Duct Tape Drags 2023: Flat Towing, Bus Adventure, and Missed Shift.

- I took the DIY Funny Car (Jeep) to the Duct Tape Drags in Tucson, AZ. Of course, just getting there was an adventure, because I decided to flat tow it behind the 1953 Kenworth Bus. Even though a lot of things went wrong, the important stuff went right. It was a big adventure!
I really appreciate David Freiburger for keeping this show going. I really like the atmosphere, and having my car judged by him and Steve Dulcich was one of the highlights for me.

I wonder if you realize how much joy you bring to others by watching your genius and problem solving talent.
Thanks for another fun adventure.
*- Agreed, Joseph. Thanks for saying better than I what I was thinking, too.*
Man, that’s awesome to get such high praise from Mr Freiburger. Well deserved. Bravo! Looking forward to the next video.
That bus is really cool, you've done a great job getting it back into reliable condition. And your backyard gasser is awesome, I think you should keep your eye out and try and horse trade yourself a big block for it. Or maybe turbocharging? I'd love to see the way you go about building a turbo kit with only used/free parts, your skillset and attitude makes for great learning and entertainment. Regardless, a great video from one of my favourite channels.
I reckon a compressed air supercharging system could make a lot of power gains, and he's probably already got all the necessary bits laying around.
A total go-wrap... but myself, yah, think you could spend a bit more time on the bus as you're probably going to have and use it the rest of your days. TBH, 13 in that jeep is about 13 seconds faster than I'd want to drive it 🙂
Looks Factory
LMMFAO!!!
😆😅😂😂😆🤣😆
Dude! The Jeep did an awesome job and so did you especially considering the little bit of practice you’ve had in it. Drive on man you’re the best in my book!
for sure!!
Dude, you're awesome!! I've been trying to break into 13s with my 97 5.2 AWD ZJ and its not easy to do without spending lots of cash which isn't happening.. I can't wait to see what you're gonna do next!!
Might look sketchy but in reality it’s pretty well put together.
In comparison , Years ago they used “muffler molly” exhaust tubing for frame rails and roll cages in the early drags.
“Wild Willie” Borsch of the “Winged Express” Top Fuel Altered was interviewed in a Hot Rod magazine article as revealing that back in the day they just used exhaust tubing or “muffler molly” as he called it, for frames and cages.
If they wrapped it up into the wall they would just cut off the bent parts and weld in new exhaust tubing. Ready for the next weekend.
Interesting story….. scary if true, but Willie Borsch worked at a muffler shop in LA in the 50’s-60’s so the story is probable.
Watching you shift the gears with acceleration building, seeing the rival car over your shoulder going even faster makes an exciting action movie
Love all the praise from Freiburger! Would have been interested hearing what Dulcich had to say about it too :D
Casual background audio of THE David Freiburger saying you're legit. Big congrats, my guy. You're doing good work.
Thanks for the towing review along with your race results!
Dear LBG
👍👌👏 Yes, I totally agree, you and your vehicles did well. I hope to see you investing a bit more work in the bus. This good old family vehicle definitely deserves it. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck especially health to all of you.
glad to see you had fun makes me want to try some drag racing
I really enjoy your videos and your sense of humor. I still think your video on the small boat in the kids swimming pool has to be the funniest video I've ever seen on you tube.
Definitely a win, win, win, win, win. On the edge of my chair the entire video. One of the bestest on UA-cam 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for showing the world you don't need something new to have a good time! I don't care for the new stuff. Cost to much and is it any better when u crash it? Love your simple style. I have been dragging broken parts over boulders for years. And I don't wanna quit because I have young ones running around. Redirected funds! Thanks
Great Job, buddy! Love your channel!
I was looking forward to seeing this ever since I saw your car in another channel! Great job!
I used the Hopkins trailer light adaptors on several motorcycles, with no issues.
My Nighthawk has 4" bus taillights (LED) added to the ammo box panniers & I wired them to be taillights, brake lights, and turn signals, with the stock (center) taillight wire cut (so it's brake light only}.
Nice! I bet that bus was also a conversation starter in the pits!
Excellent, thats the funniest vehicle on the track i reckon, love the mgb suspension, Extremely popular amongst uk hot rodders.
Hi so much great all round entertainment ,many many thanks from Nr Liverpool UK.
Excellent video. Enjoyed the racing.
looks like a win win win all the way nice to see a plan come together good job looking forward to the next video
I love your attitude of seeing everything as an opportunity, even when most would give up.
