    Good review. I have a very similar setup. The review reflects my experience for most aspects of the SHP2 but you should do more review on the grid tied functions. Why? The actual orchestration of the SHP2 and attached DPUs is limited and has some challenges when you mix grid and solar. Especially if the goal is to roll back the meter (like the title of the video). One major limitation is the "max charge" for the DPUs. The max charge is shared by all inputs. So when grid tied, and the batteries are allowed to charge, they will quickly charge on grid AC, reach the max charge limit, but then none of your solar energy will benefit the batteries unless you actually consume some of the battery energy. Having the ability to charge to x% (aka set a target for a charging task) or having a different max charge for grid vs solar, would allow for much better orchestration between grid and solar. As the professor you should also measure the "loss" between AC charge and AC discharge on the power IN/OUT port. Just by being connected to the SHP2 the batteries will drain a few percentage points everyday (could be improved by shutting down all but one inverter for example until they are required). Not all DPU inverters are equal, on average I see 15% loss between my charge/discharge. But one of my inverters is an outlier at 38% loss. Please keep the data and reviews flowing.

    The Smart panel is $1899 and the quotes I’ve gotten from electricians so far to install it is around $2000. That’s in addition to the inverters, batteries and solar panels. That’s a lot of extra money. Couldn’t you run the two inverters with the 50amp hub, and back feed to your existing circuit box (albeit w/o the fancy features) and call it a day?

    • @HOBOTECH
      @HOBOTECH  9 місяців тому +6

      Yep but then you have none of the smart features and no grid charging ability. You could install cheaper by doing what I did and install the panel next to your existing vs replace. Also the panel is a lot cheaper in the bundle with my $800 off code.

    • @Robulite
      @Robulite 8 місяців тому +5

      I asked electricians how much it costs to install a 100A sub panel beside your current panel and you want to move a few circuits to the sub panel from the main. If you tell them it's smart or any of that extra nonsense they assume you have money. You tell them you will provide the subpanel and my quote was $800. And then when he came to install it he charged an extra 100 to put in the conduit for the plug for the battery.

Fortunately my Ecoflow dealer had them in stock and works great. basically 7200 watt output @ 230v here in Europe. I can use washer/dryer, water pumps, 2 x 12000btu ac units, some MIG welding, no problem. In the USA/Canada It's gonna be series connection to give the 240v split phase. I highly recommend the Power kits for off grid and RV, Boats. Awesome stuff from Ecoflow💖

    This may seem like a dumb or crazy idea but I'll ask it anyway. I have a pre-existing large solar array that feeds directly back to the grid. I' like to have a battery backup system as well as one that can power my 220v crypto rigs. This seems like a great solution for both, but rather than buying separate solar panels, I'd like to see if I can tap into my current system.
    Is it possible to just add an outlet to the line that is feeding directly back into the grid power in my fusebox and charge the DPU via the 220v input? Or is that crazy/dangerous? 🙂

    I read through different comments and replies you gave. You said the shp2 had to have some sort of power to work but during a blackout the only source of power it would have would come from the battery setup from my understanding. I have searched everywhere I can to determine if this panel requires 240 or can it run with just 120 like from a single delta pro with a single infinity cord and have found nothing. I have a 400 square foot cabin with a 100 amp panel and nothing that goes over 120v as well as less than 12 breakers. I would love to put this in and use the original delta pros with it. • @HOBOTECH
      @HOBOTECH  Місяць тому

      Grid isn't required to do an update. You simply connect and turn on whatever power station you're using and that powers the SHP2 for BT access. App will auto detect, you then setup the WiFi and then do updates.

  • @papavilla
    @papavilla 9 місяців тому

    Is charging speed from “grid” any different if you have 2 DPU’s and the SHP2?
    I know you covered charging the DPU via 120v & 240v in the 1st video, but the biggest drawback for me is only being able to charge my DPU (1 inverter, 1 battery) at 1800w using 120v while outputting 240v via inverter. I know you can charge at 3000w via 240v, but it turns the output circuits off.
    If I could charge faster from “grid” while still keeping my 240v output it would be very helpful.

    • @HOBOTECH
      @HOBOTECH  9 місяців тому +1

      Yes, the integration kit allows the home panel to charge the DPU with 120v grid/gen while still providing 240v output. The home panel disables the DPU outlets, so you can only pull AC from the home panel. I was able to charge both DPUs at 3600w each simultaneously.

    I noticed that the app will let you specify the generator input as 110v. Do you know how to wire it to the panel in that situation? Just use L1 (and the panel does the magic to power both sides) or run L1 to both sides? I hope that makes sense as I am really curious. Thanks!

