The author fully endorses the free ebooks available online as they aren't currently in print. While they are written in style for young readers (obviously) l went back and read them recently and aside from the very dated 90s references they hold up remarkably well.
If you are looking for realistic trauma, child soldiers, body horror, complex moral ambiguity then ask your doctor if Animorphs is right for you!

I started having panic attacks when I replaced sugar with stevia and when I stopped eating it I went back to normal. I don’t know why it happened but I feel like there should be a warning label on that stuff. I avoid it like the plague now.

My understanding is that severing the corpus colostrum doesn't "treat" epilepsy the way you seem to think it does. It is done to prevent the over excited neurological activity from spreading and harming the other half of the brain. It helps to keep the brain damage caused by epilepsy contained.

I once had a mental health client he was convinced that his brother had been replaced by an alien pod person. He hid in the closet waiting for the pot person to come home and then leaked out and started throttling the pod person demanding that his brother be returned. Of course the pod person was the real brother who called the police and while he understood that the patient was being very brave and trying to rescue him he did not wish to live with him any longer. Fortunately the guy got his meds adjusted and was able to recognize his brother again.

Because of AHS, I have a theory that our subconscious mind ecists on one hemisphere and our conscious on the other and severing the hemisphere severes communication between the two, and your subconscious gets control of your non-dominant hand and tries to do things that purely your subconscious wants to do. If I'm right or would kind of make every single person essentially actually two people. Two separate consciousnesses that cooperate with one another their whole lives

During the lockdowns and after some personal traumas, I developed a heart arrhythmia disorder and the sensations triggered panic attacks, which then turned into panic disorder which I was kept in a ward for because I was hyperventilating into unconsciousness in public for no reason and having the ambulance called on me. Completely debilitating, horrible experience. Drugs and therapy helped the panic but only way to fix my heart is to cut it with a radio (essentially)
So yeah, can confirm "anxiety" and panic attacks are not the same. Not even in the same universe. One is being stressed and pulling your hair out, the other is being drowned with your hands tied behind your back and everyone watching and laughing.

As a blind person, I find Anton syndrome to be totally fascinating. To legit not know you’re blind, even after walking into walls, falling over turns, being faced with evidence that you cannot, in fact, seen ANYTHING, you still believe you have normal vision.
Another interesting disorder concerning vision is Charles Bonet Syndrome. I have this. Your brain craves visual stimulation and if you are losing your vision, or have completely lost it after being able to see. I have been totally blind in one eye and legally blind in the other since birth. When a cataract got worse and took more of my vision, it was totally weird! I’d see animals, like a cat running across the floor, various shapes, colors and people walking back and fourth through the walls. You know what you. Are seeing isn’t real. There’s no interaction between you and what you see. It’s just like: “ok I just saw a cat.” Another interesting thing is that the detail in which I saw these hallucinations was much sharper that my vision, for example, looking around my room. When the took the cataract off and fit me with glasses, I haven’t seen anything in normal light except something resembling tv static that has various colors. In dimmer light, however, I still see things, though not as vividly. Kinda like seeing clothes on a chair and misidentifying it as a person.

And maybe a sudden loss from trauma instead of the gradual degeneration diseases.

Had it happen to me was very weird, thankfully no cancer and eventually went back to normal, but get it checked if you have the same thing! I think its especially if it's only one side. Dont feel bad about not recognizing your husband. I didnt realize how much hair made a difference to my ability to recognize my own wife until she straighted her hair (she has super curly hair) and put on make up. I thought I was meeting her new friend when I walked into the room... and then, I noticed that no matter where we are, in a crowd, I can spot her from 50 years away, just by her hair. The back of her head is more recognizable to me than the front. 😂😂😂

I have partial aphantasia so it's difficult for me to visualize things in my mind. It's partial in the sense that I can see things on occasion, but visualization practices that are used in therapy are almost completely useless for me.
My therapist once told me to visualize my safe space. I told her I have aphantasia and she didn't seem to get it. She persisted in wanting me to describe seeing at least something. So, I told my therapist that I see a void. It was a huge relief that she didn't take issue with this answer considering the attitude that I thought that response had.
Another therapist asked me how I describe things if I can't see them, because that's an important part of writing. I told her that's because I may not be able to visually see it, but sometimes I can draw those things. Since saying that to her, I believe I imagine in words.

