Automotive grade alternators can have very high amp rating but may not be meant to be run at a hundred percent capacity continuously. I have seen the brushes in new alternators wear out in weeks under high load. Use with caution and understand ratings of your system.
I have been charging my delta max using a 700w inverter which pulls 73A plus 8A from the car charger at the same time my alternator is a 180A model I have been charging like this stationary idling the engine for about 2 hours at a time for over 2 years I believe 70a is a sweet spot for almost any vehicle to handle without issues

Any chance you will do a review of the Pecron 500 watt unit? Not as much power at 500 watts, but it works with non-Pecron power stations and costs less about $150.
Thinking the best way would be to have a 120a Anderson on my car battery (luckily under drivers seat) and RV battery and then an Anderson on the Alt Charger. Would make switching between the two easier.
My honest opinion on this is I like bluetti as a company more than I like Ecoflow so if they were to come out with a version of their own, I would buy it in a heartbeat
I love your videos. I wish this could handle non-Ecoflow setups. When I built my power backup for my house, I stuck to a 12 volt system so it could be recharged from my alternator. I just didn't see any 12v-->48v chargers I would trust. If you have a way to use this with other LiFePO4 batteries, I would be interested in how it's done. One of the concerns I have is with drawing 800 watts/ ~60 amps from an alternator for an extended period. I have one car with a 140 amp alternator that would be fine, but my little Honda's alternator is only 70 amps and, from what I've seen online, would probably fry fairly quickly at idle if I pulled 60 continuous amps. I know you can adjust the charge rate in the Delta, but it would have been nice to include a little info about where to set it in comparison to the alternator output. 40% - 50%?
Fairly new sub, your discount codes saved me a ton on Ecoflow black Fri-cyber Monday sales thanks. And thanks for the info, I'm electrical dumb so I need all the help I can get lol. Also love the cat
EXCELLENT review! You also got me to take another look, re-assess my needs, then pull the trigger on this one. Will keep mine semi-portable for use in and out of the vehicles. Thank you HOBOTECH, until you are better paid.
How do these alternator chargers affect the longevity of the alternators? I've heard that alternators in modern cars are not designed to handle charging power stations or additional batteries beyond the one used to start the vehicle. Will these types of chargers eventually burn out the vehicle alternator?
Would you be able to cut those six gauge wires that go to the battery and install Anderson connectors so I could use it to connect a truck camper? So I would be able to disconnect the camper when I take it off the truck.
Great video Professor. I have purchased the Ecoflow alternator and plan to hook it up to my truck battery. I also want to be able to hook up to a house battery in a truck camper. I noticed you put clamps on cables to do this in the extended video. Did you cut an existing cable from Ecoflow to do this or did you make your own with a separate pin. Basically, I need two cables to switch applications since my truck battery cable will be permanently installed while the house camper battery will not. I have not seen where I can buy another cable from Ecoflow, albeit a shorter one. Thanks, if you can get me any information on my dilemma.
cool wanted to get a van but the ones in my price range had small batteries. This would make it easy to add capacity but use the ecoflow for other things when not using the van. Was planning to get the new delta pro 3.

Just ordered a second Ecoflow Alternator charger with your discount code because this is so versatile... I'll be able to charge both my Delta 2 and Delta 2 Max at full speed from my solar charged house battery...
What a great idea for a product. We all know how ridiculously slow charging is from 12v with the little cigarette lighter adapter. I like the built-in reverse charging.
that's a cool product from ecoflow i did not know that it had all those features and now that i have the the ecoflow delta pro looks like with this product i might be able to make my own extra batteries for it thanks for the review.
How can I hook this charger up to a Delta 2 with the Delta 2 extra battery without constantly having to unhook the charger back and forth from one to the other? How do I set it and forget it?
Once I started getting into power stations, nowhere has enough sockets! I found a cheap 300w/300wh lightweight one with li-ion and a pure sine, which is now basically an accessory for the vacuum cleaner. Why plug and unplug it constantly? The power comes with me!
If one already has a 1500W 120V inverter on the vehicle... does this until make a lot of sense? I think at 120V, does a Delta 2 charge just as fast in comparison? Is going DCDC more efficient?
Yes, I believe DC to DC is generally always more efficient then going to AC and back to DC unless you are trying to move a lot of electricity over a long distance... But you also have the ability to jump your car without a separate 12v charger. otherwise, if you are just trying to charge your ecoflow from the car fast, the efficiency probably isn't worth the cost and space of having this too.
I just bought a sprinter to travel in , set up to use for hunting but also to go to cycling events for me and running events for my wife . My biggest concern was setting up a system that would allow for climate control to leave the hunting dogs in the van when we needed to be away from van . The Ecco flow products seemed to tick all the boxes . I used the QR code and the promo code and saved a bunch of money above and beyond the Ecco flow website Memorial Day sale . Thanks for the informative video . Im looking forward to using the AC unit as well as the delta pro power unit .
