I love how down to earth you are about daily life and Christian living. Lately I've been annoyed by other sayings like "kids will be kids" or "boys will be boys" - as if saying so justifies inappropriate behavior. "Kids will be kids" doesn't justify disrespecting someone else's property. "Boys will be boys" doesn't justify immoral behavior.
This was fantastic! All the cute little sayings that essentially say “put yourself first” have really shifted our society away from service and away from Christ. They do sound innocent and even beneficial at first glance sometimes. On another note, I’ve lived minimally for almost 20 years and I have heard endless comments from friends and family about how I must clean and tidy all the time because my home is almost always in order. They are, of course, implying I don’t take that time to do things with family. I started living minimally BECAUSE I wanted to spend more time making memories and less time cleaning and tidying!!! And it worked! It was nice to hear someone finally say they understand my point. ❤
Thank you for the reminder that Christ should be the center of it all. Pour out ourself and fill up with Jesus. Amen
I have a cousin named Dreama. You are only the second person I have seen with that name. Love it!
One of the worst of these saying's you see around, like on fridge magnets, etc, is "You can choose your friends, but not your family".
Marybeth!!! Wow!! What an incredible, convicting, refreshing message!! It was just what I needed to hear. Thank you and may God continue to bind us closer to Him ..and each other.
I always felt vaguely uncomfortable with those types of signs. Thank you for digging into that discomfort and exposing the truth.
Do you ever grow weary of me saying this, Marybeth? SPOT ON! I especially dislike the "I am enough" mantra. To me it very subtly whispers, "I don't have to take responsibility for anything." A few months ago, you stated these words in one of your videos. It was so wise and it spoke to me so strongly that I wrote it down and I actually have it posted in my office: "I'm really not enough. I'll never be enough. And that's okay because He is. I don't have to be! In fact, I've been uniquely created by God to NOT be enough...so I have to depend on Him, to really have my daily bread and through my weakness, He is glorified." Now THAT'S something that we should have on a sign! Also, the self-care first philosophy (which probably means different things to different people) is not sustainable if it becomes our main focus. We all need a break...but the primary purpose of our homes is FUNCTION. We all have jobs to do (and life is filled with things that we don't want to do!). If we focus too much on ourselves, get lazy, and don't prioritize for long periods of time, it shows and it does lead to stress, depression, and a feeling of being overwhelmed. IT DOES NOT WORK! Thanks for this great video!
Thank you Joan! I appreciate your sweet comments.
Had to copy down this quote and make myself a sign. 👍🏻
@@jennylhenry78 I'm hoping to make one at some point too 😊
Love this whole video. You are spot on Sis. Then, at marker 13:20 you started speaking my heart! I spent my teen years hearing about self confidence over and over and I chased it...but never found it...then I learned that when I place confidence in CHRIST instead of myself, there was freedom and comfort in that...I always knew I wasn't enough...I am valued...but not enough...but I know HE is MORE than enough...I walk boldly and confidently in that Truth and live to trust and obey HIS WORD and KNOW that HE will take care of me way better than I or anyone else ever could! HE'S EVERYTHING! My dad always says..."GOD'S Bigger than what's the matter". I'm so thankful for that! I had a great uncle and he was in his 90's, he summed up life with this short comment about our LORD JESUS...my uncle said simply..."HE'S all of it". The best life I've found too, in my 44 years of living is a life surrendered to CHRIST...oh how HE LOVES! Thank you for your videos...so refreshing in these times! ❤️
This was SO good and SO needed!! Thank you for sorting through the lie and pointing to the truth of Christ!!❤️ I have always felt put down for wanting to keep a tidy home in the statements about messes. Thanks for your points about chaos and God being a God of order!!
Amen
I think these worldly sayings should irk us.
Ones that bug me are tones of ‘self love’, ‘you are enough’, and ‘you deserve it’ 🤢
I’m pretty sure self love is sin, I’m never enough that’s why I need Jesus, I deserve hell nothing more. Thankfully the grace of The lamb of God has come to save me. 🙇♀️🙏🏼
Great comment. I agree!
This really hit home. Thank you for the reminder, I really need to work on the “slow to anger”.
Fill yourself first with Jesus, then the rest of you will be enough-more than enough for all others!!!
JOY-Jesus first, yourself last, and others in between!!
We live by this little song 🎶
Thank you so much for the super natural response instead of our natural response comments. That really clicked for me!!!! I really appreciate your UA-cam channel!
Thank you so much for the passion you brought to this session and for sharing the truth plainly and without apology It continues to surprise me how filled up with the Word I become when coming to watch a video on decluttering. Thank you!!
I’ve never liked that little saying. It implies that my children didn’t have fun or that I didn’t pour into my family. When I had little ones, we incorporated clean up times throughout the day. There were plenty of messes made; they just got put away right after.
