I just noticed the P0316 on my ‘06 E350 this week, first week of October, while on vacation in the mountains, with temperatures in the 20’s and 30’s. Thank you for the explanation. I was getting ready to check plugs and coils even though they were done in the last 20,000 miles. You saved me some work.
@Tony2xxxx I have not. I'm curious if I have a vaccum leak from moving pipes and wires around 1hile performing the job. It's spastic when it happens either way. The idle seems to go to crap after a heat soaked motor but I drove it from mississippi to florida for a week and didn't really have many issues
I just had this problem on a 2017 ford escape titanium (50,000 miles) with the Ecoboost 2.0 I had a light that would come on for a few days then off for a few days. Took it into the dealer and they found car was consuming coolant and it was in the oil and Ford told my dealership to replace the entire engine . If you have this issue I would strongly recommend digging much deeper into the issue because car was running fine could of easily been misdiagnosed.
I have a 2003 Ford Escape and i have a code PO316 and PO306 was told that my cat needs replacing but what really could be the problem? It drives and everything still.
I just had this code show up, along with P0300 & P0627 on a 2012 Boss 302 randomly after turning it on for the first time in about 2-3 weeks. I’m in California.
Great video, I've really struggled with Winter blend in my area as we don't have the best of fuel qualities here and fuel millage can drop sixty miles on my small tank from one station to another on my Jeep using Summer blend then Winter is even worse but I only have slight performance issues with power it seems on hard pulls.
Awesome content!! Just got a 17 GT350 and went to do emission and failed ☹️! My scsn read out said readiness monitor not ready, but I’ve driven over 400 miles. Also got the 00316 My check engine light also flashes 7 times once the vehicle is in accessory mode then turns off. I have No check engine light! Any suggestions
Very interesting. Thank you for getting straight to the point btw, and it's funny because my '06 Mustang GT has this code (since about October might I add, just like you said), and immediately I was thinking about coils and plugs haha. I aspire to be a Ford tech like yourself some day. Thanks Man.
I have an 03 Focus, mine does not run fine at cold starts it won't idle very well and usually stall a couple times. My car is old and has never been in cold weather, it's a Florida car and I'm now in New Hampshire. I have to sometimes hold the throttle down until the cars warm, them it's perfect. New plugs, good wires and coil, no vacuum leaks, good fuel pressure, no other codes except for a occasional pending b1s1 o2 code on startup that never sticks.
Thanks for posting this! I got this code last week in my 2017 mustang GT. No other codes and the code appeared before starting. Happened when i pushed the start button to turn on ignition but did not put in the clutch to start. Does this fall under the same diagnosis? Will the code reset itself or does it have to be cleared. It has not gone away since. Drives fine. Appreciate any insight.

Hey Brian, I just watched this video. My Question is my wife's 05 Taurus with a 3.0 ohv engine. I sometimes get the po300 and the po316 code. it's not misfiring and it is a flex fuel . thank you for the great content
+GREG Feeney There was a big pcm update for that year Taurus it might of even been a recall also at one point so make sure the pcm software is the latest, before that see what the pcm is inferring the ethanol content is and make sure it is close to what kind of fuel you run. Also I had one I fought for while it had this problem cold weather only and it also needed a coil pack it had lots of cracks in it.
I replaced the coil pack already because I noticed a burn mark on the bottom. It was right after I watched your video on a Taurus you did at the dealer. I appreciate the feedback and I will call the local ford dealer on Monday. Thanks for your videos and help. I look forward to your video's and insight. Quality is job one.
This may be a long comment but I really need a bit of advice. I have an 02 sable DOHC with 145k. It started with a p0301 code and then came a p0305 code. In between that time I had to fix a brake line so I did that but in the process accidentally cracked the cruise control cable guide so it would actually lodge the cable if i accelerated past 2400rpm. I drive like this for about a month but taking it slow but then i just disconnected the cruise control cable entirely. The misfire seemed to get a bit worse and usually the misfire would be worse when i'm first accelerating. If I take my foot off the gas and reapply throttle it would be a bit better. If I hit the gas hard it would hesitate then the rpm would shoot up but my car is severely low on power. If I am driving on the highway and then park I notice my rear header catalytic converter glows red, obviously it shouldnt get that hot. My first assumption is maybe the original misfire codes has caused my cats to fail. But could the misfire itself cause enough extra heat to make the cat glow red? Along with p0301/5 I also have code p0316 and code p0351 which is indicating ignition coil A issue. I have an 02 so I don't have coil packs, just wires that run to the main ignition coil under my plenum. I dont want to throw 100 bucks to replace the ignition coil without diagnosing a bit further and I certainly don't want to replace my cats if I don't have to. I just need any advice on how I can pinpoint my issue further. If I get no response I think I will just start by replacing the spark plugs and wires and see if any of the misfire codes go away. Any help is appreciated.