And the lope of that engine! Sounds similar to the intro to Hot for Teacher
You inspire me to learn more about cars. Can’t wait too have a driveway that holds a project vehicle in addition to the daily!
You have the best Videos.......your DeadPan delivery is spot on.
AWESOME Everything you are GENIUS
👍🏁🇺🇸
Cool
8:04 Big twist, hes actually just a guy stealing parts from peoples driveways, but teaching people about mechanics along the way. So don't tell nobody... 🤫
Just out of international interest, the EU plug is 13 pin round with a constant live and a fridge line. The left and right hand side lights are split. I actually like it :o)
I take it you didn't win?, that's too bad, you'll get them next year maybe, great video,👍, and thanks for sharing.
You my friend have stories to tell. 🎩🛡⚔🦁🌄 subbed on rumbs
Displays flickering during daytime but not at night could be due to your camera automatically choosing a shorter shutter time (per frame) in day lighting that is shorter than the display refresh interval. At night it's dark, less light, so each frame gets a longer shutter time for more exposure...
Or at least this is what I think. Could be other mechanism doing magic.
This was another excellent mini-series I binge-watched. Honestly, I cannot get enough of this phenomenal channel.
freiburger rememberered lowbuck garage thats impressive fist bump
i feel like the jeep would be sick with a set of fender headers! it would help with aero since the fenders grab a bunch of air and sounds nasty!
Glad everything worked out well for you and I'm glad you're having fun
Dude you need to get a pneumatic air saw ! One of the best tools I’ve ever bought
you sound like Hank Hill from king of the hill. Thats awesome
Glad to see you had a nice time James!! 😁👍 It was pretty cool to hear them talk highly of your Jeep build! 🔧🔩
Without doubt the best magyver man on the tube,👍👍👍
Your approach to life is so direct and intuitive! If someone can figure out how to put just a bit of that in a pill and prescribe it to these youngsters the world would get along better ! Keep up the great content!!!
That thing is pretty fast.
I hear derrick in the background man that looks fun
All in all this was a win 👍
That's awesome! And a trip your family will always remember. That's a win in my book!
Great job! Along w/ that Chevy distributer I'd ditch the 5 speed. Get an older 318 electronic distributer w/ longer centrifugal advance so you can start it at lower initial timing. Then get an 833 slick shift w/ Hurst Super Shifter and start learning how to shift at WOT. I see 12.5's @ 110. Best of luck, stay safe but have fun. I used to. ben/ michigan
i love your channel. keep it up
I actually saw it last night on VGG.
Same here in the staging lane.... This guy is amazing.....😮😂🎉
Love the bus. That's racing. Been there
The fact that you impressed Frieburguer and Dulcich Is impressive.well done.
Great job. I love watching your videos. Especially the old military vehicles. The halftracks, the Mutt truck, and the old jeeps. Can't wait to see what's next
What is wild is, you're doing this anyway! It is just a little bit more to record it. Well, maybe a little more than that. Thank You J. for sharing your genius with us.
This was a lot of fun to watch! It seems like the Jeep was popular long before you got to the event. That was quite an introduction you got! I wonder if you could rig up some sort of 5th gear lockout for when you are racing. You probably never hit 5th gear in a 1/4 mile, and it could possibly prevent an accidental missed shift. Just a thought.
Not too freaking shabby for something that unconventional and built in your garage. Excellent.
That's awesome. I'm glad the bus didn't give you much trouble, that could be harsh.
Man, that’s awesome 😊
Thanks for sharing yalls adventures. My favorite duct tape drag 2023 video so far!!
You should have put compact spare tires in the front, to save weight!
2900lb isn't anything to brag about because there is so much useless stuff on that. Like the windows, door latches, hinges, etc… All that stuff is useless, which makes it decoration.
Decoration that makes it slower is for women & ricers.
Your channel is amazing. The family get tons of adventure. Keep it up can't wait to see the drag jeep and bus in the future
Good video, thank you
Good Job! Your an inspiration to all of us who just won't give up on our projects. Can't wait to see your next adventure!
Good to hear that you had an awesome trip! I’m impressed that the jeep did so well and congratulations on all the wins!
Hell ya bro!!! I was watching you. I was out there with my nova wagon and my Chevelle. It was a great weekend!! Keep it up!!
Way to go, great watching
Well done sir.
Well done.
Good show thanks 👍
Great job. As always
Onward! to Victory!!
Amazing as always!!
