A few years back I messaged the band on Instagram and asked them what their inspiration for this song and the "midnight on a beach in the Mediterranean" was from.. they told me it was inspired by a beach in Alicante, Spain.... someday my toes will touch the sand of beaches all over the Mediterranean Sea
Wow! I was thinking about this song when I was at a castle on a hill in Alicante. It was during the day, but it was beautiful. I appreciate this song even more now ❤
I remember being like 21 in a band. My drummer brought this album into the practice studio and I was like, "Minus The Bear, what a sick fucking name for a band." That was almost like 20 years ago now.
I got stuck in Italy for 9 days longer than i was supposed to be there and I remember listening to this song while actually sitting on a beach in some small town at night. It was one of those moments in life were you feel like you're in a movie and whoever your thinking about in that moment is thinking about you too. Perfect.
Midnight on a beach in the Mediterranean And I miss you Even here, taking it all in The sand's silver carries the moon on it's shoulders Is it possible to put this night to tune and move it to you? Not many songs give me chills like that opening verse does. I remember when I first heard this on a friend's Myspace page back in the day (I'm talking WAY back in the day). I was taken aback by the sheer beauty of it. Needless to say, I then became a Minus the Bear fan for life. Truly a magical sound. Everyone should listen to this track at least once.
I remember first listening to this in around the summer of 2007 when I was four. My aunt, who was only ten years older than me and into the whole "scene" at the time, while babysitting me at my grandmother's house, would always be watching music videos on the OnDemand service my grandma had. Although she was kinda being irresponsible for not watching me, I would almost always be parked in front of the TV as well. Because of this, I observed all the music she listened to and what she liked. She's the reason I started really loving music. She pitched in to include me in her going to concerts for bands we both loved like Paramore, Cobra Starship, and Panic! at the Disco, to name a few. She hasn't died or even moved out of the area, but we've grown farther apart over the years, though. She's often busy with work. Every time I see her, whether it be a holiday or a quick visit to her job, she's always filled with some sort of stress and agitation, the total opposite of her demeanour when we would spend time together in my early childhood, and although I understand the toiling she does to make a living and that she's an adult now, she's still a carefree ninth-grader in my head. Hearing this takes me back to the memories of the many spring breaks and summers we spent together, memories in which I can, unfortunately, only partially recall. This song makes me reflect on that tightly-bound friendship that was unraveled through years of separation and cynicism. My biggest regret is that I took some of these moments with her for granted, because now as a sophomore in high school I'd do anything to go back to 2007 again.
Amazing, relatable, heartfelt stream of thought here. The fact you had the EQ, self awareness, and skills to write this as a sophomore in HS is impressive. Cheers to you, family memories, and good music!
So this song is basically about a man being in a beautiful place, so beautiful that he wants to share this experience with his girlfriend, though she's far away. So he tries to "put it into tune and move it to her". So beautiful...
Kevin Chambers put me on to Minus the Bear. This is 2019 and I am finally discovering this little hidden gem. I am in love. This week is Kevin Chamber’s last week at work. I will miss you Kevin Chambers. Thank you for this gold mine. I love you.
Part 2 is still one of the most magical experiences I've ever had in music. It puts me in such a beautiful contemplative mood. I can't stop listening to it once those eerie synths from Dr Lling bring forth those beautiful opening guitar chords. And that muted chord around 0:45.. That just snaps the padlock shut. I'm hooked.
I had a boyfriend in high school, who was my first love, who listened to this song often. I was trying to remember this song for ages and the name never came to me. Last night I had a dream about said boyfriend and it was so real. I woke up and thought of this song and the name popped in my head instantly after months of trying to think of it. It was 2006/2007 since the last time I heard it 😭
By far this is THE greatest song Minus the Bear has ever created. This song really does bring tears to your eyes while also calming the spirit and setting your mind at ease. Absolute Perfection Witnessed by All. :)
because pachuca, mexico is where the girl is having a sunrise while he is at the mediterranian beach at midnight. its a long distance relationship song. he wants to share the same emotions he's getting from the mediterranian, hence "dont cry ill bring this home to you, if i can make this night light enough to move".
I'm so happy this specific upload is here still. I remember watching this video in my first year of highschool close to 15 years ago lol. I listened to it so many times in a row and then I followed MTB until they broke up 😢 Still my favorite band of all time 💜
This is a city for not sleeping And the clocks are set by feel At this moment from where I sit, None of it seems real So much love for Minus The Bear & this song!
Saw Minus the Bear at Reading Festival this year, completely stoned out of my mind wearing a fur coat that I had bought from a charity shop there. And when they played this song I literally cried with happiness. Best band ever, just thought I'd share that with you guys haha :)
Kiawa Island, night time, on the beach with a completely open sky. the full moon reflected off the water. no lights to hinder the stars' appearances, and this song playing through my headphones. ive never felt so much peace and blissfulness in my life
This song used to be my best friends favorite before he passed in 2009 and I haven't heard it in so many years :( facebook reminded me I posted this song in 2010 :(
Airricuhh Von Fratt Me and my best friend used to spend all day skateboarding driving around in his car looking for new spots to this, it was our favorite but he passed away as well and this song brings me back to then. Sorry for your loss, but atleast we have this beautiful little time machine to share together
when they came to oaktopia 2015 I was sad of i couldn't go see them but was playing golf and I could here the echoes of this song from oaktopia it was the most beautiful nostalgic filling ever. My friend that showed me this band back in 2011 was there playing golf with me and two other homies.
Omg brings back the best times of my teenage life going to shows to see my crush/boyfriend. Living in the best generation had some amazing times!!!!! Amazing vibes 🖤 take me back!
I remember finding this song with a whole list of other songs. On my psp as a child. It’s was on a rss channel. And over the years I’ve been finding all those songs one by one. Hopefully before I pass and leave this world. I’ll find them all and pass them down to my kids.
this song, this feel... damn, it always takes me back, got an album like that? the first time I was back in Florida after leaving her, I was in the Keys, the beautiful Keys, Islamorada, with my little Ipod mini, remember those, my toes, dangling in the transparent azure ocean waves swaying, the only soul at the end of the straight out dock lined with lights like a photo, watching thunderstorms come in like castles of invading nation states, floating battle stations in their own space, separated and yet almost in formations, sparks of lightning- emanating, a show, just for me, just for me to know, she was listening...
I last minute saw incubus was playing while living in Hawaii then saw minus the bear was the opening band so I booked the ticket without having anyone to go with.....had a damn blast 💕
This is so nostalgic... It gets me thinking of hearing this muffled from my sister's radio while she was in her room, this song on CDs she burned and her iPod... She unintentionally introduced me to a lot of really good music growing up and now that I'm older it makes me appreciate how much she influenced my taste in music. I miss her.. But this just brings back so many good memories!
I never get tired of this song. I've been watching it here since you first posted it jamie, back when it had only a thousand views. Thanks so much! I'm really glad MTB's popularity went up over the years - finding live videos of Pachuca Sunrise/Absinthe/anything really was so difficult back then. I've seen MTB live 5 times now and counting. Every time I've seen them after they released Menos El Oso, they've ended with Pachuca Sunrise - after having a beer of course.
i discovered this band about 5 years ago and lost tracks i had on my old phone and couldn't think of the bands name and kept researching and finally came across them ....Love this band!
This song bring me back to my high school days. It always makes me think of the gym class we had once a year where we were tested on how fast we could run a mile; I was always middle of the pack in soccer practice and could never beat a 7:30 mile & ran it in 6:20 when I found this song and downloaded it to my iPod - yes an 📱! The good ol days. That gym class taught me, with the assist from minus the bear, that I can push myself to do much more than I ever thought possible. This for the upload. 🙏
MTV use to use the instrumental of this song for commercial breaks. They would play the song and they'd show a line-up of bands playing in the area with dates and locations. This was summer 2004 if im correct. Anyways I remember hearing this and just reminiscing being 18 and not having a care in the world. 2004 to 2007 were awesome times to be in Southern California.

