      On a 2005 5.0l Mercrusier it was on the lower left side of the engine under the alternator. For a 1987, I have no idea, you may not have one. Go to Marineengine.com and look up your engine to see if it has one. I am an contributing associate of the Outdoorsman Channel.

      I looked on Marine engine. I believe you have a different set up with a mechanical fuel pump. This filter is in a Gen 3 fuel module using electric fuel pumps. Sorry, it will not help you. There was a fuel filter in the diagram under the mechanical fuel pump. Check that maybe. Good luck. Joe

      Yea I had an alpha 1 on my old boat. Lol. But I have a 2005 sea ray 290 Amberjack now. It has this 5.0 mpi engine. Do you have to prime the filter somehow before you start it??

    I have the same problem and replaced the filter. It did not fix the problem. do you recommend having the injectors cleaned and new spark plugs? it runs excellent, just does have max power. It maxs out at 3600 rpm and should be 4400 rpm. is there another filter in the fuel tank?

      No filter in the fuel tank. I would recommend getting injector professionally cleaned. There is another video on my channel you can reference.

      Mark. I am an unpaid association of the outdoorsman channel. I had a lengthy comment discussion on this video or the fuel cooler video with a guy who couldn't get the rpms up. He finally got the injectors professionally cleaned and that solved his problem. Look for the discussion if you are interested. You can't spray carb cleaner on them, professional cleaning on a machine is different. If you have a major fuel contamination problem I would suggest also cleaning out the fuel rail. Good luck. Joe

      Mark. Look in the comments on the Gen III fuel module. It is the comments with Greg Mahanna about 1 year ago. The last couple summarize the results. He could only get up to 3500RPM. Joe

      @@joesilverbliss1721 THANK YOU, I found that the fuel is contaminated with water that was from storage over 4 years. The filters are changed and I am emptying the tank now. I have a manual pump to finish emptying the large tank. then I will change the filter again and test it.
      If it doesnt clear it I will have the injectors cleaned.

      Mark. I went down the same path. I learned a lot about ethanol fuel separation. I pumped my tank dry pulled the tank pickup and cleaned it, replaced the filters in the video, disassembled and cleaned the fuel cooler module and finally the fuel rail and injectors. Hopefully your problem is not as bad as mine. I think my boat sat for a long time with an almost empty tank of ethanol gas in North Carolina before I bought it. I keep the tank full and add fuel stabilizer. The injectors are very expensive, handle with care. Good luck.

    Am struggling to find location of fuel pump on my 2007 mercruiser 5.0 mpi. Any help out there?

    • @hatesbloomberg651
      @hatesbloomberg651 3 роки тому

      Hey lee, that year and model had the "cool fuel" filters, it looks like a box with a handle on one part that is attached to the fuel line. there is no "oil filter" looking separator. to change the filter its a 10mm socket pull up on handle and the entire thing come out, the filter slides in and the strainer is in the bottom of the cup assembly. its part# 35-8M0093688.

    how did you prime the fuel pump exactly? thanks.

    • @joesilverbliss1721

      Hi. This is what I did. With the fuel box Installed except for the fuel filter. Turn on blowers to exhaust fumes. Then take a container of gas and pour it into the hole where the filter goes. Use judgement on how much you can fill with out overflowing when you install the filter. Install filter and torque bolts evenly. If most air is out you should be ok. If you have a large filter make sure it is filled with gas before installing. We actually replaced ours yesterday and took the boat out on fishing trip while maintaining social distance from other fisherman. NY state is encouraging fisherman to get out and fish during this crisis. Be safe. Joe, a contributing associate to the outdoorsman channel.

      The fuel problem was so server it caused clogged injectors. We got them professionally cleaned. Refer to my other video "mercruiser gen III fuel module".

      Yes, it fixed the fuel issues. We had other additional issues with injectors and spark plugs that had to be fixed as well.
