I mention in the video - I thinned about 10%. I measured in a cup that has ratios on it so I can measure - today I just eyeball it, but at this time I did about 10%
Hi! Not every piece has to be primed. You will prime if you are concerned about bleed through or adhesion. I was not concerned about either with this piece, so I cleaned, scuff sanded and painted.
Yes with any paint you would - it will depend on the piece - most paints don’t have (most, there are a few that do) have stainblocking primers built in. So it will depend less on the brand paint and more on the piece itself (whether it is cherry, mahogany or even some gold oaks) 😀
@@BorninaBarnBoutique I have a solid wood French provincial Buffet that I want to paint White with Wise Owl 1-Hour Enamel to save me from having to do a topcoats. Do you think that wood would bleed through the Wise Owl 1-Hour Enamel in white? (I acquired the piece is mostly down to the bare wood).
@@lavenderfields6583 So you will want to prime for sure if most of the piece has been sanded down to bare wood - not just for the bleed through factor, but the paint will soak right into the wood and not give you that nice smooth finish without priming.
Thank you so much for even replying back to me , I appreciate it more than you know ! I just got jet black and I’m getting so many mixed messages on priming first or not. They are maple dressers .
@@BorninaBarnBoutique thank you so much for replying back to me . I’m in shock lol you’re amazing ! I Look up to you :) I have maple dressers that I need to paint in jet black for someone . Wasn’t sure if priming was necessary. Again thank you ☺️
@@Jaslene218 of course! My advice from experience, black does not have to be primed if your concerned about coverage. Maple can be a little slick depending on the finish, you can clean with a deglosser like Krud kutter , scuff sand and you should be good. If your concerned about adhesion Than I would prime with a bonding primer. I have don’t it both ways depending on the piece I’m working with 😀
I have Fuji…Q5. OHE pieces turn out good and then I’ll have a piece that I get Orange peel or even gritty,. I thin about 20%. I have the most trouble with results on the top of pieces…when I spray horizontal. It’s killing me! Any tips? 1.8 nozzle (don’t have 2.0), I’m doing 2 twists on fluid nozzle. Thanks!
The Q5 I’d an excellent sprayer - I have the Q4! So orange peel can be of the material is too thick or you may have the air control valve turned down. Make sure it’s fully open. Also with water based products orange peel is the result of spraying on too thick of a coat. Try spraying light coats but still wet coats. Gritty finish is if the material is too thin - it’s being over atomized. Try thinning and again spraying a wetter coat. I lay mine down on a dolly when Im having a hard time getting a nice finish on the top.
You don't need to prime with every piece. You can, but its not an absolute with every color or piece. I wasn't worried about bleed though or adhesion. You can prime if you want every time, its just not always necessary
LaVonne Franklin you would want to ask the company on that, I’m sure you mix in 1 hour enamel with another 1 hour enamel to make a custom color, but I would not advise adding another product into their formula. Yes it’s a great paint! 😀
I did not thin - OHE is pretty thin already. I always use my standard tip 2.0mm, it’s more about the spray settings and how far back you are from the piece
Thank you so much for your tutorial!! I am redoing the kitchen cabinets and I bought a modest sprayer and hope that i can do a good job haha. I also got The OHE in Poseidon and hope all turns out good!!
Hi I finally tried wise owl 1 hour enamel but I had a few areas that crackled not sure why I prepped like always but did not prime any ideas why this occurred. Thanks Suzette
It can be prep, moisture or other products (such as silicones from previous furniture polish, etc), it’s the paint reacting with something on the surface you just can’t see. it can happen when priming too if you paint too soon before the primer is reedy. Since you didn’t prime I would have to say it was one of the other two. You will need to sand the area, prime and wait for it to really dry, then reapply your paint. I have had this happen too, sometimes we don’t know the exact reason, but it can be fixed.
@@BorninaBarnBoutique Thank you so much for the reply have you ever used any other primer with wise owl 1 hour enamel I know not to use shellac based but my local retailer is out and I need to finish the piece by this weekend. Thanks Suzette
@@suzettemenendez8570 Oh yes, I actually don't use wise owl primer. I use General Finishes stain blocker primer it is water based and can be put in a sprayer with easy clean up. I also use shellac for the bleeders (in the spray can) not in my sprayer
This was my Fuji semi pro 2. It’s a great sprayer too. They both put out very similar finishes to be honest, if I sprayed 2 pieces with the 2 sprayers, you wouldn’t be able to tell which was which. The Fuji has a bigger motor, a little better power output.
Thank you. I spray Dixie Belle paint and they have the new Silk paint line out now that I believe will be like the OHE. I’d love to try OHE to see how it looks I’ve only seen it on videos.
Okay, I have been spraying for awhile and just tried the OHE and got some orange peel. I am assuming I sprayed to thick. But boy is this paint beautiful.
Hi! So Orange peel is typically the result of the technique and can be caused by the quick evaporation of thinner, spray gun setup (e.g., low air pressure or incorrect nozzle), spraying the paint at an angle other than perpendicular, or applying excessive paint. Did you thin it at all? It is a beautiful paint.
How much did water did you add..? Thank you

You dont have to, I recommend for bleeders, if your painting white or if you have a slick surface, but not every piece needs to be primed.

I have the earlex 5500 with a 1.5 mm nozel & will be using that to spray the ohe. Will that work well with the ohe?
Have you sprayed the one hour clear coat with sprayer? Dose it need thinning?
I have not, I don’t imagine it needs thinning, if it’s anything like the one hour enamel paint, it won’t need to be,

I have an Earle 3500. For your Earlex, do you clean your sprayer between each coat of paint if you’re doing all the coats in one afternoon?
Elwoodcity Blues no, I clean once I’m done with he job. It’s ok for it to sit while your coats dry. Just don’t let sit overnight.