Also quick note: I had pulled the wire on the bottom left cylinder if you are facing the engine bay. I just pulled that wire and checked for oil in the bottom or anything funky. I didn't have a long enough extension on me to pull the plug so I just put the wire back on. Im not sure which cylinder is #1 but if that one is then that would coincide with the code being ignition coil A. I did not start the car with the wire unplugged or anything.
So, why did it come up with po304, po316 and po358? New 2004 F150 4.6 for me and it’s July I’m Virginia. I have no known maintenance information on this vehicle.
Hi there. My vehicle 2012 XR6 LPG dedicated factory. Is displaying p0316, p0306 errors. I know very little about cars. The symptoms are that on random days the first time the vehicles is started for the day it opens very rough. Idles rough and has little power. The problem persists of the vehicle is turned off and restarted or left to idle. Gently driving for 1 min rectifies the issue and it won't re oocur until a random day. Usually once a month?. Google and mechanics suggest could be cool spark plug or shaft sensors. Is there a more direct way to determine exactly what needs rectifying? Thanks for your assistance.
What's up Ford Tech MAKULOCO, I have a misfire code p0304 as well as P0316 I've watched your video and I was wondering if I fixed the P0304, don't worry about P0316 it should fix itself?, and another question in your opinion the only fix for the P0304 is either the spark plug or the coil ? If you or any of your subscribers can help me I would appreciate it and thank you and be safe
@@chiefaborigine242 thanks for replying chief, nice to hear from a native, that's exactly what it was a sparkplug, can I ask you if you knew why my Ford F-150 5.4 l 8-cylinder, acts like a bad misfire shakes and seems like it wants to stall when I come to a stop, this only happens when the temperature is below 50 degrees, and it happens every time the temperature is at 50 degrees or below I don't think it's the gas I drive the truck all winter I believe I would have I driven the summer grade gas out of the tank, unless the gas stations don't change from summer 2 winter grade in Connecticut, thank you, be safe.
I have a 2002 Ford Taurus 3.0 L with 172K miles on it that's throwing the following error codes, P0301, P0171, and P0316. The temps went from in the 40's to below zero overnight! The day before the storm hit it was running fine, WTH? This has left me in one hell of a bind and the mileage sucks dog shit! Is this the fuel like you mentioned? I have had to change the plugs, coil and O2 Sensors recently to fix a misfire condition and then it went away, now this! I'm hoping it's not an Injector! Please answer ASAP!
Hopefully can can come down since i just bought a 2017 ford escape 2 liter and got a check engine light in less than a week. According to the the scanner i'm getting a startup misfire in cylinder 3 but only ran rough for a few seconds and than went away
Looking at buying a 2003 Lincoln Aviator with a P0301 and P0316 also noticed low oil pressure light came on for a second a bit noisy on start up but seemed to smooth out 4.6lt with 200,000km Also noticed the cluster did not light up very well....Thoughts?
I have a 2013 mustang v6. It has a p0316 engine code, but no specific cylinder misfire. Car cranks fine and idles fine for about 1 min, then you can see the tach drop around 200 rpm and then raise again. Any advice?
Just set this engine in my truck, 99 5.4 (nonPI) into an 02 F150. Used PI intake on non PI engine, now getting the following codes: p0300, p0316, p0171&174. Any ideas on where to start the process of elimination?
