I feel like the reason people resent this movie is they were adults who hated the fact that the franchise was totally taken over by kids by the time the sequel came out.
But I was 10 when it did so it landed perfectly for me.
Yeah, it sucks about Winston. He was the EVERY MAN CHARACTER not Bill Murray's. He was the one character that was accessable to everyone.
Hate that he was side lined again.
Winston always be my favorite Ghostbuster character. but first i found Egon the best but now i do love Winston the most. i loved all his oneliners in the first and second movie. best line of Winston is "When somebody asks you if you're a god, you say Yes!" but also from the second movie : "hey, New York, what a Town!" and dont forget his line in GB2 for jokes side : "Always the quiet once!" Winston is the best and it sucks he didnt have more scene in Both GB 1 and 2. but as a second favorite, Egon for sure. he's the scientist, that guy with the glasses, has been the nerd, i can relate to him as much as Winston. i fuckin love science. lol.

Underrated sequel. Yeah it has similar beats to the original even Home Alone 2 had that problem but there is a lot to appreciate. The chemistry is still present. Lines like "Doee...Rayyy...EGONE!!" add a lot of charm, emotions and comedy than the garbage 2016.
Afterlife has the same thing. Shares beats with GB1 and has iconic lines
Home Alone 2 is actually better than 1 though but I love them both

Ghostbusters 2 was a box office hit. I think it was the critics hated it more than the movie going public, and keep in mind it was released in the summer of 1989 going up against movies like Batman and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Wilhelm Von Homburg was in Die Hard 1 as part of Hans Gruber's crew. He was one of the two thugs that handled the guided missile gear. Interestingly, Reginald Vel Johnson and William Atherton were both in Die Hard and Ghostbusters, and Richard Edlund was the special effects supervisor on both films.
Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong were supposed to be in Ivan Reitman's "Stripes", but they wanted more creative control.
Wilhelm was also in In the Mouth of Madness as the farmer whose son got abducted by Sutter Cane. "Journey! Journey, boy!"
Louis finally becoming a ghostbuster was my fave scene
I love this film but the Statue of Liberty walking was a bit over the top for me lol

Bare in mind that this isn’t on the *Wiki* page or the *IMDb* trivia page…
• There’s a giant number _1_ on the very front of the ghost train’s locomotive.
• There’s the number _37_ on the side of the third car.
• There’s _”U.S. RAIL”_ on the side of the fourth car, along with some kind of crest.
No other part(s) of the ghost train have either numbers or letters/wording.

Like others have said, I really enjoyed this sequel, in spite of it being technically not as good as the first movie. If the first movie could be considered a 9/10, this movie is still a 8/10. It is hilarious. One of my favourite lines are still relevant today - “I’m a voter! Are you supposed to lie to me and kiss my butt?” (Perfectly describes the current political atmosphere and the governor of NY and the mayor in NYC) and I’m a huge supporter of raising awareness of the plight of Carpathian Kitten Loss.
Watching this film in a double bill with the first Ghostbusters made it a better film than I remembered.
As a standalone film, it's passable, as has some decent moments in it.

Always have and still love this movie. While i would give the first movie a 10/10, i would give GB2 a very strong 8/10.
Maybe when Winston wasn't with the others, he was taking care of his fledgling real estate business. Something that would make him his fortune over the next 30 years. x
I think he owns a chain of funeral homes. IIRC, Ghostbusters: Afterlife confirmed(?) it.
@@aintsam9952 - The 2016 film (where he cameos as an unrelated character who owns funeral homes) isn't part of this continuity.
I was 9 when this film came out; I can't look at it critically at all, I just love it 😃
I think this one is even BETTER than the first. Better ghosts, better humor, better villain(s), awesome music, and better character development.

It was exactly what I expected from a sequel and I was perfectly happy with it. 7.5 out of 10 for me.
More like Ghostbusters 1.5 , but as long as the fans like it I'm all for it. Thumbs up from me .
"Watch Ghostbusters 2 for the characters." That sums up my enjoyment of many sequels that are seen as inferior and sometimes even bad movies, just some more time with characters I enjoy hanging with.

I saw this one first BC its the one we owned on VHS so ill always have a softer spot for it than most.
I had this one and the first one on ex rental as a kid used to play them over and over.
Love this film. I remember going to see it 4 times at the cinema when it first came out!