Outstanding video. awesome coverage of all the ins and outs, thank you. This charger is a beast. (so is Odin). hahaha. I learned a lot in a short amount, and have recommended to others. Some of us were considering putting a cut off, or isolator, between bat and charger. but now I believe it is not necessary. but for a perm install. maybe. Thanks again. Keep on keepin on
At what point does large power stations stop making sense? 100 amp hour LiFePO4 is less than $250. Use it as a house battery and top off your smaller power station as needed. You can set it up with whatever charge controller you need. I'm using a 175 solar panel to charge mine and it in turn keeps EB3A topped off as well as running 12 volt accessories directly from it. No reason I could not charge it from the alternator as well, but have not needed to at this point.
Anyone know how well this will work hooking up to the 12v battery of an EV. If hooked up to tesla 12v battery would it break anything? Seem like a cool way to make any EV with 12volt baterry V2L
It depends on your DC to DC converter that charges your 12v battery... My prius has a 2000watt DC to DC converter from the traction battery. If you pull more than your converter can charge, then perhaps you could run into problems when the 12v battery gets too low and the computer crashes. But I would guess the 12v battery will act as a buffer as long as you don't pull too much load for a long time. I would try to keep continuous load to 1500 or less and watch the voltage or find out the DC to DC converter of your specific make and model of Tesla
I am building out a trailer to take on a hunting trip. We are going to use an ECOflow and the alternator charger. Are we able to hook the alternator charger to the battery in the trailer and then run a charging wire from the truck to the trailer using the 7 pin plug? Start the truck and the charging cable would go from truck to trailer RV and charge the power station back up at 800watts?
Ecoflow has a great deal on the Delta 2 power station with the alternator charger. I have a Delta 2 already, but wanted to add the EcoFlow DELTA 2 Smart Extra Battery... Can I just purchase another Delta 2 power station instead of the extra battery to get the same capacity or am I missing something? Any negatives of going this route? Thanks!
Can I use this to charge up and draw from any third party battery such as the SOK 206Ah lithium battery? Would custom cables need to be made for connecting from lugs to the 48v port?
It would be great if you could do a similar review on the Bluetti Charger 1 when time allows. (No vehicle/alternator variant, please). How low can the lifepo4 battery voltage drop before the charger shuts off? Thank you, Professor!
I just bought this and need some info on how to connect it to my dual AGM batteries in my truck camper that are charged with roof mounted solar. Any info on how to do that?
I have a bluetti ac70 and I suppose I have to change the wire that goes into the solar input if i want it to work. The bluetti alternatoe charger is so back order it will take months before I can get one
I ended up using a PECRON charger between 100 amp power lithium battery and river pro and then from the battery to the starter battery/alternator I have a Victron DC DC charger.
Great video! Question. I have a DP3, the alternator with no panels. I want to purchase a 24V battery but am curious. What are some ways to recharge the battery after it powers my DP3? I would prefer not to buy solar panels. Thank you!!
Very cool, thanks for the informative video! I have a 1KW pure sine inverter in my 4Runner, the Delta 2/Delta 2 Max (Going to order the max tonight) will charge from that at ~1KW + 150ish watts from the solar input straight from DC with a xt60i adapter. Up to 1KW of recharging the ecoflows without having to bring them out to the vehicle + another little boost if I have it in the vehicle. Any more than that and I’d be worried about draining the vehicle battery and/or stressing the alternator.
Hi I was wondering If I had 200ah of lithium batteries in my caravan and wanted to charge them from the delta pro which was permantly mounted in the car which was being charged by the 800w alternator charger. In other words have a continuous flow of charge from the alternator to the delta pro and from there to the caravan.
When charging ecoflow from 12 volt lifepo4 house batteries how efficient is the charger? I believe the video mentioned "zero" loss when charging house battery from ecoflow unit. What losses are incurred when charging ecoflow unit from house batteries?
I had to get out of my rocker, pause the TV, and get up real close to see.....based on the equipment displays, looks like I saw 11 and 13% losses when powering ecoflow from external power supply. Good review

Ordered the wave 2 for my truck camper, works well. Still waiting on the alternator 800w unit to ship. I’d love to learn how it hooks up to the wave 2 battery
Any chance you will do a review of the Pecron 500 watt unit? Not as much power at 500 watts, but it works with non-Pecron power stations and costs less about $150.
Daygreen has a ton of DC to DC chargers at many voltage outputs (24, 28, 30, 48, 58 and even 72V) and wattages all the way up to 3000w.
Techno hobo! one of my favorite UA-cam channels, Thank you sir.
You just made me buy this bloody thing. It will be a game changer. Much appreciated advice, thank you.
Bluetti has come out with the D40, but it only works with the AC200L.
Thanks!
Wow I just got this package I had know idea how versatile this is thanks for going the extra mile to show us all it offers 😊
Can you compare the Pecron alternator charger to this? I believe the main differences are no jumpstart or reverse charging.