Not sure if you will reply. But, recently I got some transmission work done on my 2011 Mustang GT. Drove it around for about 50-100 miles and I got an engine code p2098. Took it back to shop because I saw a leak at a clamp. They fixed it and code still came back. Also, when they scanned it there was a misfire of the code p0316. They cleared it and it came back on another 10 miles later. They inspected it and can’t find leaks, o2 sensors and wiring look good. They tried swapping the injector I believe to another side and it still misfired on cylinder1. The scanner is showing the spark plugs and everything are firing correctly. Any idea what it might be?
just experienced the p306 with p0316 code. could this also be a bad injector issue? already changed plugs and coil packs and cleared the DTC. it still codes both
Love your videos, I've been able to fix all sorts of things with this truck with your help. Now I'm going after a p0302 p0316 combo. Plug and coil good. Injector seems good. Took off valve cover, and have a question: all of the roller followers have a little play if not depressed by the lobe. Is that ok? Also, can I tell if the phaser is bad without removing it? 165k anyway, pronably time, but just wondering... respectfully to anyone who can offer advice
Hey love the channel! I have a 2017 MKZ with the 3.0TT AWD and I just happened to scan my car with my autel scanner for the heck of it and I had a P0316 and brake switch out of range code as well. The car is also losing a lot of oil. These codes did not turn on the CEL, I just happened to scan to check for embedded codes. I know the MKZ of this year has a TSB for oil consumption..should I be worried
The issue is with the 2002 mustang is I cannot pass emission due to the misfire code. I appreciate the video. I did change my plugs and it runs much better. I cleared the codes and hoping the error will not show up again.
I have a 07 Ford f150 5.4 Trition XLT 4 by 4 I'm having that code and misfire on number 2 and I've already replaced the coil and the spark plug and I came back on
Hey Brian, I have a question…. I just got code P0316 and P0302… now I did have a blown head gasket before on my 2017 Ecoboost Mustang and my coolant was completely gone and there was so coolant left in my coolant tank…but this time there is no coolant and my coolant is full , but yet I have the same codes as in when I had a blown head gasket last year! What can be wrong Brian this time?
I have an 04 f150 with multiple codes and P0316 is one of them along with P0302 and P0012, I have changed all the plugs, coils and VCT solenoid. any advice?
Nice! Ima still freak out though cuz mine is misfiring bad . I'm sure its the coil pack . I had to change the one on cylinder 4 a few months ago and now I'm getting codes on cylinder 6 🙄😣
I just had this code come up, I did fill up just a couple days ago - but it's Late January, so I assume the winter blend has been in use now for a couple months. I also noticed today a slight shudder at around 45 mph - Autozone was only giving me the P0316 - is this shudder related? The car runs (seems to anyway) without issues until I hit that magic speed - At first i thought the tires needed to be balanced - but now I'm not sure. Am I looking at the crankcase sensor? Which I'm assuming is the top portion of the crankcase synchroniser, and not the whole unit?
first off great video. however, i have a 2002 f150. 4.2 v6. chased down a vacuum leak and cleared codes. now i have this code (p0316) that poped up. showed up on a hot restart. other sensors still in "not ready" because i have not driven it enough to activate them. as this vehicle is 2002 and older then what you referenced my question is.... would the same apply to my truck being a 2002?
Thank you for making this video I got a 2010 F150 4.6 3v I just changed my spark plugs and coil on boot I found shaking from my motor. Hooked up the scanner found no codes until i did the koeo test and found p0316 also checked all the misfire data and found cylinder 3 with low mis fire counts should i try moving the #3 coil to a different cylinder and see if it follows? I used motorcraft sp 509 plugs
Never use motorcraft plugs, they are basically the only thing Garanteed to have a failure in a small batch. Use bosch or ngk plugs, denso if youve had experience with them but use either platinum plugs or better
Thank you for the video! I always get these P0316s in my stall and I've been wondering for a while what the hell caused them and why they seemed to pop up so randomly. Idk if it still applies in FL but these are rental cars so who knows where the hell they go and come.
Hey FordTechMakuloco, I have a flex fuel 2010 F150 5.4l V8 Locked out and Tuned giving a P0300 and P0316. You mentioned a different issue for P0316 concerning flex fuel. Do you have a video on that issue?
If I recall correctly, I had bad spark plugs. I bought some “Ford OEM Plugs off eBay that I now know where cheap fakes. Put new Ford plugs in and it fixed the issue. I damaged all of my o2 sensors in the process and ended up replacing all 4 as the code moved from one to 4 after I replaced the plugs. They were so bad the curved electro was burned off and the ceramic was nearly gone. Running great ever since. Pulled one out a couples weeks ago and it looks good. I thought I might have needed colder plugs but they looked good after a year.