Yes. People can absolutely still dislike a person they can't remember wronged them because that person wronged them. I've witnessed it in nursing homes. Some of the patients would absolutely throw a fit if a particular nurse was attending to them and be all smiles if a different nurse was assisting them, and when asked why they could not articulate a reason beyond they just like or hate the person. But if you ask around you'll find out a particular nurse is hated because they were rough with the patient while another nurse is loved because they sneak snacks to the patient or do other kind things. The patient doesn't remember the specific things that were done for them at any given moment, but they still like or dislike the nurse. Resident, patient, whatever you want to call them. I didn't work there myself, but I've been in nursing homes a lot visiting a loved one who either lived there or worked there.

There’s one that is just now starting to be talked about, it’s called AIWS or Alice In Wonderland Syndrome. What it does is it causes you to feel like you’re getting big or part of you is getting big and then you shrink back down sometimes getting smaller. I have it and my hands get big like a clowns hands even though I can see that they’re normal, it happens to my body as well but not as often. It’s weird It’s usually goes away once you become an adult but not for everyone. The lead singer of Led Zeppelin had it, in the song Comfortably Numb he says when he was a child his hands felt like two balloons, he probably doesn’t even know that he had it. I asked my doctors about it and they had no clue or interest, I’m going to switch doctors.

@@fkcz76_whisperer I get multiple migraines a month, I’ve had them since I was a child, I’m not knocking my mother because she was a country girl, but she would tell me that I wasn’t old enough to have headaches, the whole time I was throwing up and hiding in my closet to get out of the light. Even in school, the school nurse would say I’m just trying to get out of class. It was a different time so I have no hard feelings towards any of them, they just didn’t know. If anyone has bad migraines ask your doctor if you’re a candidate to receive Imitrex, for me it was a miracle drug. You can get it in injection form and pill formula, I get both because if I don’t catch it when it’s starting I have to use the injection because any pill you swallow is coming right back up. I hope this comment helps you or anyone with migraines because I thought more than once that I’d rather be dead than live like this.

I would like to respectfully address Kevin, here, as well as Simon et. al. to a lesser degree--- I believe it's about time folks stop saying that DID doesn't exist. i understand that it's been a controversial diagnosis for some time, but at this point, it's been formally acknowledged by accredited doctors, and quite a bit of research has been published on it. It is quite literally in the DSM and the ICD, as well as having analogous but differently named diagnostic criteria in the CCMD (this makes sense bc of the language barrier) and the PDM. I could go on to less commonly used diagnosis manuals, but I hope you see my point; it feels just as silly to insist DID isn't real as it is to insist that Pluto is still a planet or that germs aren't actually real. science is a collective body of knowledge that changes over time as more accurate information emerges, and there's just no sense burying your head in the sand.

When the brain encounters something it can’t comprehend or escape that is traumatizing, it figures out a different way to escape and sometimes the only way to escape is to dissociate; maybe the only way to deal with life when it’s very stressful is to be a different person. I tried a lot of masks on when living with my severely alcoholic father, and it’s left my unsure who I am. I’m starting to piece it back together. It’s very real. TikTok has really delegitimize the disorder, but when you claim it’s not real you’re also saying the trauma was not real or not “bad enough.”

Several years ago I developed a dorm of autoimmune encephalopathy and intermittently experienced Capgras delusion and it was terrifying. I thought everyone around me, strangers also- had been replaced by some sort of imposter with sinister motivations. It was happening once while I was at a doctor's appointment and I panicked when they said they wanted to do blood work. For reasons I can't explain, I snuck out of the office and took off bc I thought they would do something harmful to me if they got ahold of my blood. It's kind of silly looking back but it was very frightening.
