white only and they are supposed to buy the same design of socks where possible to reduce the number of lonely socks.

Mt Washmore, I think I have climbed that mountain 😄👍

  • @cabbagecrosby1993
    @cabbagecrosby1993 Рік тому

“Mt. Washmore” lol!!🤣 sounds accurate… My 8 year old: “My Minecraft onesie will go to Moses when it doesn’t fit me anymore, and then after Moses doesn’t fit it, Alistair can wear it. :)”
Me: “You already have holes on the knees, I don’t think anyone will get to wear it after you.😅”
Hand-me-downs go to die with him, lol. He’s also gonna be the tallest, since his dad is 6’2”, so it’s harder to find pants that fit him properly. Size 8 tends to be too short, but size 10 has a big waist. So glad people invented drawstrings and adjustable waist jeans! Wish they had adjustable waist jeans for adults too, lol! I do have a Froot Loops T shirt tho that my first and second wore, and now my 3rd is wearing, so despite a couple teeny holes, it might actually get passed down to the last as well. Pretty cool that it’s lasted 8 years so far, and it’s cute and comfy. Easy to keep a bunch of clothes when 3 out of 4 kids are boys, so they hopefully get handed down, and the girl probably has as much as all of them combined. 😅