@@shep00703 I have a 2006 Ford F150 5.4L 4 wheel drive. Truck has very intermittent cranking issue. It is random sometimes I can hop in and turn the key and it cranks right over with no issues but other times I turn the key and it tries to crank engine sounds like its starting and then sputters to get itself to almost idle and then it dies but then has no issue cranking after that happens. Every time the truck actually cranks over I have absolutely no issues afterward and there are no check engine lights to go off of. Ive replaced the engine air filter, fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, injectors and coil packs all within the last year and the truck still does it. I have never not been able to crank the truck eventually but this issue is so annoying and has been with the truck for a while. do you have any thoughts?
+FordTechMakuloco My 2012 Ford Focus (2.0L N/A) is badged for FlexFuel, but I only buy ethanol-free gas. What is this "whole other reason" for FlexFuel that you mentioned at the end? Thanks!
+ObsidianShadowHawk Flex fuel or E85 specifically has a real problem igniting when cold therefore sets multiple misfire codes and a p0316 plus they can be hard to start if the inferred mix is incorrect.
Hey Brian, It's March 22, and I'm driving a 05 F150 5.4. I'm getting the P0316 code. Is this caused by the same issue your discussing here? Nothing to worry about or is there another issue?
+drm315 Flex fuel or E85 specifically has a real problem igniting when cold therefore sets multiple misfire codes and a p0316 plus they can be hard to start if the inferred mix is incorrect.
Hey Brian, Great information. I noticed you said 2006 and 2007 for the DTC. I have a 2002 F150 with a 4.6 I now have 240,000 miles and the 316 code came on for the first time (also the 306 code, last week was the 303). I already changed the spark plug and coil pack for cyl 3 last week and it still ran like crap. It took a couple days before the 306 and 316 codes came on. Could I assume that the 306 is just a coincidence and replace the number 6 cyl spark plug and coil pack, and then wait for the summer blend fuel to work its way through even though my vehicle predates the DTC?
@@patrickstar5040 hey i forgot about this whole issue until i read your response. Apparently yeah, replacing the spark plugs and coil packs did solve the problem, because i haven't run into this code since. I replaced them Oct-Nov of 2021.
I bought a 2006 f150 4.6L. sometimes my truck will take 2 or 3 cranks before truck will start. when this happens I will throw a p0316 code misfire in the 1st 1000 revolutions. this dosnt occur every time its intermittent... is their anything way to get my truck to start better? where should I start? I've installed new fuel pump spark plugs and coils when I bought truck.. also is their any way to prevent that code from coming in every fall or winter.
Same here! +FordTechMakuloco, please help, whats the solution/fix for this so the engine light wont come on for the p0316 anymore? There HAS to be a fix... these cars when brand new didnt have the engine light come on every winter when it was new. There has to be a fix instead of just saying "oh well its just something you have to deal with when switching from summer to winter fuel" :-p cmon now. why didnt you add a solution in the video? Very informative yes thank you but a solution would be greatly appreciated man! And mines a 2005 mercury sable, regular unleaded fuel, not the flexfuel crap.

sorry about this unrelated quetion but i have a 15 f150 and periodically i am havei g very hard down shifta when coasting from 5th to fourth gear. afraid of future drivetrain issues.
+Marc Harris Yes your first step is getting the tsb stated below performed for the new software but also make sure they reset transmission adaptive tables and learn the shifts.
@@erick669247 not necessarily but I did end up changing all spark plugs and changing all the coil packs so far the check engine hasn't appeared with those codes.
When your motor is misfiring, in general it's good practice to start by changing out your plugs and coils since they're some of the most common faults. Other mechanics or videos aren't trying to scam you if this is what they recommend IN GENERAL, however this fine gentleman is talking about Ford-specific vehicles; and has knowledge of such issues with Fords to speak on it and provide further insight as to what the "issue" truly is! Regardless though, I would always recommend people to do their own due diligence online before bringing their car in to get it looked at.

Code po304 is a misfire in cylinder 4 check your spark plug in that cylinder or wire or coil pack
Learnd a lot keep up the good work it really helped thanks
I have a 2013 mustang v6. It has a p0316 engine code, but no specific cylinder misfire. Car cranks fine and idles fine for about 1 min, then you can see the tach drop around 200 rpm and then raise again. Any advice?
