From what I can tell, the first two projects aim to replicate the final product/style of Disco Elysium, whereas the third, Summer Eternal, aims to reproduce the spirit *behind* Disco. Which I feel will produce more fruitful results, even if they make something that looks nothing like the original.
A good way of putting it. Definitely going to keep my eye on what each has to offer but I’m absolutely more interested in what summer eternal will bring to the table.
My first reaction to Summer Eternal was that I just hope they have all the money they need to fuel the project. As we all know, and learnt even through the game, some of these artistic endeavors don't turn into anything because money just runs out. That is the careful dance that needs to happen between art and capitalism. If these guys are not going to entertain any sort of profit margin agenda, they will really need to find patronage from somebody that supports the project unconditionally and that has plenty of money to spare... Because as much as I would love for art to thrive without the need of investors, at the end of the day the people making the game have to eat. And the money to buy food and pay rent has to come from somewhere. But we all know this... But if Argo and other known faces are behind the project, I am sure the community would gladly support them, if anything at least to spite Ilmar Kompus and what remains of what was once ZAUM.

Disco Elysium splitting into three separate worker co-ops all claiming to be the successor of the original is as much of a commentary on communism as the game could ever hope to be.

In this story, Ilmar Kompus is our Judas Iscariot, and the corpse of our most holy psychointrospective art project has vanished from it's grave - not because it decided to walk among us again, but because disco-necromancers each tore a limb from it, hoping to conjure something which will match - or perhaps surpass - Elysium. Oh thank you so much for explaining this all so articulately! As a newer fan, I was reading some of the articles coming out about this but kept getting confused on who was who, and which team were made up of what. It’s all a bit of a mess and easily misunderstood if not well versed in the lore, which I suppose is fitting for a game like Disco Elysium. Like you, I’m keeping an eye on all of these games, and look forward to playing them all upon their eventual release, but the latter two gaming companies seem to probably be the most exciting in terms of who they are made up of, and the kind of thing they might make.
We might have gotten a better _game_ from the full united team with the original IP, but with the three separate teams, we have a _precedent._ We have a _genre._ This could be the beginning of an entire generation of Desqueo.
DISCO forever baby! Caution should be taken however, none of them will probably be as good as the Original (maybe.... time will tell). But Disco Elysium was Unique, so it all comes down to WRITING and STORY TELLING, the Art was nice too. Yup, that Trailer gives on serious Disco vibes.
I'm so fucking excited for a person that has repeatedly stopped after a few hours of play, never actually finishing the damn thing. Two birds with one stone is luck, but to hope that three stones will hit at least one bird is reasonable.
I got shivers from the trailer. The voice. The music. Good god. It’s not a direct sequel but the vibes are crazy. + the detail “someone was looking for you all weekend, tried to contact you” reminds me of the fact Kim in DE was looking to meet Harry for all weekend before their actual meeting. I just love this detail. I really hope these games will be as good as DE.

Destiny 2 and su1cide squad doesn't exactly jump out at me as confidence inducing examples of writing
No not a great footing but I assume he’s one of many so let’s see
i want to be hopeful
we are so fucking back🙏
i feel like the we are aback with the second studio cause
it has a lot of potential
DISCO forever baby! Caution should be taken however, none of them will probably be as good as the Original (maybe.... time will tell). But Disco Elysium was Unique, so it all comes down to WRITING and STORY TELLING, the Art was nice too.
Yup, that Trailer gives on serious Disco vibes.
This is literally the second half of death note in a nutshell:
im bouta disco all over this elysium
Please oh please tell me i’m not dreaming!
there will never be anything like it.
3?? Holy shit they're multiplying
We are so back 🎉
I'm so fucking excited for a person that has repeatedly stopped after a few hours of play, never actually finishing the damn thing.
Two birds with one stone is luck, but to hope that three stones will hit at least one bird is reasonable.
YEAAAAAHHHHHHH
HARDCORE
@@schmon8409 HARDCORE TO THE MEGA
Want to point out Rue Valley, which is also a very Disco-like game to get hyped for.
As glad as i am to see this happening, what happened to the potential sequel will always be such a sore spot...
Your video description has a spelling mistake.
Thanks for the news! Very excited.
That's disco bro
I am extremely happy about this, but I will still treat such news with caution. After all, too little time has passed
Although to hell with it.
HARDCORE TO THE MEGA!!!
Think the third game is going to be the true successor of disco elysium, the others seem like an attempt to copy the aesthetic of elysium, whereas the third one seems to be speaking from the heart and being true to itself
Same, it actually sounds interesting
My happiness is dripping from my pants leg
As Stalin said, "It became better to live, to live became more cheerful!"
So the only studio that we know to have at least some of the writing talent is Summer Eternal? Yeah, I can see why it seems to be the most promising.
I want to believe that all this is just a middle finger to ZA/UM and all the studios are working on a single game
HOLY SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT
Robert will get something done sooner or later. That is if he's still interested in making a game. I'm not sure about all those other companies. They haven't proven they can do it yet.
"Holy shit 3 cakes"
It's an insulindian miracle
I might actually cry... Someone pinch me, I'm not actually convinced I'm not dreaming /hj
I want to be a member of the board on Summer eternal. Even a little
Mhmm, very interesting. I gues Elysium will find us again
I think the true successor to me will just be whichever one gets Sea Power to do the music again 😂
god I love fan works
to me nightshift and summer eternal seem the most disco to me, except i feel nightshift will be its own great experience and summer eternal will be the true disco elysium spirital successor,
the longdue one doesnt seem Bad but out of the 3, i feel its not gonna match DE, but i dont doubt itll be good nonetheless
No number of “spiritual successors” can fulfill the need to know more about what happened/happens next back in Revachol.
Agreed but maybe we were in denial about that possibility all along?
I need a tequila sunrise right now
I am buying all four (including the Rostov and Kurvitz studio that predates all of these) companies' games and I will wallow in them like a pig in filth.
This shit got more partitioned than the ussr
AIGHT WHEN IS PUNK ELYSIUM COMING OUT ????
Un jour je serai de retour près de toi.
One day I will return to your side.
