Buckingham Palace's East Wing Open to the Public for the First Time!

- For the first time, the public can now experience the view from the royals' perspective as the East Wing of the palace opens to visitors.
Guided tours will include the Centre Room of the palace, which leads to the balcony.
While visitors won't access the balcony itself, they can peek through the net curtains to catch a glimpse of the view, famously enjoyed by the King and Queen as they wave to the crowds on the Mall.
It follows more than seven years of improvement work to protect the palace from fires and floods.
Small groups of visitors can tour rooms and areas like the Principal Corridor, which stretches along the wing.

I’m planning it for 15th July and it’s been my dream visiting the palace since I been to London in 2020, that royal Holocaust event is something I’ll never forget and seeing my published Anne Frank work for the first time made me cry and it still does 4 years later. I wonder where my Holocaust project is now? Even at 21, I’m still supported by the Holocaust foundation and its good to catch up with them once in a while

Buckingham Palace was built in 1847? That's a new one. Queen Charlotte must have stayed in an invisible palace. Meanwhile George IV was adding onto that invisible palace. Poor John Nash was completely wrote out of history, At least on this channel.

Buckingham Palace was NOT built between 1847 and 1849. The East Wing was built between those years.

i absolutely agree!! George IV had Buckingham House rebuilt as Buckingham Palace with john Nash as his architect. George IV never lived in the Palace, nor did William IV as it wasn't finished. The first monarch who actually lived there was Queen Victoria who had the East Wing built for her growing family. The east facade was re-faced in Portland Stone in 1913 by Aston Webb during George V's reign.

As a foreigner i am sometimes confused when some British people say the British royal family is funded by the tax payer.
The crown estate generates hundreds of millions of pounds annually of which part of it funds THE SOVEREIGN GRANT and the rest is paid into British treasury.

No, you are correct. The Monarchy brings in far more revenue than it costs to maintain.
It helps to fund government programs such as public education and the National Health Service. Never mind that it's integral to the laws and constitution of Great Britain and the Commonwealth nations.

Charles III's title is King of the UK of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of his other Realms and Territories, NOT of the Commonwealth. He is Head of The Commonwealth, NOT King of The Commonwealth.
The tax is only 77p per person in the UK towards the royal family, so not a lot. The royal family generate the rest of the money themselves.

Interesting that KC is opening up these formerly private buildings to the public for paid tours. On one hand I think it’s great on the other I wonder if this isn’t part of the “slimmer” monarchy and the first stage in turning these edifices back to the British government.

Spectacular wallpaper, curtains and light fittings! Does make me think, though, that they intend downsizing into their own "houses", and the Palace will eventually only be for State occasions, the "machinery" of the monarchy, and tourists. Kinder on them, for sure! I'm sure Clarence House and Highgrove and Adelaide Cottage etc are MUCH cosier to actually live in! Also, cheaper to run.
Buck House is not favoured by them. They prefer Windsor Castle. It's more headquarters now. He also has Sandringham, Balmoral, which he personally owns, in addition to the other Crown Estate Properties. Even the residential properties do open to the public, just not the residential areas of the buildings. There is restricted access to them when they open to the public.

I'm thinking, wallpaper glue, won't it soak through fabric and mark it? I'm interested. Here in South Africa wallpaper is not all that common. We mostly plaster and paint our walls, the logistics of hanging paper straight and with patterns matching are something else, but the thought of hanging fabric is in a whole new realm!!! Wood panelling would be a lot easier!

That would be fantastic but sadly people must be paid to maintain the building and it’s historic treasures along with security to stop people from putting a salt and pepper shaker in their pocket and the tour guides who must study information on every inch of the building, just to name a few. I’m also guessing the money will help offset the incredible amount of money needed to do the renovations to keep this building standing for another thousand years. 💕

It costs King Charles £3 million a year to maintain the house and grounds at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. It is a private residence, owned by the King. Any money brought in goes to the up keep of the building, artefacts and gardens. The gardens and some other areas of the house have been open to visitors for some time and tourism, apart from helping with the up keep also provides work for local people.

Opening it to the public means it is a place of business. Charles doesn't want to live there. So having offices and tours with tea being served and have the public pay for it frees up the cost for staff. Charles can say look at all the money im saving and I didnt fire anybody, it all pays for it self. He must realize that the photographs presented of him and Camilla in full regalia at the coronation and from the balcony were not very flattering. Having a few geriatric souls trying to stand up straight on the balcony is rather sad.

@@SomeUA-camGuy Queen Elizabeth did live officially at Buck House and other residences of theirs even as a child, but she lived mostly at Buckingham Palace once she became Queen until near the end of her life when it was being renovated and she moved permanently to Windsor Castle. Buckingham Palace has been the Monarch's official residence for a long time. Three of her children were born there.

Better idea to use Google and find out what they ARE NOT paying for. Charles is self funded by the Duchy of Lancaster and his own Crown Estate funds which provide his sovereign Grant. He gets funded security, etc, but he also pays the treasury close to half a billion pounds every year.
Taxpayers do not pay for any type of renovation with their taxes. The renovations on Buckingham Palace are coming from the profits of the crown estate. And that's the stupidest part of all because everyone wanted Queen Elizabeth II to pay for the renovations on Buckingham Palace when she already was.. that's how ignorant you people are.