Thank God, you mentioned tank
Using house batteries is my favorite 😊
👍 Thanks Hobo. My mother came out with one yesterday, but this is so much nicer.
I ‘ve been waiting on your review before I pull the trigger on this one.
We need to hack it somehow to charge other brands of power stations. I have faith that Professor Hobo can do it!
I'd like the same info
Wow! This is awesome my alternator 800w is on its way can’t wait. Thanks
cool wanted to get a van but the ones in my price range had small batteries. This would make it easy to add capacity but use the ecoflow for other things when not using the van. Was planning to get the new delta pro 3.
My gosh I had know idea what it was and the use cases flying around in my head is fun:-) You do such a great job getting to the points , uses cases , strengths and weaknesses. Well done even though you made me $399 more poor.
I ordered the bundle came with free 110w solar panel :)
Second question. Some areas near me have free J1772 chargers. Is there any way to hook this charger up to that to charge one of these batteries?
My favorite thing about the Alt generator is the word Alt. Thanks for the splain’in ! Keep up your jiv’in ways ! And what ever happened to Elvis the Van Man from Chicago ? Party On HoBo 🎉 😂 !
Great review! I'll be utilizing most of these variations when mine arrives. I snagged the Delta2/Alt charger combo deal for $557.07 on BF pricing using your code.
Thank you!
What type of connector is on the other end of the alligator clips?
Thanks in advance.
Just ordered a second Ecoflow Alternator charger with your discount code because this is so versatile... I'll be able to charge both my Delta 2 and Delta 2 Max at full speed from my solar charged house battery...
The alternative charger comes with a long Cable, i need half of the length. Can i cut the cable to make it more efficient?
What a great idea for a product. We all know how ridiculously slow charging is from 12v with the little cigarette lighter adapter. I like the built-in reverse charging.
Just use inverter
that's a cool product from ecoflow i did not know that it had all those features and now that i have the the ecoflow delta pro looks like with this product i might be able to make my own extra batteries for it thanks for the review.
Awesome review thank you for what you do !
Why would you select this over other DC/DC solutions if you’re just getting started with car camping? Cost? Compatibility? No solar required?
Thank you for covering How this works with a smart alternator, great video
The Mercedes Sprinter in the video has a smart alternator.
Thank you. you had gave me a lot information on the product that I couldn't get from the other UA-camrs.
What an innovative product. Thank you for showcasing it for us Professor!
Keep on keepin on
Man… Ty for explaining this… it was much needed.
I hope BLUETTI comes out with something like this
Had to give you a thumbs up after the beginning😂👊
Been waiting for this review from you. Thank you 🙏 Professor 🧑🏫
I need something like this for my Bluetti
Pecron makes a basic one through solar port.
Victron also makes an inverter dc/ dc
At what point does large power stations stop making sense? 100 amp hour LiFePO4 is less than $250. Use it as a house battery and top off your smaller power station as needed. You can set it up with whatever charge controller you need. I'm using a 175 solar panel to charge mine and it in turn keeps EB3A topped off as well as running 12 volt accessories directly from it. No reason I could not charge it from the alternator as well, but have not needed to at this point.
Excellent video. Very helpful. Thanks!
I am glad you covered this.
👏👏👏Thanks for demystifying this beauty of a beast 💪🔥
It would be great if you could do a similar review on the Bluetti Charger 1 when time allows. (No vehicle/alternator variant, please). How low can the lifepo4 battery voltage drop before the charger shuts off? Thank you, Professor!
I just bought this and need some info on how to connect it to my dual AGM batteries in my truck camper that are charged with roof mounted solar. Any info on how to do that?
Incredible Class Professor. Thank You!
I have a bluetti ac70 and I suppose I have to change the wire that goes into the solar input if i want it to work. The bluetti alternatoe charger is so back order it will take months before I can get one
Thanks for this video. I had been looking at this product but couldn't figure out what it really did
I ended up using a PECRON charger between 100 amp power lithium battery and river pro and then from the battery to the starter battery/alternator I have a Victron DC DC charger.
Thumbs up for the review 👍
I Have an Oupes mega 2. How can I use this to charge it? If there is a way, you would know. Can I use Anderson connectors?
Thank You for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth.... Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste
🙏🏻 😊 ✌ ☮ ❤ 🕊
When charging ecoflow from 12 volt lifepo4 house batteries how efficient is the charger? I believe the video mentioned "zero" loss when charging house battery from ecoflow unit. What losses are incurred when charging ecoflow unit from house batteries?
I had to get out of my rocker, pause the TV, and get up real close to see.....based on the equipment displays, looks like I saw 11 and 13% losses when powering ecoflow from external power supply. Good review
Do you need the optional adapter to connect the alternator charger to a delta pro 3?
i ended up ordering it and yes, you do need it for anyone who reads this.
Absolutely well explained like all your videos. That you
I think this is great, but wonder if the fast charging will cut the overall life of the unit. I would still get it though.
