    A brickie told me you should always drill into the brickwork as it will stay solid forever whereas drilling into the mortar bed they crumble over time. That’s why older houses often need repointing. Love the videos and your work ethic btw. 👍

    • @artisanelectrics
      @artisanelectrics  4 роки тому +5

      Thanks for the tip! I think I’ve done too much work in old listed buildings where you’re not allowed to drill the bricks 😂

    • @stephenjones9153
      @stephenjones9153 3 роки тому +1

      I'm 62 now and have always mounted to the bricks and never the Mortar, you can hang off the charging cable and it will never pull the charger off the wall even if you forget and drive away.
      A couple of good tugs on the charging lead and the charger will fall off Guaranteed.

    just wanted to say that i do love your videos, i was an electrician to the 17th edition but after the 18th came out i decided to retire, but looking at your videos, you are a man after my own heart, a bit OCD, like everything to be perfect, and the EV charger in Peckham, that consumer unit was horrible with all the insulation on cables cut so short. keep up the good work.

    Water drainage pipe that close to the breaker unit would be a major problem if you had a blockage or waste problem
    You should relocate it.

    Watching from Australia having just bought a 3 SR+.
    In Aus, all Tesla's come with the Gen 2 HPWC so will be installing that (only single phase like you so will be 32A).
    Interestingly in Aus we are required to have an isolater/switch near any EV charger.
    Surprised the UK doesn't have this requirement given you do have switches on far lower powered wall points

    I thought I was being helpful by leaving the spare busbar ready for the next guy ( same as here) but I got a telling off by my Elecsa inspector for leaving it in the board. He said it was a contaminant and shouldn’t be there and made me take it out during the inspection visit

  • @eric4709
    @eric4709 4 роки тому

    Nice to see how you connected to the existing DB and the use of those wall SWA clips ( really good) which is all common to general ccts , But ...
    ..... What would be good is : To see more about the EV testing itself which is more relevant ( in compliance with BS7671: 2018 section 722 Amd 1 ) and how the ZAPI EV charging unit complies with the requirements in BS761 2018 sect 722 regarding connecting to TN systems
    - you mentioned this right at the end .. but rather glossed over it.

    I think the government made a mistake with the whole EV market. From the start they should have said when you have a charge point installed in your home it needs a separate meter, that way they can charge vat at 20% and calculate fuel duty.

    Have you seen JW’s video on EV chargers? Also, could you give us a demo of the charger in use showing us what sort of current it pulls etc, perhaps even if you could turn the electric hob/oven on to demo how it ramps back to stay under the maximum demand. Excellent video otherwise, would it be possible to wire the charger into the outside box (main incomer) with just a small main? I would be more comfortable with that amount of load staying away from my house’s main CU.

    Great video, thanks. I'm a Model 3 owner and in the process of moving to be able to install a charger.
    You mention that you didn't want to see so much cable on the outside, which looks great, but was there any technical reason you couldn't continue to the meter box and put your cable in through the wall using whatever hole is already there for the existing cables? Thanks

Something that can take an hour with a shitty tools, can take 1-2 minutes with proper drill bit and drill. Love my long SDS plus drills. But the longest I own is 45cm. I guess having a longer one could be handy, but I am not a professional electrician :)

    A good informative video on car charging, I have been approached to install my first car charger and this has helped.
    On my particular installation I think I am going to have issues with loading, which ,without going into details is my problem, the other issue is that it is on a TT system so I will need to look at the RCD issues as all parts of the installation are required to be protected.
    Lastly, I did not see you re-configure the Neutral and Earthing connecrions at the Distribution Board after you bumped along the Mcb's, not saying you didn't do it but it makes testing the installation a bit easier for the poor bugger who has to do the godforsaken task if all the circuits are numbered up correctly
    I will also be looking at the Zappi as an option and offering it to the customer after your comments on other brands , such as Rolec which is what we are being offered at our local wholesalers.

  • @davidhongkong5657
    @davidhongkong5657 Рік тому

    Very helpful video, but one thing I may have missed is a clear statement of voltage - is it 220 or 240 volts? And, what is the charging rate in Amps or Watts? I live in Hong Kong and our standard supply is 220 volts and a geat many vehicles plug into a domestic standard 13 amp socket for EV charging. A friend's car uses 12.3 Amps for charging. The unknown is the next higher rate of charging. One neighbour with a Tesla uses 25 Amps for charging. The company meter is rated for 10 to 100 Anps AC. Three phase charging for EV's in my estate is a non starter because the local company - China Light and Power - would have to rewire the whole estate and build between 6 and 10 new sub stations to handle the load IF all the houses (5,024) wanted to charge EV's and run a home at the same time. Your comments would be helpful for background knowledge.

    I'm researching what work I might have to have done to fit an EV charger. I have a 100amp fuse/switch. Doing a load calc 40 + (0.4x(32+32+16+6+6+6)) + 30.49 for the charger = 109A which exceeds the 100A. It looks like you have a greater demand on your CU. Is this only ok as your zappi has load management?

    What’s to stop someone from having a bog standard 32amp socket installed, and use the cable that comes with the car or buy another charging cable (like the one from Ohme)... surely that wouldn’t need an Earth rod, and would be cheaper than buying a home charger unit. Maybe not a perfect solution...

    Enjoy the Tesla. Not sure the washing machine waste pipe that close to the consumer is such a great idea I would put it back further just in case water was to back up and on the consumer unit. Rare but you never know. Off cuts sell them back and get a nice bottle of wine to enjoy with the Missus.

    Hi Jordan, Looking at getting an EV charger installed at my house. Im with Octopus, Would you still recommend the zappi as an EV charger or is there any others that you would favour now? How has your experience been with the zappi?

    2:45 Funny that this house looks same as the last video where do you talk about the charger station and the video before where do you install cables. I know this washing machine some minutes later. Why YT talk me that this Video is 5 hours old?

    Great vid, just starting my training on these. If the customer has a home battery system would you have done anything differently? What considerations for feeding back into the grid other than the 100 amp fuse? Cheers

    I know it's not the main subject of the video, but when you touched on Nest products... would not recommend the Nest smoke detectors. Recently had a kitchen extension built, had to install a heat detector that can also talk to the other detectors in the property. Nest offer no Heat detector, ended up switching everything to Fireangel who offer similar smart features.