This has always been my favorite song, but I've been so preoccupied with "life" that I forgot about it. It's been a year since I last heard it, and right now it's bringing back so many happy and sad memories that I can't contain my emotions right now... it's so beautiful
the first time i ever heard this song was right before my freshman year of college. i've been out of school a few years now and i can't think of a better song/band to take me back to some of the best years of my life :)
This brings back so many memories
I love that your name is a smashing pumpkins song.. cheers!
Ava Adore scene emotions
Ava Adore yes
Ava Adore me too, I can barely listen to this if that makes sense (in a good way)
Word

1000th comment.
31 y.o. here going on 32. This takes me back to my mid to late teens. I miss those times. I miss all the years of my youth.
Yeah I'm mid 30s never heard it until now, definitely would've fit right in.
Completely agree with ya. I'm 32 now. Still remember the day this was on Fuse TV and I was 15 YO. Take me back!
I remember being like 21 in a band. My drummer brought this album into the practice studio and I was like, "Minus The Bear, what a sick fucking name for a band." That was almost like 20 years ago now.
Same. This is one of the bands that got me through high school.
Exact same
I got stuck in Italy for 9 days longer than i was supposed to be there and I remember listening to this song while actually sitting on a beach in some small town at night. that's awesome man...moments like that are rare! bless...
+Andrew Santagata (Sandrock22) Moments that leave you breathless.
+Andrew Santagata (Sandrock22) I wish I could live in that moment
Everyone can have that moment, just need to find your song, your place, your time and it'll happen.
Andrew Santagata emo....
This song has aged like fine wine. I miss math rock sooooo much
I don't think this is math-rock.
Midnight on a beach in the Mediterranean
And I miss you
Even here, taking it all in
The sand's silver carries the moon on it's shoulders
Is it possible to put this night to tune and move it to you?

Julian Maldonado this album the two after are good this is there best
Still their best song in years. They need to rediscover this sound.
this and Dr.LLing is the best sound
dr l'ling is not their best sound . fav songs for me are ice monster and double vision quest
you gotta be crazy as hell if Dr.LLing isn't one of their best.
that song gives me chills while it relaxes me.

Menos El Oso is such a classic record. It was the soundtrack to my life for a good year or so.
My 1st bf , James, in high school, introduced me to this music....Explosions In The Sky & Minus The Bear.
Pachuca, Pachuca... so far. I remember you with this song, my precious windy lover, for I am coming home someday.

Anyone here in 2023?
Showed this song to my wife. She now likes the band more than I ever did.
Am I the only one that thinks they sound like Incubus a little bit? Really good song though.
oh god please don't say that.
i can't stand incubus but love minus the bear.
***** Interesting, I love Buckethead, and Minus the Bear, and find most of Incubus to be pretty average, although there are some good songs I grant you
Bucketheadhead Average? I think you should listen to those guitar riffs again! They're awesome! :-)
Wow. You really are the only one that's awesome.
I think they sound more like Portugal. The Man. But fuck yeah Incubus woo!

two or so years ago this song along with others by minus the bear seemed like the soundtrack of the misery/happiness of the time, crazy memory recall
