    Keef is playing an e350 circa 1948-1951. he considers it too precious for playing on stage. Ronnie seems to have a 1930's vintage gibson L5, both beautiful guitars in the hands of true masters here. ancient art of weaving , indeed,

    A lot of people don't seem to remember that Ronnie Wood single handedly saved the stones in the 70 and still is a major part of their continued appeal.

      Ronnie was the real Keith, far out did him as far as alcohol and "substances" intake. He is well sober now with wife Sally and kids but three years ago was quoted as saying, "The last 40 years I have never gone on stage without being stoned on drugs drink or both". Ronnie also tougher than K because K always had suppliers who got him the best quality, pure stuff such as pharmaceutical cocaine, while Ronnie did not have these connections back then. Unless K shared!
      But Mick Taylor is who really made them rock and be the best live and in studio. Just listen to MT on the many versions of Dead Flowers. MT does it different but great each time.

    From what I've read, this is part of their pre-show ritual. They're very tight both as musicians and as people. The old 12-bar-blues is perfect for warming up the hands and getting in sync.

    Senuous guitar playing. Keith & Ron Wood are probably the best plugged in guitarists around. They play off each other so brilliantly.
    They call it weaving. We call it magic, and are just glad that they do

    The guitars they knock about with backstage and on the bus are worth more than my house, with my guitars and drums still in it! Damn. They can jam some blues, too, for a couple a blokes! Thank God for the British Invasion bring a blues Renaissance back to America. And yes, Steve Vai, Steve Morse, Steve Howe and other random Steve's may be faster and cleaner, but there is a good reason these guys are more famous. Groove, feeling, roots, and dedication to their style.

    Rolling Stones are one of my favorites. Musically, there a very loose, bunch a guys, band. Where a lot of other bands have solos and rehearsed chord changes and tempos, the Stones have silence. Quote from KR " it's not what you play, sometimes it's what you dont play, the little silences. " . As musicians, they are good, but they'll never be in the category of musical greatness like Led Zep, Clapton, or Hendrix or the more technical intricate guitar solos. What makes the Stones so great are not so much what they pla but more of what they don't play. Richards is a one of the great rhythm guitarist of our time. Most bands follow the drummer, but in the this band ......everyone follows Keith. Keith is a very loose player. Spontaneity. You see this when they play live. They never play the same version of a particular song on any given night. They've never been interested in replicating the exact or dame sound of the original studio recording.that appears on the album. That's the first thing i noticed the first time i saw them play live. Always get a different version or variation of it. And so, in regards to sound, it changes everything. Then add to the equation the drummer is a jazz drummer. That's what makes them so great and so unique. Keith Quote " i tried to be a great technical guitaris like ur Clapton-s Jimmy Page's and Hendrix but i failed. Im a rhythm guitarist. I hold the beat done. Those guys cant do what I do. "

    • @johopeweisz
      @johopeweisz 10 років тому +2

      Well, no, "perfect" ist a bit exaggerated. But, yes, this is the blues, boogie (roots of rock'n roll) at that, and they got the right feel and you can hear they are rooted in the tradition. Which is not a small thing. If you think this is perfect find out about the masters of boogie and blues tradition. If you think this is not the blues find out about how broad this tradtion is.

    Without extensively "borrowing"--in science, art, music, public policy, health, technology--our whole civilization's "songbook" would be much, much smaller. "Borrowing" is a good thing, nothing to be deplored. Flat out copying is just plagiarism, but "borrowing" and adding your own touch is what allow civilization and culture to develop.

    The thing is, nearly ALL Ronnie Wood’s guitars he uses on stage, with the Stones are 1950s originals.
    He only uses 1950s strats, telecasters, and firebirds basically. As well as a few hand made, custom guitars, from friends of his.
    It’s probably some sort of 1950s Gibson. We don’t recognise it, as they probably stopped making it 40 years ago

    Like hell,
    Chuckie and Ry never played 5-string open G.
    All the stones monster hits where written and owe the distinct sound to Keef's 5-string open G. It was pure genius to take a tuning that had only been used for slide-playing lead, figure out his own fingering for chords, realize that the the low G just screwed things up so he took it off. Pure genius. Hand Chuck Keef's 5-string open G tuned Tele and he wouldn't be able to play a damned thing. Its a whole new instrument.

    • @1maggan
      @1maggan 7 років тому +1

      Not a whole new instrument but slightly different. The high E-string and the A-string are tuned down a whole step. It´s not that hard to "translate" for a decent player. It´s funny you mentioned C Berry cause that guys guitar knowledge is a total mystery!

    In the book "Under Their Thumb" by Stone's associate & journalist Bill German, he describes how Ron Wood & he would make prank phone calls. Ron would check the classified ads for local bar bands looking for a guitarist, & then phone them. When they'd ask what experience he had, he'd say, "well, currently I'm working with the Rolling Stones, & I used to play with the Faces, & Jeff Beck...". He'd get that far & they'd hang up on him, thinking he was some kind of joker or goof, LOL.

    ... that's how it works - You listen to someone and you want to know who influenced them, and who influenced that person, and so one. It's endless. Keith Richards said he started listening to Little Richard and Chuck Berry, then Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, and Howlin Wolf and eventually (like all blues enthusiast) you will end up at Robert Johnson, Tommy Johnson, Blind Lemon Jefferson, etc.
