A year ago, I also decluttered a brandy glass imprinted with my high school prom theme info on it. I thought the same things: 1) Why was this a thing in high school? 2) When will I EVER use this glass?
Additionally I thought… 3) Do I really want to hold on to this and force my kids to one day throw it away for me since I’m not willing to do it today?

A word in due season! "Iron sharpens iron". Ouch! But SO true!! And we are definitely still friends! Another epiphany... why have I not given up my decluttering efforts to the Lord?! He cares about everything! Why wouldn't He care about one of my biggest struggles?! I need to pray about this and get some grace on it! Thank you, Marybeth. ❤

Your timing 🥰. We have our son in law headed to mayo clinic life is upside down but miraculously surgery there will save his life and nobody in Canada does this spine surgery. Normally I embrace lent but this year….the spiritual season is already hard. Your video is just balm for the soul. I am retiring mid June to cut back from adolescent mental health to a few days a week blue cross helping burnt out healthcare families bc i follow where I’m called. God does talk about decluttering just uses different words. Your Bible passages really brought it home. I’m decluttering hard again for this new season of life bc we are already pared back and what’s surplus now others need. Bless you Mary Beth this was just such a blessing. 🥰🇨🇦

Praying for you. My experience is that less stuff equals less stress. God gave fire, manna, and cloud cover to Israel…I figure if I follow the cloud, stay by the fire and eat the manna and keep my tent ready to move that’s 4 daily actions, 4 seems like just enough on the harder days.

I can't remember the UA-camr but she takes stuff that she's not sure if she likes it and puts them on a time limit. She makes herself wear it and if it's not comfortable or whatever then she knows she needs to get rid of it. It's genius, I have to try it but thought I would share. Hopefully it helps someone 😊

Very good analogy with the bandaid example. Interesting: If everything is valuable, nothing is valuable. Wow. I never thought about that but it rings true in hearing you say it. And, you're right, nothing really has value other than that we assign value to it. Even cash only has value because we all have agreed it does. In actuality, it's just paper. Coins. Now going digital where it is not even anything real at all. I love where you say that if we assign value to things we can just as easily un-assign it. Can't recall if those were your exact words as I'm typing, but I love the insight. Thank you.

Same! Mine were broken during a move long ago. I was amazed at how hard it was to throw them away, and had to battle the urge to super glue them back together. I mean, really. Does a 30 yr old women need to keep champagne glasses that she'll never use from proms she didn't even enjoy?! No.

Such a wise and helpful video Marybeth, thank you. I appreciate the way your channel always keeps us grounded in the word of God. It is so true that our stuff can itself become an idol. That thought is a great motivation to keep on top of decluttering. May God bless you and your family. Your channel is a real blessing.xx

I'm only a couple minutes in, and I already love it. Dust on the shoes ........... If it's just a dust collector, it's not serving me. I've really had conviction the past few days that I am lazy and I need to embrace it. Like, lazy in the best sense of the word. I want quick, efficient, no extra thought, and move on. I recently bought a silk hair bonnet to wear to bed. My husband said "why didn't you wear it last night?" ............. well, because sometimes I'm just plain lazy, I forget, and I just go to bed without it. That doesn't make me a bad person, it just means that the things in my life need to be easy.

It's helpful to maintain an eternal perspective with all areas of life. Seeing our possessions as possible idols that we could be putting ahead of God is sobering. Thx for the inspiration.

I have a huge, heavy metal box of stuff from my childhood days. Because it is so big, I have not looked in it since I graduated from high school, many decades ago. I'm planning to go thru it very ruthlessly and pare it down to a new, much smaller plastic container.

When I have dishes in the sink, I take longer on my Bible reading and devotions so I can put them off longer. (I'm not advocating that.)

This is the first of your videos I've ever watched, and I appreciated your tips and the straight talk the Lord laid on your heart to share. 🙌 New sub. 🙂 As a technical aside (one YT creator to another), the lighting situation you had going on starting at 14: 50 was incredibly flattering to you. I don't know if you'll be able to look back and remember what was going on there, but I thought you'd like to know. God bless you! -Cara

Thank you so much for sharing! As others have said, your timing was perfect. God put these thoughts in your head, and you followed His urging and shared them. Thank you. This has been a tough year. I’ve been plagued with bad health, just one thing after another. We lost my father-in-law last May, my father in January, and a sister-in-law just this week. In ten months our lives have been turned upside down. I did get back in the Word. I, like so many others, was not making the time for God. I put Him in the Sunday and Wednesday slots on my calendar, and I rarely picked up my Bible on other days. That is so different now. New dedication to spend time in Gods Word refilling my cup from His Well of Strength. The verses you shared hit me and my situation on the head. I will be restarting my decluttering journey next week, when I hope my health is a little better.
Thank you for sharing your heart, thank you for sharing your faith, thank you for sharing God’s, and thank you for doing it with love and respect!