The only ‘mess’ I didn’t mind keeping was the footprints in the snow!
I feel like I have been sitting in a very intimate Bible Study! Thank you so much. as far as a clean house, I'm not there yet. Too much inherited clutter combined with my own clutter equals a lot of clutter. I have gotten away from the trap of decorating for every season to the excess. I now have 2 tiered trays that I use on my table and a wreath and that's about it. That is a trap I have gladly walked away from. That being said, I like to bless and be a blessing to my family. one way I can bless them is to have a tidy home and meals prepared. My family has been so patient with me and that is a blessing! Thanks again for the Bible Study!
My children are in their late teens and early twenties. I am a Christian. As a young mother the first statement would have been comforting to me. I would not have interpreted it as permission to not clean my house. It would have given me permission to stop chasing the mess occasionally so that I could be in the present moment with my children while they were making messes and then to clean them later.
This was something that I struggled with. I wish I could have a “redo”in that part of my life because it would have made me a much calmer and less stressed mama.
I think based on the “baggage” we bring when we write and read statements they can mean different things to different people. I realize I’m the outlier in the comments so far. ..please don’t attack me😂 this was just how the passage applied to me. No judgement here 🙂.
I in no way think clean or messy homes define how much we love our children or families or what kind of memories we make!
I appreciate your thoughtfulness! Thanks so much for sharing! 💕
Wow! Something to think about seriously. Good reminder. Thank you!
Yes, and amen to all these points! Thank you for sharing truth with love. 💞
Thank you! Best "sermon" I've heard in a long while. And for me, a great message makes me think about things in a different way.... not really telling me what to do, but
pointing me in the right direction.
Shalom!
Yes! Being self centered, no matter what angle we're taking it from, is not of God.
Great message today. I agree, we need to rely on God to refill us and help others along the way. Find time to be still. I struggle with being still with God.
This was so powerful and definitely stepping on toes material. I appreciate you letting God speak through you. I definitely needed this. Will probably need to rewatch too. Thank you.
I totally get what you are saying but had never thought of them in that perspective…thank you for your awesome insight! Have a blessed Sunday tomorrow!
Wasn't sure where you were headed! I think I'll have to rewatch this. There seems to be a permanent tension in "stuff=living a good life" and agape love which says "serving others=the good life" and if we're buried in chaos, that is very hard to do.
Mary Beth, thank you so much for this reminder and video. Much felt
and needed in my soul today.
Our natural response is probably not the best one. But what we actually need is a supernatural response. YES!
Thank you and God bless you this great word 😃👍
Oh my 😭😭 definitely had one of those “ natural response “ moments at breakfast this morning 😢
Need to listen to this again
Perfect message I needed. My family and I are going through some challenges. I just need to remember I'm living for Christ the is with me. I don't have to live up to the expectations of others. More time with him and less focusing on me. I'm going to stop buying a lie. Excited for the next video.
You hit it out of the park with this one! 😊
Great thoughts!
Thank you! 🙂
Well said Mary Beth! Loved the entire video!
I don’t think it was meant to allow the house and yard etc. to stay filthy but so many people feel like they have to be perfect in those areas. So it’s a no for me on number one
Wow! You just said it all. Thank you.
MaryBeth I thank you so much for providing another (& better) way to look at thing. You speak words of wisdom & thoughtfulness about pointing me back to Christ... I appreciate you helping me to see through the "fluff" of this world.
Wow this is such a good word! You just don't think how much these little sentences can draw you in! Satan really is roaring atm so I'm especially grateful for people like you who open these things up for me 🙏 God bless you
Great message! Thank you so much.
Very beautifully said. May God bless you.
Love this and completely agree! My generation needs a better understanding of “self-care.” Being grounded in Christ is the only sustainable option. ❤
Thanks for the great reminder!
Absolutely...so well said! The best of me is Him. 💕
I agree..let the kids make a mess but CLEAN it back up....Cook and make a mess buy clean it back up....kids can have toys out...but not EVERY toy they own..God is a God of order..
I have been slowly trying to teach the kids to do things like clean up a specific space or do a specific task. Also, Mom is not the housecleaner.
This could be your best video yet. Thank you!
Well stated. Blessings on you. ❤
Watched back to back!! ❤️ Thank you
Hi Marybeth, I couldn't agree more with what you said. This world has the wrong slant on self-love for sure. As you so rightly said, we first need to have Christ at the centre of our lives, then from Him comes the right love for ourselves and others. Life is all about seeking first His kingdom and then, from Him will come the right attitudes to everything else. This is why I love your channel, because your heart desires and seeks after a Christ centered life and you encourage us all to keep fighting the good fight. Thank you for sharing these thoughts with us. May God richly bless you and your family. xx
I like the sass! Keep up the good work, I love your channel. :)
amen! I could not have said it better. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Mary Beth, what a great message. I love to see how much you have grown in the past year in the Lord. I love your boldness on this channel. I so look forward to your videos of encouragement and strength and growth. Thank you for sharing. PS, thank your family for letting us be able to be a part of your life. I know you’re busy.