Funny you talk about people not being suspiscious about working my flashlight under a dash. Nearly 20yrs ago, I was upside down with my feet in the air and head under a dash, in a college parking lot, instraling a CB on the '94 Plymouth Acclaim(I think, may have been a '91 Dodge Caravan) I drove then. Had some random students some buy and say they were going to call the cops as I was stealing the car.... Cops never showed up,. but as I owned the car, I really didn't care if they did
I had to watch this one after seeing your car in the background of another video I was watching. Unique stands out.
I've had a couple of surprises from liquid lately........... Most disconcerting ;-)
That was great !Glad you make time to see other home made cars .Fun
that was awesome dude, that thing rips lol, i didnt think it being as heavy as it is is would go like that, hooks good,
dont break anything yet, shifts soild, just a damn good build buddy, buss is a champ to thats awesome to, just needs a lil breathing on an she'll be good to the moon an back
Great video! Glad you made it out this year and it was great meeting you.
I love that you said the family had an event to remember, not that they had a good time!
What great fun, I’ve truly enjoyed your videos….I love the bus….keep the videos coming….Mike from Northern California
It’s been 8 days, waiting for a video
👍
Just finished filming one yesterday, got a bit sidetracked in the process, but it'll be coming out soon.
Very enjoyable. I can relate to the later and later and later starts.
Sometimes I have a full year to get ready....and still.........
tHanks for the great video!
Man, I watch a LOT of videos with your type of subject matter....and i just have to tell you that you are my new favorite DIY automotive (and Bus! Lol) youtuber... and here is why:
Editing! Very very good! I have a short attention span and even less patience.... i yell at the screen a lot....but not with you! You just blast through the content in a clear and concise way....perfect.
Low Buck: yup....we are the same!
Humor: perfect!
Thanks brother, MotorTrend needs a show with you! Hey David Frieburger ! #roadkill
You actually appeared on VGG'S video for about 1½ seconds before the ad squished it...if you didn't know...but at least his editor left you in...lol..keep up the great videos!
Why not film Fryhamburger and Dullcich, remember the fast n' loud thing?!
...too late now, we need a Lego reenactment. Make sure Dullcich's legoman has liquid-paper drawn teeth.
Only the best. That Jeep will cream the competition once you work out the "bugs".
(You are spot on; the inconsistencies were what "threw" your (mental) built in "shift sequence".
It happens to us all, at one time and/or another. That engine is a monster. I know. I ride a ZX1400.)
Hey buddy, great video! I’ve been watching you tube for years and this is my first time watching one of your videos. I really appreciate you explaining things as you fabricate. Top notch stuff bud. I’m a pipe welder pipe fitter myself and have worked in fab shops before and you definitely know your stuff!
So awesome
Like many others i,m sure, i watch many you tube channels. Yours is by far now my favourite as you still do real world repairs and fabrication with tools we all have or can have. Thanks for sharing, please don,t change. Paul (UK)
I saw your jeep briefly in the background of vise grips garages video. Just before watching this video. He should have made you a feature. You are a true duck tape competitor. Love your show . Once a UA-camr starts showing to much money. I loose interest. Ceep it real .
flat four connector:
i do computer stuff for a living and that looks a hell of a lot like a MOLEX connector
I just watched this whole series and I feel like I went on an adventure with you! Great Job! 👍😁
Absolutely brilliant time, saw you on vice grip garage. Lookin forward to your next project 😊
What, no power shift??????
Your inherited bus/camper is Boss. Your Dad did an excellent job on that.
(I was born in CT). Hows the weather out there? 😂
I saw a guy on Vice Grip Garage's clip of the DTD's, you sure are moving up in the world! All the best to you man!
Reinvented hotrodding...😏...I hope auto manufacturers are paying attention....😜
What is the objective of competitors in a burn out competition? Also, how is the winner decided, since the competitors are invisible behind an impenetrable wall of smoke most of the time? How do you get a licence, and insurance, etc, to use a vehicle on the public roads when it has been thrown together from scrap using untested welds, and safety-critical parts have been cut and welded? I live in the UK, by the way, where it would be almost impossible to take a cobbled together vehicle like this on the road legally.
The sound of the engine inside the cabin, sounds exactly like the jalopy(muscle car) from half life 2 and I love every part of it, the agressive noise it make its music to my ears.
Nilight has a "Shoe in" on your channel. They saw the potential as I did. Your channel is ready to "Explode"!
Awesome video as always. It's great to see you racing and having a good time in a car you could build on a working man's salary instead of driving the high buck rides a lot of guys drive. Nice work.