    I do have a question, at 10:55 of your video you are showing your Smart Home Panel 2 install, it appears that you are using in breaker spot 2 a tandem or split breaker. is that true? That would allow you to almost double your circuit counts. However you would not have individual control on each circuit on port 2 so if you turn off circuit 2 electronically both circuits on circuit 2 would shut off. Also, what is the max Amp on the Smart Home Panel 2 would it support 200amp as a main panel ion a home?

    • @HOBOTECH
      @HOBOTECH  9 місяців тому

      Yes, I'm using a split breaker but it's only hooked to one circuit. It's what I had available. The panel is limited to 100A on the input.

    Why does the smart home panel have a generator / grid interlock? When grid power goes out the panel gets power from the batteries. When on batterie backup, how does the panel not backfeed the grid connection? If there is a way to cut off the backfeed, why isn't that same mechanism used to cut the grid backfeed when a generator is feeding the panel?

    • @HOBOTECH
      @HOBOTECH  8 місяців тому

      It's for bad weather days when solar won't work. You hook a 120v/240v generator (or other power source) to charge the batteries. It doesn't back feed because the panel has a built in auto transfer switch.

      It needs some kind of "grid" to power the panel, either 120v or preferably 240v.

      So couldn't you do a work around by adding a 30 amp plug to your main panel and use a delta pro or something like that to provide the 120v. Then you are still off grid and able to power the panel.

    • @davidbailey3289
      @davidbailey3289 4 місяці тому

      Using a generator you still need to have propane or fuel which means you are still relying on outside sources which in a disaster situation is bad

    • @marcfruchtman9473
      @marcfruchtman9473 4 місяці тому

      @@davidbailey3289 You would need some sort of Transfer Switch for sure, because if you hook directly to the main panel you would definitely backfeed into the utility, and potentially cause a disaster. Almost certainly it would be out of phase as well.

    Great info, as always! Would you recommend this system over the powerwall 3 system? I'm currently in the market, and Costco has a bundle deal of $6999 for 12kWh or $8999 for 18kWh. $1k additional with smart home panel 2 (no info on expansion battery packs as I would like 24 or 30kWhs minimum to have peace of mind come winter storm season etc) I have a virtual consultation with Tesla but it's good to know that I can get one with ecoflow as well in Texas. Thanks for the videos and TIA for your input! 🤓

    I do have a question, I am planning on building on a new property, 1st an out building with a home in the future. The electrical supply is approx. 2000 ft away. It will cost $50,000 to $100,000 to bring in a supply. I really like this Ecoflow Ultra thinking 3 inverters with 2-3 batteries per inverter each to start. We plan on using 15kw of solar and will have a small dual fuel generator, and some small wind to help out. My question is, if you were building this project would you use the EcoFlow ultra for total off grid or do you have a better solution. I would really appreciate your input.

    Questions that someone can hopefully answer.
    So if I have solar panels on my roof. Do they go straight into this Unit, or am I plugging this into an outlet when the solar panels on the roof are active and I’m actually just pulling from an outlet that is pulling from solar?
    Does this do the entire, 20 millisecond transfer time? In a blackout does this instantly run everything without me moving from the couch?
    Can this power everything. We have a large house but don’t use everything all at once. But we have 3 floors, 3 AC units. And about 4600 square feet. So, can I make the smart panel transfer everything from the main panel and just, time of use this thing?
    Because I was sold on the power wall. Then I waited for the Anker x1. (Which they cared more about form than function. And they aren’t releasing prices)
    But this could be great if I’m pulling from the panels. (And I can add a second panel set up on top of the shed) to pull power. Then switch everything to this and say, 18kwh or backup batteries after 6pm. Coast on the dpu to power our house until the sun is shining again. And then never deal with Time of use charges.
    So if anyone sees the questions there and knows the answers let me know. Thanks for everyone help.

I called BS because you can’t just install the panel and leave without going through the app to program it. WHAT ARE YOU SENDING ME ECOFLOW!!!! They are still installing and have been here all day. They probably didn't want to run that line. It's extra work and they probably don't get paid. Yes, a wired connection is the best for Internet connectivity. They may be able to use a amplifier hooked to a 120v receptacle. It has a cat 5 connection. I have only used this method with enphase systems. I am a Electrician and have installed solar systems. I have computer, cell phone and Computer software experience. I plan to provide this type of grid less system that involves less if the power company and service company to empower My customers. Good luck everyone.

    Federal solar tax credits you can claim only once for the year you install a solar system. However, if the credit is more than the taxes you owe, it will roll over to the next tax year for up to five years. Under the Inflation Reduction Act, passed in August 2022, the federal solar tax credit is worth 30% of your total system cost. You can not claim this every year.