Thank you! I am not enough and it’s such a relief that I don’t have to be, because Christ is!
Wonderful message! Thank you for speaking truth ❤️🙏🏻❤️
so much Wisdom here ❤
Don't you think that the "world" people want us to be slobs or out of place, so we just buy and buy...
I'm reading Becoming Who You Are by Dutch Sheets in a small group and it talks a lot about what you're talking about. Living by the Spirit and not the Soul.
you've said this so eloquently! Amen!
Thanks!
Whew! You've got some hard messages to hear today, sister! I was refreshed to hear them.
Great video when so much of what we hear is me, me, me. What you said about being full of Christ so He is what we give out to others, so true! Thank you!
Such a powerful message and reminder, Mary Beth. Thank you and God bless.
This is very thoughtful and thought-provoking content. Thank you!
So beautifully said! Thank you
Yes, yes, yes, Mary Beth. Well stated. Christ in me, my hope of glory…and much more. Thank you for speaking truth. ✝️
Sorting the chaff from the wheat.
Great message! Thank you.
Yes my kids and husband say to me " who is voming over?" When I just get things all in order🤷🏻♀️
Thank you for sharing !
Correction, if I may: God's design IS perfect order. Satan's design however is to cause us chaos, and thus appear-to-be-the-hero when he "attempts to" make resolutions for order. God will never create chaos for us, but Satan does at every chance he gets. I really enjoy your content, and am trying my best to put it into practice. I am not usually so quick to correct, but I think this is a pleasant reminder for us, especially while living in the daily hustle and bustle of this world... it's all too easy to forget :)
That's exactly what makes more of these memes, signs, and sayings lies from the devil. He mixes lots of truth in there. So if we aren't discerning we think, well yeah that all sounds good.
Super, super, super! Such a great video! ❤❤❤
Amen!! 🙌
I agree with the whole self care/self involvement thing.
Powerful! Thank you
Excellent message!
Lol I love true crime too. Thank you for the reminder. God bless you and yours.
Haha someone came over and hung out in the kitchen- out of the mouth of Babes! I agree with the self centered focus not being truly fulfilling. God centered fills us. Also, I un-followed many youtubers, after a while they get too worldly when their channel grows. Love your channel.
Wow ,thank you !!!!
SUCH a good video! The example you gave of your son made me think of something I hadn't thought of in years. Apparently I had been doing a good job of keeping up with the laundry because one day my 8 year old son came to me saying that there was something terribly wrong because the dorty clothes were climbing up the wall. 😂🤣. Yeah...he was right... that's what they were doing alright. I shudder to think of the times I have fell for the lie that actually promotes self. Thank you for sharing this today. xo
Way to put your finger on condensation. It is so pervasive in society right now.
Amen🙂
This is so true.
Oh boy! Finding this episode is really a God thing. I just ranted to my friend about a couple of coworkers at my job....I was not slow to anger. Sigh. I think I'll go to Saturday church...
So good. Thank you!
Such a great video, thank you.
Love the word anchor ♥️
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE
Amen and this reminds me of a youtuber I watch. God Bless you MaryBeth!
Amen!
I am enough. Thank you!!!
I am convicted thank you.
yes, sin abounds
My new favorite video ❤️
WOW ! Very good show I want to be Christ Center have Super Natural responses Thank You 🙏🏻
Without looking it up, I’m guessing Do it on a dime? 🥴
Nope. ☺️ although now that you mention it I think she does say that doesn’t she.
She does say “you are enough“ I don’t really like that saying so much and I’m getting really tired of it. I still love Katherine, but I’m just so tired of that saying.

Sue Wolfe- To be clear, Kathryn lost her brother to suicide. She says "you are enough " to encourage others that they're good enough to be here on this planet and not give up on themselves.Perhaps this gives you an understanding of why she says it. It comes from a place of love and compassion for others.
Our houses will be there after us enjoy your family. What makes me laugh with all these people
who rant about their houses must live in mansions which and need a an army of servants.
Only boring people have immaculate houses. Remember Jesus was born in a stable.
I guess I must be missing something... This message sounded kind of hateful and snobby. Here's one:. WWJD?
WJWD - pour Himself out and give all He has to everyone else. Jesus grew bone-tired as a human being, many times at the expense of His own comfort to fulfill the needs of others.
