- Do you love cheap easy and hassle free terrain that you can make at home?
Me too!! so look no further. In this video I make quick and effective terrain from a water gun/squirt gun. You can use nerf guns, old or broken water pistols or any sort of toy firearm, simply hack it up and paint it. Its literally that easy. Perfect for apocalypse terrain, gaslands terrain, fallout style or grim dark 40k. Ive chosen a desert theme to go with my gorkamorka set but you could make it any old style.

Same thing happens to me with the latex. Sometimes sanding the surface helps. Turned out great though!
Yea I thought the primer was going to be enough to help the paint stick to the surface ...I was very wrong 😂
I use an etch primer when trash bashing. Sticks to the plastic like glue :)
I'll bare that in mind for next time 😅
That`s excellent, nothing better than some rusty, worn down, brackish looking industrial terrain.
The chipping-effect-second try turned out very nicely. I would like to see more terrain of that sort.
Thanks dude, I do love rusty old industrial stuff. I've been working on a few bits of 40k terrain for upcoming episodes so stay tuned 👍🏻😀
Late to the party on this one, but for those plastic water guns and items of similar make, one thing to remember is that they typically leave the factory with a mold release residue on them, which will repel paint and even primer, and then, yes, they are a bit smooth and the plastic itself is not great for painting. As a general rule, just give them a wash with toothbrush and dishwashing soap, and then rough up long, smooth sections with a fine grit sandpaper. You shouldn't have problems with primer after that, but if you do find a stubborn problem section, sand again, over whatever primer is still there, to rough both the primer and the surface. Do that a couple times and you'll never have a problem with it again. Also... let the primer really dry. Like... spray, then leave it until the next day.
Thanks dude, I don't expect I'll be doing anymore of them, but if I do, I'll remember to wash and sand them 👍🏻🙂
I've been getting into SW Legion recently so this is super interesting and timely for me. I'm looking forward to seeing more stuff like this!
As others have said, some light sanding with 200 or 240 grit paper on those big smooth plastic bits will help the primer really stick and also letting it fully cure--I know that the stuff I use has a 72-hour recommended cure time on plastics. Another thing I've seen done is to give the whole piece a spray with matte varnish before applying the masking fluid--the varnish will lock in the paint below it and make it harder. I tend to spray all my terrain with it after I'm done just to make it harder wearing anyway.
Damn it Tom where were you like a week ago? 😅 In future I'll most likely seal it in with some hardcoat matte varnish before applying the masking fluid. But it's definitely worth mentioning that I've put a hard coat matte varnish on the finished product since then just to prevent any chipping
You can use hairspray for the same effect you use the masking fluid, its spray on so a bit less control exactly where it goes but a cheaper alternative or if you are allergic to latex.
Good comment Thomas. I know of a salt method aswell but I've yet to try that.
Top notch, mate. I've seen this done several times, and yours is easily in the highest bracket. Nice work. It inspires me to try this myself. Looking forward to seeing some more industrial and post-apoc terrain from you. Cheers, --Bo
I've got a few things in the works for ya 😬👍🏻
What a great idea! I love the whole repurpose something unexpected into terrain.
Thanks 😀👍🏻 yes I try to reuse and repurpose alot of things. Cheap crafting is good crafting 😅
Watching this today subbed today ordered one of these last night , spooky mine is for a railway fantasy area 👌😎 fred ps how about a dremel with sanding discs or brass wire wheels to rough the surface just a thought 🤔 ps glad you put leds in the tower ….cool
Cheers dude. Yea that would have been a great idea, but I thought the undercoat spray primer would have been enough to stick to the surface 😅 I guess not though. Never mind, was able to fix it in the end. But thought it useful to share my failure.
Thanks for the sub 🙂👍🏻
My world eaters kill team would be proud to kill their enemies on this piece in the name of Khorne 😈👍👍 great build mate.
World eaters are just happy killing anything anywhere 😅 thanks mate 👍🏻
@@irongryphon also very True 😅.
