    This is an absolutely excellent build!
    For anyone feeling a result like this might be out of reach, you can do this as well!
    It might be a decent bit harder to do, but if you haven't got a hotwire or access to thicker foam to slice on the table you could do all of this with dollar store foamcore. Use 2 layers stacked for every 1cm thick piece, and 1 layer for the 5mm pieces; your lengths and widths would be the same and can still be easily cut by knife. Hell, if you don't want to buy the paper you can even do the pillars the same way with corrugated cardboard boxes if you've the patience to separate the paper and sand it down a touch.

    • @irongryphon
      @irongryphon  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks dude, and yes to everything you just said 👍🏻🙂and if I may add... I always try to maximize the look with minimum effort/skill. This build is easily achievable by all, even if you feel your skill level isn't the best it could be. And who cares if you're not a good crafter, build something anyway, learn, get better and do it because you enjoy it 👍🏻

    thanks for including the 'fiddly little bits' - having to carefully cut over and over to get the exact match needed. Then "I changed my mind again..." Love how you share the creative process. As a Canadian I am also constantly bouncing between imperial and metric...Am envious of the grey foam ours is pink... (just lazy one coat of paint/mod podge is enough but I am impatient to 'see what it will look like' as soon as I start assembling pieces and the Pepto Bismol colour is kind off putting... thanks for another great build - cool but simple! The finishing touches with the moss and washes are genius - light touch and the photography to shop it all in the best light. Great video again!

    • @irongryphon
      @irongryphon  3 роки тому +1

      I think the pink foam is technically better for crafting purposes, it had a finer cell structure, which gives it a better texture. But the grey stuff is perfectly useable for most projects. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching 👍🏻🙂

      Great idea-can also use foam remnants and get rid of some of those 50,000 pieces we all have laying around. As long as they’re packed in so they don’t shift around.
      It seems like, if you make any number of the columns, using foil as a stuffer could get really pricey really fast.

    Nifty project. I would go with wedding cake decorations that come in the shape of classical columns to save some effort.

    Super cool build and probably the right call going with a decreased size.
    I like the different levels, creating more dephts and the fact, that its got a roof - for sniper-ambush-possibility.
    And - finally some moss-action again... felt kinda deprived, to be honest :- )

    • @irongryphon
      @irongryphon  3 роки тому

      Thanks dude 👍🏻😀 working in layers of foam can often be the best way to get some nice depth. You have to disguise the layer lines with brickwork if possible but that wasn't an issue here . And I love doing abandoned or overgrown terrain that's long been forgotten, Moss is essential 😅👍🏻

  • @tommcclintock5019
    @tommcclintock5019 3 роки тому +3

    This turned out fantastic! Always excited to see new builds.
    I'm also in the "wing it" camp of building stuff. I might have an idea of what I want to end up with generally but I like taking a look at something--some foam bricks, some coffee stir sticks, a few bits out of the bits box--and letting that creative impulse take over and guide me based on "oh this should be cool" rather than meticulously planning out a build.

    • @irongryphon
      @irongryphon  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, I find a big factor for influencing my build can be "practicality". I generally always consider the fact that it needs to be stored somewhere, needs to be playable and not too cluttered, plenty of space for minis, and durable enough to withstand people touching it. Trying to balance all that, and then still make it cheap, easy to build and aesthetically pleasing can be difficult.

      @@irongryphon Lol. That’s true, but you seem to mix it up with projects that could be used for Fantasy and Medieval Historical, which is something most people are afraid to try. It’s relatively easy to pile a bunch of cardstock and bits and make a post-apoc hut, barrier or even a processing plant. But versatile projects that could be used for both Fantasy and Medieval, explained in such a clear and concise way like you do, are rare gems these days. That Greco-Romanesque piece is a truly exceptional project you don’t see anywhere else. And so useful too.

    Anybody knkw where to get templates for table top crafting?

    • @irongryphon
      @irongryphon  3 роки тому +1

      There's generally not many templates for these things, because most people (such as myself) make them up on the fly. Though I know that occasionally some crafter's have print-outs available in the descriptions of their videos 👍🏻🙂
      Otherwise just make it up like I do

    I thought the folk here (in Canada) were the only ones that mixed metric and imperial. I don't know if I'm happy or bummed out to find out there's others 🤣😁

      @irongryphon  3 роки тому

      Oh it's very common to do that here too, I think it's a mixture of being in Europe (who use mostly metric) but also being a super old/traditional country who doesn't like change (for the imperial) 😅 either is fine for me

    This is an amazing build! I'd love to do something similar for a display I'm making. I love the columbs. A question for you though- what kind of filler are you using when you are spreading the white paste on to add debris? I didn't see anything in your description that matched and I was curious since I'm new to this and that stuff looks perfect for several things I want to make. Thanks!

    • @irongryphon
      @irongryphon  3 роки тому +1

      It's just basic joint compound. The kind of thing that you'd use to fill cracks in interior walls. It's plaster based, you could probably even tint it with paint to add some colour to it. And I used the cheapest kind I could find in my local DIY store, nothing fancy 👍🏻😀 hope that helps. Thanks for watching and best of luck with your project

      @@irongryphon Thank you so much for replying so swiftly! That helps a lot. The project is going well already. I've been practicing on some rune stones using some scrap foam. They're based on one of your other videos and I'm having a lot of fun just winging it!

    why not use pringle tubes ?

    I love this channel but the camera angle gives me vertigo. It's like I am leaning way, way too far over the build and am upside down. Please consider using more than one angle.

      @drewwendell 3 роки тому +1

      @@irongryphon no worries, just figured if it was an easy problem to solve, it was worth mentioning. Assuming you have some video editing software, try just flipping the image upside down. That would create the perspective of looking down at your work from across the table. Then again, if your current format works for the vast majority, there's no reason to change it on account of one dude.

      I'm not really sure what people prefer, do they want to view the project from my side of the desk? Or looking at it from the other side of the desk? Or from the side? I may have to do a poll 😅

    What's the purpose of doing all the details just to cover it up. Why not add details only where they show up and nowhere else.
