    Wow, Jordan. You've excelled yourself the MUSIC you found was tip top and the EDITING you did on the floor sequences was fantastic. This has gotta be one of your most professional and high production values videos yet. You're setting the bar rather high and you seem to have put a nice warm grade on the footage too.     Great job Jorden, but the height of the programer should be 1.2m because it could be comparing the rooms ambient temp with the actual floor temp. If so you may get a call back to say it's not working correctly. But it was the clients choice to have it hidden. So if you do go back and incur additional costs, it's only right they are passed onto the client. 😁😁😁

      Most under floor heating stats can be set to either use air temp or floor temp so it's not really an issue. A lot of manufacturers also state that they should be mounted on an internal wall, which is not possible there, sometimes you just have to do your best.

    Great job as always Jordan. I knew you would be back. The one thing I did raise last time and I still think it’s worth doing would be to show us the quality of the cabling that was above ground from the house to the studio. I would have preferred it to have been in liquid (water) seal flexible conduit to protect it from elements and being damaged accidentally. That’s a tough job but I would tell the customer it’s so worth it.

    Top tip: Put your lav mic further down your t-shirt more in the middle and will help with the audio levels when you move your head. :D Again another great video though.

    Hi Jordan, interesting video, the MCB was protecting the load through the contactor but what did you use to protect the control circuit ?. In industrial panels we would always protect the control and the loads independently, say 32amp load, 6 or 10 amp control. Thanks.

      Good point, the cold tails are now protected by a the 32a MCB. They are unlikely rated to this. Unless Jordan installed separate fused spurs for each length of mat?

      I followed the instructions from HeatMat which was to connect the cold tails in parallel to the outgoing side of the contactor, the control circuit is on a 6A RCBO.

    Good job, thanks for the video. I was surprised you used a surface pattress for the thermostat, I thought you could have flushed that in. Also, Heat Mat do ‘premium fascias’ for the controller in various finishes so it could have been fancier looking 🙂🙂🙂. And I bet you still wish you had more room in that box outside, you won’t want him to add anything else!

    Very interesting. I prefer the cable to the mat. I would have painted the face brown . Most importantly we always put down a second temperature probe and leave the leads un connected in the thermostat. Thus if the first fails the second will be an easy fix.. When you look at the system, it is the most likely to fail.. Another reason I like the cable is I can dictate the watts per sq. Meter, I.e. closer together more heat per sq meter. I’m surprised taping the floor shield wasn’t the job of the. contractor. We are required to check the resistance before unrolling and after installation.. I did a repair job for a friend who had the job done by some unprofessional people . The cable he used was compromised in three locations and the tile was already installed. That took a while and with infrared thermometers and spark generators and eight hours , we repaired it. I love underfloor heat, it’s the way to go especially if you have small children. They are always playing in the coldest region of the room, the floor and underfloor takes care if that. Less likely they will have ear infections. Thanks for your vids. Would like to stop by sometime

      We in Finland always put probe in small flexpipe so you can change it when it fails, just tape one end so when they pour concrete it won't fill that pipe.

    I installed 4 lengths of these the other month, however in the instructions it did say that every length of mat was to be fused. Did this particular mat not ask for that? Great vid as always.

      👍🏻 Grid plate and fuse each mat before going to the contractor otherwise only covered by the 32A RCBO..., totally agree, - apart from that, quality install!

I really would like to know what you mean as you sound like you know about this more than I

      LAsparkTV Wire&Test Limited I think what he’s saying is he would have fit a box with gridswitches with a downrated fuse in for each individual heat Mat so in this case 2 fuses on a grid switch in the enclosure so that the heat Mats was not supplied directly by the 32 amp 60898 mcb

    Having the floor probe in-between the elements of only one matt would mean if that matt fails the other wouldnt ever turn off as it wouldnt have any sensor to trigger the stat

    Hello Jordan, I was wondering if you have any information about the insulation under the heating element, is it possible to use something else other than the heat mats, in our country they are not available. I am planning to install underfloor heating in the house but I have issues with the floor hight, a part of the room is about 5cm higher than the rest, so I was planning to lay down some denser styrofoam, since we don't have heat mats. What do you think, would it hold up? Than in advance.

    The thermostat you said needs to be at 1.5m but then put it a lot lower is the height allowed at what ever suits or is there some sort of regs that determine the height?

    The 1.5m thermostat height only applies to room thermostats measuring room air temperature but this system uses its own temperature probe so can go at any height

    I am not a fan of electric heating full stop, it's just too expensive to run.
    I have had a few of the temperature probes randomly go open circuit, so on the odd occasion I do install it, I now install 2 probes and leave the other in the back of the box for future use.

      The floor sensor should be mounted inside the pipe and the wire routed through the pipe to the thermostat. Thermostats and sensors are prone to breakdown and different thermostats use different types of sensors. When this breaks down the thermostat eg. 10 years from now, you can not be sure that you get the same type of thermostat to replace it.

