Thanks so much for the support!
That shadow dragon horn emitting miasma into his bedroom for 50 years, is probably half the reason Himmel aged so drastically, and his hair fell out.
Cant wait to see what comes next!!!!🥳
Nice collab dynamics, reactions, and insights. Keep it up! Subbed.
This show is so beautiful, you guys are in for a treat
Indeed
remember the ring she had.
you'ill meet that ring 2 times beyond this episode.
I hope you enjoy this anime, it is great! The first episode of this anime was originally planned to be released as a 90 minute movie but was instead changed into 4 episodes released on the same day. To get the full sense of the anime you should watch the first 4 episodes before deciding if you want to continue. That being said I believe you will like it enough to continue the series.
I didn't know that! We definitely plan on watching the whole series!
Btw, it’s funny that you said Violet Evergarden vibes, the compose Evan Call does the OST for both Frieren and Violet
Indeed
This is a story of emotions, what they are and what they mean coded as fantasy. It is a journey of discovery very much like Violet Evergarden. (Evan Call wrote the music for both). But as you experience this story, you can watch Frieren change.
Himmel is so important to Frieren that for the rest of the anime everything will be set in how many years since his death.
whyyyyyyy ;-; my heart
3:11 with one notable exception, the names of people and places are German words.
Himmel - Sky, heaven
Frieren - (to feel) coold, freezing
Eisen - Iron
Heiter - Cheerful
Fern - Distant
Stark - Strong
Flamme - Flame, passion.
Knowing the names isn't necessary, but there is a lot of added value in symbolism.
There is a German UA-camr, Storieswithstyle, who has a lovely video going into the names (people, places, spells) used in the anime up to episode 16. It is very much worth watching, and each name is timestamped. Spoilers for the first 16 episodes tho.
There are also a bunch of Dutch names, some are obvious because the english translation is pretty much the same. Ill list a few I can think of:
Denken - Thinking
Spiegel - Mirror
Edel - Noble
Lawine - Avalanche
Serie - Series
Methode - Method
@@MrHvleeuwen no, they might be the same in dutch but those are still all german words
@@KerrMalygos Ah you're right. I didn't even realise.
I mean ehh, I meant Deutch not Dutch. ;)
Welcome to the emotional rollercoaster that is Frieren! 🙂
Expect your views and subscriber count to rise!
Personally I liked your discussion after the episode very much! Keep it up! You earned a subscription as I am curious to see your reaction and thoughts through the whole season!
And you are correct: The names not only sound German - they ARE German! All of them! And they all have meaning for the characters!
So far, we have:
Himmel = sky/heaven
Frieren = feeling cold, freezing
Heiter = cheerful
Eisen = iron
Fern = distant, far away
Flamme = flame
Ewig = eternal
Regarding the dragon horn: It is a common fan theory that the aura of the horn was responsible for Himmel aging and shrinking so much.
The blue birds are couriers in Frierens world, like the owls in Harry Potter. So far, no one knows where or to whom Frieren sent the dragon horn.
Heiter as a priest has healing magic which he probably used on himself to live longer.
And your comparison to Violet Evergarden is fitting, because there are similiarities behind the scenes. Guess who made the soundtrack for both shows? Evan Call! And his music is awesome! Looking forward to your reaction to episode 2! Greetings from Germany!
Oh thank you for adding their name meaning! So exciting that Violet Evergarden and Frieren share a composer. I loved the soundtrack for Violet Evergarden, so I know this one will be just as good!
theory: himmel aged quickly since he kept the horn
by the time episode one ends, himmel is close to 80 years old my guy. well, assuming he started the adventure by at least 15.
Very possible fan theory, but it is never explained or even revisited. For 50 years it was exuding an evil miasma in Himmel's living room. Even Frieren didn't know if it was dangerous. But Himmel's shrinking in old age is highly abnormal even for a fantasy story.
I get this theory but to me it makes more sense that it was the adventurering, he was still active until a couple years before his death, Heiter is also the most powerful priest in the world.
@@Scyon13 Certainly taking an 80 year old man on a 12 day backpack into the forest was the proximate cause of Himmel's death, and it shows how clueless Frieren really is. But while old people do lose some height in old age, what happened to Himmel is certainly not natural even for a fantasy story. The fan theory of the Shadow Dragon Horn being the cause is reasonable.
@@folcwinep.pywackett8517 Himmel shrinking as much as he did wouldn't be normal in real life, but it's a classic anime/manga trope. "Cute Little Old Man" is just the natural end-stage evolution of the "Ikemen" archetype.
It's honestly weird to me how many anime fans these days seem to not know that.
この先も度々鐘が鳴るシーンはあります🔔
それは感情の乏しいフリーレンの心が動いた瞬間だと認識しておくと、このアニメをもっと楽しめると思います😌
Exactly! The title of the work is 葬送のフリーレン can be translated as "Frieren at the Funeral" . It is at Himmel's funeral that Frieren is overcome with emotions which she does not understand. IN one real sense, the entire Journey is Frieren trying to understand humans, and her own complex emotions. The beauty of the story is that you can actually watch this happen.
@@folcwinep.pywackett8517 そうなのですね!よいことを知りました!Nurfさんにもお伝えしますね(*^▽^*)コメントありがとうございます!
Frieren deserves its title as anime of the year
Heiter is the priest
20:53 watch the opening closely to get an answer to that question 😊
"i don't know if i like this character"
believe me, you'll love Himmel for the entire series
Thank you for sharing 😊
It was interesting that you made a Violet Evergarden connection, and commented on the score, but did not notice at the beginning that the composer for this anime is the same guy who did the score for Violet Evergarden. 😉
Jokes aside, this is an anime where there are almost no insignificant details. As you watch more episodes, you might consider pausing as you react so you don't miss things.
Oh my gosh its the same composer!?? How did I miss that, ah then the soundtrack is bound to be amazing!!
@@NurfReactsit really is.
@@NurfReacts Yeah, Evan Call. I haven't actually seen Violet Evergarden, but have considered watching it on the strength of his Frieren score alone.
(I've also heard it makes people cry, and I love when things can make me cry.)
there's some theory why at the begining Himmel looks younger than Heither, while at their old age he looks older and Heither outlived him 20 years.
First theory is because the Shadow Dargon's horn that himmel keep, it corrupt Himmel health for 50 years.
Second theory is because Heither is a priest that focused on healing. And in this world, a priest has blessing from Goddess of Creation that make them invulnerable against like toxin, curse, and etc. and thats why Heither live longer than any human, while Himmel old like a normal person.
I think the second one is probably the more likely reason in-setting. Narratively, it's to make a clear visual divide between young and old Himmel. The times we see Heiter in her memories tend to vary between the young Heiter she journeyed with and the old Heiter she visited, so there's little need to treat them distinctly. Himmel in her memories though is purely the young beautiful Himmel of the past, keeping her memories of the Himmel of that era, the most important part of her life, completely pristine.
12:11 Evan Call did the music for both Frieren and Violet Evergarden.
Episodes 1-4 were released as a set and kinda form the prologue.
While everything else was released weekly, I, and many others, think watching episodes 8-10 in one sitting improves the experience. This isn't a universally held opinion tho.
Are you back? 😮 and with frieren!!!
Yes! I'm currently doing Frieren, JJK, and MHA. 1-2 vids a week 😁
more reaction video please!
When is the next video?
My mic broke and I am waiting on my replacement, apologies! It should be here this weekend though!!

Sad to hear. Waiting for the reaction ✨
you look like you not even paying attention, sad..
I hope you make as much money as you can bleeding the fan base dry, as Andrew Tate does, using Women.