Totally agree Gary, they should have played on the citizens of New York arguing with one another throughout the film, it only happened in the opening scene as Dana is walking down the street ppl are arguing as she goes by, ironic this film got so many negative reviews, like Iain I luv this film, Peter MacNicol's steals the show in every scene he's in IMO, it just gets better with age.

Citizen ghost was an awesome episode of real Ghostbusters took place right after first film
i will buy Ghostbusters 1 and 2 in 4k right after christmas i loved these films back in the day and of course third movie when it is released 2016 remake was fucking disgrace to originals. trailers was enougn for me on that shit :D

I don't think calling Ghostbusters II a $30 - $40 million budget that made $215.4 million done badly. Yes it wasn't critically successful and probably didn't hit its higher numbers to the original film. Some of it was big competition with Batman, Lethal Weapon 2, Honey I shrunk the kids. Otherwise it is entertaining.

The formula of the sequel is the protagonist having to explain / defend themselves once again and no-one in authority believing them - see Jaws 2, Terminator 2, Aliens etc - so you can't turn around and say it doesn't make sense!

Is kind in the midle, good ideas for a sequel but equally silly stuff in the movie, is ok they wanted to be more kid friendly but at the same time it lose part of the escence of the first one, is less clever and more silly
But anyway is cool we got a sequel and it helped to stablish ghostbusters as a film franchise and keep the concept in pop culture
I like this one yes it repeats some of the original but the cast is still fun and the plot itself is fine. This for me is a good sequel that isn't on the level of the original just like most sequels.

Ghostbusters II, not as good as the original, but not as bad as most people make it out to be! If you enjoyed the original Ghostbusters, you HAVE to check out Ghostbusters II. The Animated Television series, play the 2009 Ghostbusters video game A.K.A The REAL Ghostbusters III. And definitely check out Ghostbusters Afterlife. Oh...and ignore that shitty 2016 reboot.

Yeah, it's not a good sequel, but it's okay. You can't say this sequel was BAD. It has repeated beats, it's kinda different from the first movie, but it's not insulting. It still feels like a Ghostbuster's movie. At least it kept a lot of the people involved with the original film, it stayed in the universe of the original movie, and it's got some funny moments. Sure, it's heavier on the effects, but hey, it's not half bad. 2016's reboot is a total disappointment. It does EVERYTHING wrong while trying to preach a fake woke message that it doesn't even do right. I dare someone to say that the reboot is better than Ghostbusters 2, and give me legit reasons for that steaming hunk of trash.

Ghostbusters 2 was the most disappointing sequel ive seen at the movies - i remember me and my friends lining up for hours to see it at the cinema and then when we finally watched it none of the jokes landed, the audience barely laughed - afterwards we were talking saying ‘wow was that shit?’ ‘Yeah it wasnt great’

If you rewatch the start you see people being mean to each other.
I actually don't mind the score. I think it fits the movie perfectly fine. No it's not as good as Elmer Bernstiens, however his was more like a horror score which fitted the original perfectly. I don't think I'd have wanted a retread. For a movie that is accused of being too much of a retread can you imagine if the score was similar! At least that's something to differentiate the two movies.

I loved GB 2 as a kid, as an adult I think it's just a lazy rehash of the original and I wouldn't recommend it at all. Great review though, I hope you guys have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

I love Peter MacNicol in "Numb3rs".
Over time many films get reappraised and their qualities shine over time, bringing in new fans and appreciation. Sadly, I'm not one of them when it comes to Ghostbusters 2.
It has its moments, isolated segments that work onto themselves. But as a whole, it just don't work for me. It lacks energy, repeats the beats of the first film without its edge, the score really, really sucks and feels like it belongs in a sitcom, and overall doesn't cohere when it comes to the details that made Ghostbusters work so well.
I will say this though; has the best analogue era visual effects of any 80's film.

How come I missed this review!
I honestly will fight everyone arguing about GB2 being just an OK movie. It's characters, the effects, the jokes, and the way they managed to self mock everything, to then bring back the nostalgia, is just great.
Dana/Peter's fallout is essentially a successful portrait on how your heroes might not get their "happy forever" path, which Star Wars prequels tried with their trio, but utterly failed.
Also, sorry but Bobby Brown's "Take Control" is a great song, and it's awesome MV still makes me reminisce for a simpler time, when Trump was an inconsequential joke.