      @@peto22 the thermostats can use either floor sensor or air temp, so there's no need to worry what may happen as you can just set it to air temp, if it were to fail.

    Great vid, this is why I value AC so much. not a huge amount on cost difference to install in a space that size. However it’s an all year round climate control, heating and cooling along with the dehumidifying functionality it would serve that room very well. Also massively cheaper to run than underfloor heating. Nice installation as always though.

      A heat pump would be a good choice but, maybe the customer didn't want to see the indoor units on the wall going by the fact he didn't want to see the small thermostat. Also i do like a warm floor on a cold day

    Didn't the customer consider a heat pump? Would have used less than 1/4 of the electrical power and you can also use it in the summer for cooling.

      I was going to say the same thing - but maybe the noise (even though good units like Daikin are very quiet) would be a problem in a studio?
      Also - what breaker did you use to power the thermostat and the coil side of the contactor - should be on a 6amp breaker I think.

      @@Richardincancale Here in CZ we connect thermostats and contactors to 2 Amp type C MCBO Heating mats have RCD and usually each separate MCBO.

      LAsparkTV Wire&Test Limited Yes I saw his reply to that effect. But the video showed him having only three slots left, 2 for the contactor and one for the 32a amp MCB to feed it. I guess he must’ve used an existing 6 amp MCB elsewhere in the board.

    Did you just connect 2 cold tails in the end based on your floor measurements. I guess you didn't need the 3rd smaller piece. And does the thermostat support smart connectivity for remote management of the heating

      Yeah I just used the two in the end. The stat is a WiFi one so they can control from their smart phone etc

    Had a question Jordan, was wondering was there any controls to the contactor controlling temperature?
    Because as far as i understand, the thermostat would just power up the a1 a2 terminals in the contactor, sending power to the the mats, but how is temperature controlled?

      Pause at 14:52 and you'll see there's a backwards L shape in white tape going along the edge of the floor then between the heating cables. If I'm not mistaken that's a floor thermometer to measure the temperature, which runs back to the thermostat. So when the floor hits the max temperature it's set for the thermostat will turn off the contactor.

      No because 1 stat is controlling the coil of the contractor but the contactor will power both mats once the stat calls for heat.

    What circuit did you take a feed to the thermostat? I assume the 32A goes straight into the contactor but there would need to be another feed to the thermostat to control the contactor coil.

      I used the lighting circuit as a control circuit as well so the thermostat is on a 6A RCBO

      So it’s ok to power the thermostat from a fuse spur on its own rcbo fused down to 3A along with the contacter been ran on a 32A. With the out going side of the thermostat running back to the contractor with the cold ends from the mats.

    Another great video Jordan 👍🏻. Wondering if you carried out an insulation resistance test between the two heating cores and earth sheath? Had a floor tiler damage the last one I installed so failed an IR test! Had to get warmup engineer out to locate and repair the matt (that was interesting to watch)

    Rcbo to protect under floor heating, you will get nuisance tripping also the contactor should be spaced away from the protective devices to prevent heat transfer from the coil of the contactor on to the protective devices and vice versa.
    The thermostat with not control the true temperature of the room. As such it is not installed to the manufacturers requirements .

      Why would he get nuisance tripping ? I haven’t installed many underfloor heating systems, but the ones that I have done, the manufacturers instructions have always stated that the install needs to have RCD protection. To date i haven’t been called back to any of them for nuisance tripping ?

      @@darrenqualters2341 it a resistive load with the contactor switching on and off the rcbo will see the imbalance between the live and neutral. This will happen over time.

      Steve H the contacteur does not turn the rcbo on and off it stays perm on the contacter open just like a relay allowing the power the continue through

      @@leeburnside735 yes it know that. The rcbo wants to see a balance between the phase and neutral when this balance goes out of kilter the rcbo will trip. This can happen with resistive loads and can be problematic due to the in rush of current when the thermostat calls for heat or when switching off when the required temperature is achieved. Also the contactor is being switched by the thermostat and if both poles don't engage or disengage at the same time this can cause the rcbo to see the imbalance between the phase and nuetral and trip. Which is classed as nuisance tripping. Just stating my observations and personal preference. Either option is compliant to BS:7671

    I have installed electric underfloor heating on small household floor areas within existing buildings.
    For such a large floor area I feel that ground or air sourced heating would be a more effective long term solution.
    Naturally the installer has no influence on the client’s choices.
    If building conversions and new builds had to conform to the highest levels of energy conservation then this type of installation would not be necessary.
    Energy conservation in buildings is so important for the long term sustainability of human life on earth, particularly in the wealthy economies whose present carbon footprint levels are unsustainable.
    USA = 16 tonnes carbon dioxide per person per year. Europe/UK and other rich economies = 6-7 tonnes per person per year.
    A so called developing country like Uganda is at 0.1 tonnes per person per year.
    I am not knocking this installation, rather I am questioning the efficacy of electric underfloor heating vs a wet system, or raised insulation levels which make conventional heating systems unnecessary, combined with mechanical ventilation and heat recovery,.
