The drummer was hired for being able to not only be a world class drummer, but to improvise just by watching Elvis. Ronny Tutt. He was the last to audition before his come back. The guy that auditioned before him used his drums and initially got the gig. He talked them into letting him go ahead and play since his drums were already set up. He was so good and his chemistry with Elvis took off from there. Anytime you see Elvis moving with the drums like that, in any song, it's the two of them working together to make the magic happen.

As I read your comment "the sexiest man ever", the vision came to me of something I did about 20 years ago. I was working in an office of an automobile company that made the components of doors. As I was walking in an aisle, I looked to my left and saw an Elvis picture. Maybe a calendar or 16"18" poster. It was a closeup, from chest up, dressed in black. I moved to the picture, the man at the desk made room for me so I could get closer for viewing. About 20 seconds later I said "Raw Sex". I turned and walked away. Then I thought, I could not believe I said that out loud. 🥰 from Kentucky

    "Made the alligators look tame."
Chain gangs were inmates chained to each other doing work outside supervised by guards in the deep South. I don't think women were on any chain gangs.
The performance of this song didn't evidence his vocal power. But he did a lot of other songs live which demonstrated his vocal prowess.
I appreciate your reactions very much.

Great reaction to great showmanship! Elvis didn't need autotune, choreography, fireworks or an army of background dancers. Elvis was the show. Another great performance from this period I hope you can respond to is Sweet Caroline. In addition Presley gave us 3 decades of performance. Another reaction request is for the Mean Woman Blues video from '57 where Elvis shows us a little sideways moon walk.

Just to add to that nice comment you made, Elvis is voice, and feeling for music came from even deep in his bones, his left leg was almost always moving. He felt the music because music was him. He never had a singing coach and like you said he just moved to the music that he felt inside him. He was Elvis. That’s who he was. !!!

It’s fun watching younger generations discover Elvis and reacting the same way we did when he was alive. He was a cultural phenomenon and an American icon. Elvis truly is a rabbit hole worth going down and the further you go, the more you will respect/love him and realize he was a lot deeper than most entertainers. You are right about the song being about Civil Rights. Heartbroken about the news of Martin Luther King’s assassination Elvis sat down with songwriter Walter Earl Brown to come up with “If I Can Dream”. The 68 Comeback Special was supposed to be a Christmas Special and end with a Christmas song for America to hear. However Elvis put it all on the line, holding nothing back and standing up for his convictions chose to perform this song as his finale despite those around him advising him not to. Please watch “In the Ghetto” 1970 Las Vegas and note the crowd he is performing in front of. Also watch “Love Me Tender” 1970 concert. What he does will absolutely shock you and possibly make you jealous you weren’t there. Great reaction!

Crazy and tragic because privately, he was insecure and shy. And felt suppressed, by his management, and especially in his acting, as he was pigeonholed into music movies but wanted to be a serious actor like James Dean. Makes you appreciate the icon he was, that he struggled with so much but achieved far more.

He was a great showman, a good American and loved his country, A visit to Graceland opens up your eyes, i think this guy was the ultimate enteratiner.

I believe that the Ice Capades designers made Elvis's jumpsuits. He wore one pieces that resembled Karate outfits so he include more physicality in the shows, especially those that showed off his practice of the martial art - which he started when he was in the army. He is really energetic during these 1970 Vegas performances and yes, this song/performance does appear to contain a lot of suggestiveness, doesn't it? The rehearsal videos for this series of shows are also really fun. Elvis likes to joke around and laugh a lot.

He is also my guardian angel. Graceland is my go to place when it get's to hard to live w/o my friend i go there and walk around and remember Elvis and all the beautiful times we had together. He was the only person in my life that understood me and cared about my feelings and opinions. What it comes down to is we both needed a true friend and we were that for each other. Awesome reaction. God bless you and your family from the one and only Memphis Tn. Fun fact he loved to make funny noises with the microphone there was NOTHING!!!!! sexual about what he did with the Microphone. Elvis saved all the notes that were slipped to him. People sent him gifts, too. He saved every one of those, as well. There's spots at Graceland where gifts are displayed; they're placed right where Elvis put them. He cherished the notes and gifts. I don't think that he ever fully wrapped his head around his popularity. From what I've read, he was always amazed, and a little dumbfounded, that he was so well loved. The gifts and notes were things for which he was truly grateful. They represented time out of someone's day, that they took to express their affection to him, and he didn't take that for granted.