U found the solution?
Any idea what it might be?
just experienced the p306 with p0316 code. could this also be a bad injector issue? already changed plugs and coil packs and cleared the DTC. it still codes both
i have a P0316 and P0305 on my 2002 ford mustang 3.7 v6 is this something to be concerned about
Love your videos, I've been able to fix all sorts of things with this truck with your help.
I have the same codes. How did you fix?
Hey love the channel! I have a 2017 MKZ with the 3.0TT AWD and I just happened to scan my car with my autel scanner for the heck of it and I had a P0316 and brake switch out of range code as well. The car is also losing a lot of oil. These codes did not turn on the CEL, I just happened to scan to check for embedded codes. I know the MKZ of this year has a TSB for oil consumption..should I be worried
What if the code PO316 doesn't go away and the vehicle continues to misfire? Then what specific component needs to be changed?
I have a 2011 Jaguar XF and it gave me the PO316 and PO304 code. It smokes white and runs rough.....HELP!
I got a p1152 any idea new O2s still there
I'm getting this in July after changing the spark plugs in my 2011 Edge 3.5. What could that be? I verified that the gap was in spec.
The issue is with the 2002 mustang is I cannot pass emission due to the misfire code. I appreciate the video. I did change my plugs and it runs much better. I cleared the codes and hoping the error will not show up again.
Jeff Carpenter did the check engine come back

what about states like Oregon that dont switch gas to winter blend? this problem will happen anytime of the year. we get the crap gas year round
Same problem on me.did you solve it?

I'm getting this code on my 2018 f-150 but i run pump e85 it usually meters about 70% ???
My 2002 f150 keeps popping up already change the crank n cam sensor n it keeps popping up
I live in Denver Co
Great info as usual.
first off great video. however, i have a 2002 f150. 4.2 v6. chased down a vacuum leak and cleared codes. now i have this code (p0316) that poped up. showed up on a hot restart. other sensors still in "not ready" because i have not driven it enough to activate them. as this vehicle is 2002 and older then what you referenced my question is.... would the same apply to my truck being a 2002?
+Bruce B Yes it applies to your truck but the newer vehicles I speak of in the video are much more sensitive.
@@benson4u215 what u say doesnt make sense
Thank you for the video! I always get these P0316s in my stall and I've been wondering for a while what the hell caused them and why they seemed to pop up so randomly. Idk if it still applies in FL but these are rental cars so who knows where the hell they go and come.
Hey FordTechMakuloco, I have a flex fuel 2010 F150 5.4l V8 Locked out and Tuned giving a P0300 and P0316. You mentioned a different issue for P0316 concerning flex fuel. Do you have a video on that issue?
I would like to know if you found anything on this as well?
Bruuuuuh, I wish I would have known this before having all my spark plugs, coil packs and fuel injectors replaced 😭😑
+FordTechMakuloco That makes sense. Shouldn't be a problem for me then. Thanks!
Hey Brian, It's March 22, and I'm driving a 05 F150 5.4. I'm getting the P0316 code. Is this caused by the same issue your discussing here? Nothing to worry about or is there another issue?

Great to know so do I just let the gas run out and put in new gas
at least my car's are so old they just give me 2 digit codes in blinking lights.
Can you tell me about accelerator flat spot on 2014 V6 Mustang... It drives me crazy??? Any ideas?
Hey, my 05 expedition has p0316 associated with p0453 code, what is that mean?
thanks
P0316 in ecoboost engines is almost always a bad head gasket.
Did you ever figure this out I'm having this problem
@@patrickstar5040 hey i forgot about this whole issue until i read your response. Apparently yeah, replacing the spark plugs and coil packs did solve the problem, because i haven't run into this code since. I replaced them Oct-Nov of 2021.

Same here! +FordTechMakuloco, please help, whats the solution/fix for this so the engine light wont come on for the p0316 anymore? There HAS to be a fix... these cars when brand new didnt have the engine light come on every winter when it was new. OTHER VIDEOS RECOMMEND YOU CHANGE COILS, PLUGS, ETC. CHECK THIS CHECK THAT. TO MAKE MORE MONEY. I HATE RIPOFF MECHANIC.
